I am in agreement with you there. I’d love to see at least one flying in their original spanaf colours. I think it would make a pleasant and welcome change.
That said, the owner(s) are obviously entitled to paint them exactly as they desire.

Speaking of which, great that Howard Cook is back in the cockpit after his serious Tiger Moth accident. ๐Ÿ™‚

He has been for quite some considerable time now.
Not sure if he has actually performed in public since though, if that is what you meant?

Bit pedantic of you but presumably it is within the bounds of reason that at some point they will be in some sort of formation for their onward flight. Albeit they may be out of the visual circuit I am sure someone will see them in “formation” at some point. You did not state categorically at what point they might be in formation one would have to assume you meant immediately after take off however you neglected to mention that part. Perhaps being more precise in your request for information would make answering less of a minefield.

    ??????

I read this the same way as Bomberboy, but updated CWH Lancaster Tour Schedule says “Both Lancasters will land at RAF Waddington and after a short visit, will depart with the Avro Vulcan and two Hawks for a formation flight.” (Source: http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx)

Thank you for the pointer as requested.

    Here :- http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafwaddington/newsweather/index.cfm?storyid=11B3DBF1-5056-A318-A802C5A20D39A135

    I already did that thanks.
Please tell me where it states that the aircraft will fly in formation as posted by Alan?
All I read is “ยท 1340h โ€“ The Lancasters will take off one after the other followed by the Vulcan. The aircraft will then immediately leave the visual circuit as they transit to their next destination.”
Now, I’ve read this over and over and unless I’ve missed it somehow, this does not state that they will fly in formation.

WOW… The Lancasters and Vulcan in formation,

    Where does it say that?

The family can now have proper closure and S/Sgt Atkinson can now lie in peace, knowing that he has finally been ‘found’.

It does now realise a question as well.
Do I take it this poor chap was listed as ‘missing’ in one of the cemeteries and now that he has been ‘found’ I take it that any references to him missing at the cemeteries would have to be rectified /removed?

Interesting piece here from OC BBMF about Friday’s drama.

With 3 minutes to go I stood in the rain, 500 other people sheltering from the rain in the Hangar or under the tents, looking out to the North to see if I could see her. To the south the sky was a little brighter, but to the north, where VR A was coming from, it was ominously black. Then there was a shout from Rog Nichols, one of our Lanc Pilots, and there she was, on finals, wheels down, at the end of an epic journey!

Removing my rose tinted glasses for a while, this to me seems a little worrying.
I wonder, that with the sizeable event that had been organised at BBMF’s hangar, just how much pressure was on the Canadians to take such a risk of flying their precious VFR aircraft, in absolutely appalling vis and conditions, to complete the journey, rather than make a diversionary landing elsewhere which at the time I’m sure would normally have been considered appropriate?
The BBMF / Red Arrows after all, rather than risk their aircraft in these conditions decided not to fly and so it seems that it would actually have been the appropriate decision.
    What’s others views?

    from OC BBMF
I can’t tell you how pleased I was to see her, along with 500 people at the Flight, and thousands outside the fence.
The rest of the afternoon was fabulous, welcoming the boys and then, most importantly, honouring more than 100 veterans who had come as our guests of honour.

The first line augments & indicates to me ‘the pressure’ of expectation that existed.
Also there were a lot less people there than I was expecting, maybe a thousand or so, possibly creeping towards two thousand, but nowhere near as many as I thought would be.
Just how many others might have been put off going, what with the weather, “stay away” and road closure / parking restriction warnings etc?

Prior to moving to the BBMF area, for the actual landing I was in a parking area next to the main base camp just over halfway down the runway right next to the taxiway and there were no more that 60 or 70 cars there, in a car park that holds some 1100 vehicles. I expected hundreds at least.
I was also expecting traffic problems everywhere, but the only traffic came about when everyone wanted to leave the BBMF area at the same time and could only exit through Coningsby village.
Why did they have to close Dogdyke Road?

    from OC BBMF
But this is just the start. Now, the adventure begins…..

Indeed let it……….but not by taking unnecessary risks, keep it safe.

You can feel the passion in that very informative post, reflecting our own.

And is the very reason that perhaps a little step back for other reflections to happen and made me reflect about the depth of the occasion too.
Are they still going to fly passengers?

I hope to get up close and have good look at this lovely machine at a couple of venues and I hope everyone else enjoys her stay. :applause:

‘202 seems to do a lot of flying!

It flew over my house this afternoon and I saw a spitfire fly in the sort of opposite direction at about 10am this morning.

The CWHM have said that the Lancaster will today be flying from Keflavik to Reykjavik (a very short hop)

That’s exactly what my old mans outfit used to do during the war when they went off ops and the reverse journey when they went back on ops.
Keflavik was effectively split into two. The British half was called Geck and the yanks half was called Meeks Field.

    2408.3 KM or thereabouts.

So on that basis, 5 hrs & 20 mins for c1500 miles cruising at say 170 mph in a lanc? Hmm somehow I don’t think that is correct!
I would make it more like 8.5 hours allowing for a bit of a tailwind as well.
At a burn rate of say 150gph, they’d probably burn about 1250-1300 imp galls for the journey.
