Having looked at this thread, is the Mustang the only ‘warbird’ to have had a civilian colour scheme ? I think not ! Rolls Royce Spitfires come to mind, there must be lots of others too, one very colourfull ‘warbird’ (I rather hope the Hunter can be classed as a warbird) came to mind …. see below !
Keith.

Such knowledgeable people you are ! thank you all for this, another photo showing the small explosive charge with cutter attached.
Keith.

MerlinPete. Yes that was the description I was given ?? I realy thought that would be less a commonly known part ??? But I underestimated the wealth of knowledge you have !
Interested in how it operated, it looks to be spring loaded, presumably with remote operation from the cockpit ?
Keith.
shed man. Not a problem, always nice to be able to help in some small way. I will soon take you up on your offer of a visit to see whats going on now !
Thanks … Keith.
The last batch of Ray’s (shed man) photos of the construction of the Whirlwind project as is at the museum. I think Ray is going to start a new thread for the phase two part of the project, but I am sure he will still pop in here to answer any questions on the post within this thread.
Keith.

As they have not set the world on fire just yet ! lets wait a bit to guage reaction ? maybe these things always take time ….. evolution not revolution !
Thanks Keith.
As shed man told us above I have some more of his photos to post, showing even more of the construction of the Whirlwind nose section ….
Keith.

Larry66. I am not realy the person to answer that question, that is shed man, who built the project, but he did mention that in an email ! it is an ‘ammo drum’ made from a plastic bucket ? What imagination ????
Keith.
Larry66. Thank you for that comment, I truly believe that photos of history have more impact than the written word ? But will possibly be shot down on that ? Hey Ho !
Keith.
richellis. Oh thank you for that, I was there, also on a flying visit, a few months ago, but having seen more of other peoples visits posted on various forum I gather that I missed quite a few of the exhibits, but that happens ! must go back again soon !
Thank you.
Keith.
Well the Whirlwind project is moving on, shed man has mailed me these photos of the build, and ingenuity, put into this project as it is so far, I will post the photos and I am sure he will come back to answer any questions regarding the very imaginable products used ! enjoy.
Keith.

richellis. This is in Fenland & West Norfolk Aviation Museum at Wisbech. Cambs.
Is there one at Flixton also ???
Keith.
Breaking away from the Whirlwind for a moment, there is also this very interesting early Boeing 747 cockpit simulator …

And the FE’s panel ….
Rocketeer. Oh wow, thank you for you help with this, I am sure Ray (shed man) would like to see a photo, should you be able to post one, he is struggling with internet connections, but is at least trying !
Thank You !
Keith.
shed man. You have got me there ! I don’t even know what a Sutton Harness is ??? apart from, I assume, it keeps the crew in their seats ???
But I am sure there will be someone on this very knowledgeable forum who will know, sometimes these things take time, it always astounds me how often a long forgotten thread suddenly pops its head back to the top of the page !!!
What I do have are some photos from a US website, with no name to credit to ? of a whirlwind cockpit interior ……
Keith.
