Hmmm…. it looks brown in the flesh (at least pretty sure it is) – i think it’s my poor abused camera on its last legs making it look yellow…. Could I suppose be desert cammo….?
Is it brown? It looks like weathered yellow to me, in some shots, but then I realise that colours from a camera are never 100% compatible to colours in the flesh.

Will do Bruce but will prob be a few days before i can take them

from this excellent site: http://hedgehoghollow.com/buzz/halifax/trenton1.html
If only I can find a shot of the front.
Sadly not Peter – the surface is very grubby – not easy to make any numbers out at all. it needs a good blasting.
Elliot
are there any stamps or id numbers letters on it?
Good point webpilot – come to think of it, if it were from the underside it wouldn’t be brown. More likely to be an upper surface?
The attached image came from: http://www.airspacemag.com/asm/mag/supp/JJ01/Halifax.html
Looks very Bristol-ish to me. Beaufighter? Looks like the back of the Beau carb intake fairing.
Whitleys had stainless steel bolts in the mainwheel so not necessarily associated with sea water.
If it was issued to Shorts could it be a beaching gear wheel? Stainless and bronze are heavy metals to attach to an aircraft but quite resistant to seawater.
Could be Spitfire – what is the full part number?
Bruce
Hi bruce
From memory it was 30908 – there were several parts with this number and what I assume were sub assembly numbers. Mostly steel ?possibly stainless steel parts – they came from a dump in wales.
Cheers
Sorry Bruce
Never got a chance to take one but it’s just your typical ‘large’ fighter i.e. typhoon style tailwheel. Seeing as most of these tailwheels often look the same, I am not sure how helpful it will be but will bow to your experience.
I’ll try and get a pic soon.
I was hoping someone out there with a list would know…
Cheers
bump :p
I agree Dave – it is a stunning achievement. There is something very sinister about 109s isn’t there…
Cheers
That is one beautiful aircraft. I wonder how much of it is original….?
NOT trying to kick of a replica vs real debate!!
Just curious.
Messerschmitt 109E-3 wk.nr.1342 , possibly Yellow 8 of 6./JG51
Crashed onto the beach near Cape Blanc Nez , France on 29.07.40 after combat near Dover with F/L Johnny Webster of 41 Sqn. Pilot Fw.Eduard Hemmerling , 3 victories , is classed as MIA … with no known grave .
The wreck remains , consisting of one and a half wings , mainspar, undercarriage legs and some other small parts were recovered in 1988, after being uncovered by a severe storm. 1342 was found stamped on an undercariage leg.
Remanufactured by Craig Charlestone, originally for the AFC, Wanaka, but meant to be going to FHC Seattle.Dave
That is quite a collection Daz!
Thanks a lot for the guidance guys – I will try to pick a few of those up – maybe i’ll see them at shoreham 😀
Have a good weekend all & cheers for the help.
I think the toad who stole hashdefs lanc prop should be on the list
Either way, they are a very low form of life indeed. Have you contacted Ken Ellis? In the past FP has been very sympathetic towards groups who have been the victim of theft.
They could even be chavs….
Maybe Steve meant “Pikey” then, or whatever your local phrase for thieving scavengers that live in caravans is 🙂
Sounds like Pikeys to me – the nasty scrotes will have anything away.
