That bit isn’t a part number i’m afraid Peter, it’s part of the inspectors stamp so won’t help ID the part. How about a pic?
Hi Peter
Armstrong Whitworth did build Lancaster bombers so it is likely it is from one of these
Thanks guys – that’s very decent of you to offer to help. It could be a good fourm event! The delivery would be in the Tilbury area. Bruce – the wings are not unmanageable but they are rather fragile in places. If we can get enough bodies at either end I think we will manage safely – we would need a minimum of four people.
I’ll have a look at some dates…
Thanks again
Yes, as Cees says – R3 is Lanc
Lovely looking tailplane – that is a great piece of work, and the air scoop – very nice work indeed.
Hopefully someone will ID it but if not, go over it with an abrasive pad or get it blasted and you should find a part number. This will usually be enough to ID the aircraft.
Well, good luck QP. These things often come up on ebay so if I were you I would hold out for a complete one.
Yes, it’s a box for the ‘pipsqueak’ IFF device, but unfortunately empty
What type aircraft is it Bob? Mk4 is correct for late 30’s / early 40’s. I have a few spare bits.
That’s very interesting – thanks for posting. Looking forward to read part 3.
Stirling
Hi Hawker1966 – SHT stands for sheet – it’s related to the drawing for this item
I quite agree David – stuningly quick and good work. As the Whitley is being rebuilt using original material it presents very different problems.
Elliott,
The rate that Cees and friend are working through their ww2 bombers, I wouldn’t be surprised that they will have a Whitley and Stirling finished before we do! LOL
Nice one Cees – it looks awersome. If only you could build a bit more… 😀
They’re getting closer to getting an ID. There will be a number of similar panels on the Dornier – a couple should yield readable numbers.
