kev35.Thank you for that, both yourself and John Aeroclub have been (and are) stalwarts within this thread ! I must say that the custodion of these files has become so much more interested as things have moved on, so much so that I think he may be one of the ‘guest’ viewers ???
I am moving on from ‘amazed’ to ‘overwhelmed’ at the responce’s.
I have recently recieved a PM from a prominent Aus member regarding the period in Sumatra / Java / Borneo ?? Where, of course, there was a large Australian input !
Wow, over here, overwhelmed, and over to you !
Keith.
BSG-75.Yes, as you may have gathered from my comments, I too am ‘gob smacked’ (lovely phrase) by what I thought would be a very small thread ! Thank you.
kev35.I rather hope you are ready for this ‘incoming’ !!! below there are 13 pages taken from the logbook, scanning a period from 08 12 41 untill 11 12 42 ….. What a year this must have been for those involved !!! I have numbered the pages should we need to refer back … happy reading !

kev35.Will sort out and post the pages, may take some time, maybe post later this evening.
One thing I forgot to say in my previous post is that following some confused reading etc as above I think I am also bordering on ….
“Terminally Bewilldered”
Anark.Quite possible ?? I am still amazed at the detail you good people seem to be able to draw from from the backgrounds of these photo’s.
John Aeroclub. You are realy so clever at this detail, as my comment above, must admit I thought Tiger Moth on first viewing !
kev35.Yes have your PM, thank you again for all of your efforts, I too have searched online for info re the Singapore / Sumatra / Java / Borneo situation, there appears to be no photo’s from this era ! in the collection, I also find a complete mix of 34sqdn, 84sqdn and 211sqdn !!! and some very mixed stories ! very rapid movements from one place to another !
The only thing I have is the scanned logbook, maybe I should post the relevent pages re this era, should this be of interest to all.
Thank You All.
Keith.
Good afternoon Knowledgeable people, Lauriebe, once again thank you for your inputs, lots of info still coming in, ever little helps.
Today I have re-read this thread, and using my new found, hi res scanning feature, hopefully can help with some questions from earlier :-
PHOTO 12. There was a lot of interest as to whats in the hangar behind the Hendon, well this may help a very little ?
PHOTO 43.Once again a lot of discussion as to who ‘owned’ the Beverly’s, well the answer, or part thereof, is on the fin ?
PHOTO 40.The Hastings is TG516, the Devon serial is too blurred to read even at 2400 dpi !
PHOTO 54.The first Piston Provost is ?F 693, maybe someone can cross refer this to a list ? could be wrong ?????
PHOTO 38.The Vampire with nose code ‘F’ is XJ774.
PHOTO 42.The Army Skeeter is XN338 (could be XN330).
Thanks for that Lauriebe, I have just found an entry in ASN ….

Would this aircraft have been abandoned on the beach ?
Would it have been stripped of useful parts ? If so how were these returned. helicopter ?
Keith.
Thanks for that kev35, I think a trip to Kew will be coming up in the near future !
For tonight a little story, over two pages of one album, there is a pictorial story of a trip, presumably from Singapore, showing the means of transport used to reach North Borneo to see these results ….

Kev35, Now you have amazed me even more, from what I understand, even within the family, they are not sure what the ‘M’ within G.A.M.Gallop stands for ! I will gather the information from your supurb post, and hopefully email it to my doner. I find this so nice that you can answer a question that seems to been a mystery !
For that Thank You very much.
Keith.
kev35, Thanks ! Wow that took some finding I imagine ! Took me some time to find it after following your link ! I agree with you this person certainly seemed to have a very long and varied career, or would this be normal for a serving officer at this time ? The photo albums I have are so amazing, lots of photo’s of the areas visited, most of which would not be aviation related, but are so incredable to see ! including things ‘the boys’ did to amuse themselves ? Look forward to your further inputs to this. Thank you.
Keith
Lyffe, Thats brilliant, I imagine that took some finding, so much info starting with a very small log book entry !
Now for a challenge ! The career details of the person who’s photos we are all enjoying are not very well recorded, or difficult to find, both in the press and ‘online’.
He is Flt.Lt. G.A.Gallop D.F.C. (later Sqdn.Ldr) Service No 50517.
The family, and myself, would be pleased to recieve any information, stories, etc. that any of you may have about his career.
To put another face to the name, he is second from the left, top row, on the photo below, which is No.2 JUNIOR SPECIALIST COURSE. R.A.F. Technical College – Henlow. May 1949 – Dec 1950.
