Having bought many items off Evil Bay I would have to say that I have seen and bought lots of non authentic items that were advertised. Especially sold as “Spitfire”. However in this case the seller has been quite accurate in describing this item but I would suspect that it may be a reproduction of a high value item and therefore Not fit/suitable for flight or it’s intended use, so apart from not being able to view I cannot find any fault with the seller in this case.

Lovely two yokes there, do you have any photos of the Oxford yokes too?

I would have to dig them out of the shed and assemble them. They are very crispy….. But if you still want a pic I can do this for you.

There’s a book on the market; TSR2 Britain’s Lost Bomber by Damien Burke. it has a lot of interesting info on the aircraft.

Two complete grips/columns that I have collected, Bristol beaufort and Piston Provost, The Bristol one has a really nice solid fell to it. I also have a few Oxford columns/Yokes for my Oxford project.

Hi Ian,

I have one of those as well but Type 436, Very similar in shape etc. It was attached to the accessory gearbox of an early Bristol Pegasus engine and does not appear to have an electric motor but only a manual crank handle drive. Could be ex Sunderland or Vincent or even Baffin.
Do you have any more pictures of the Manual Drive as mine is missing this piece.

Airspeed Oxford Parts

I’m after any Mk1 or 2 Airspeed Oxford parts of the following to aid in an airworthy project NZ2155 and just to save the stuff from the scrapper:

Ailerons(Port or Stbd)
Cockpit canopy
Any wing components, Tail or Main plane
Turret or parts thereof (Anson had the same unit)
Navigator’s/Radio operators seat
Any engine mount aft covers esp the top access cover just aft of the engine
cowls

Also after Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah MK9 or 10 engine parts / ancillaries. Can swap Mk2 Harvard parts or P40 Kittyhawk parts in exchange, or buy outright.

Cheers

Stuart Atkinson.

I think if you had another spare genuine blind flying panel you could just about swap for the whole set of six instruments! Most are reasonably easy to get on evilbay and from some flypast members, however the Turn/Slip and the Altimeter command fairly high prices. You might need the spacers that distance some instruments so they end up flush with the front of the panel as well.

Can anyone tell me the difference between an Airspeed Oxford yoke and a de Havilland Mosquito yoke? They appear identical but I seem to remember someone saying that the brake levers are positioned differently?
Also does this similarity also apply to both aircraft yoke columns? Thanks

Hi Fly.Buy

From what I can tell the pilots yokes are both the same for the Bomber version of the Mosquito and the Oxford, However on the Oxford there is of course a second yoke for the second pilot and that one has the brake lever the opposite way around, these yokes hate moisture and quickly turn to crispy white powder
so I’m after any that I can find!:)

There was a lot of instruments I recognised in the trays, I have a lot of them myself, the concentration of Radium would have been massive in the storerooms and as a result the authorites would have had no choice but to clean it up. Smashing them into the storage containers wasn’t the smartest move however as that would have spead more contamination. I guess the value of the gauges will go up now!

The owner is a very very rich, and as history has told us these people get what they want when they want, and can ensure that it will happen as they wish!

Hi Rkamm,

There are carbs and manafolds out there, the best source is evil bay especially the Aussie website. How did you obtain your Cheetah in the first place, perhaps there is more parts from that source? Your doing a great job of restoring it.

Hi tony the side plate is around 6mm thick I will get exact dimensions later for you. Mr mclittle what would you be doing with the badly seized mk9? parts????????? as you have some parts there that I havent managed to find for mine yet no matter how hard I look and pester people.

I’m going to use it as a trade item later on, However I need all the Valve Gear/Push Rods and any part that is compatible with the MK10, and swap the non airworthy parts on to it. Came very bare with no parts or ancillaries
What did you still need in addition to the starter/front nut?

Unknown Panel

Can anyone ID this instrument panel for me, When purchased off Ebay it was missing the ASI, Altimeter, DG and the AH so they may be the incorrect units but they have done a great job of filling the holes.
