Flight time to Goose is estimated at 5hr 20 mins, sunset is at 2050 local so she needs to be airborne in the next half hour. Beautiful sunny day here at Goose Bay, hope she makes it.
What is the actual distance and what is their cruising groundspeed?
Does anyone know if they have the full complement of tanks for 2154imp gallons fuel capacity?
I’ve spent 3 hours with this toilet coverage on and I’ve had enough.
I suspect with two hours out of their flying day gone already, that they might possibly abort today? 🙁
from the CWH “Slight delay in departure. Because of full fuel on board, we elected to tow the Lancaster onto the runway for start up to save the brakes. However flooded number 2 engine on start up. Hopefully airborne within the hour”.
I don’t understand this?
The single view we were treated to of the lanc showed all four engines running????
That was about 50 minutes ago.
What was a let-down, and why?
The live news coverage.
Nothing more than rubbish.
Totally disjointed with loads of ads
We got to see the back end of the B-25 that was climbing out after it had taken off, but from a great distance and was described as the Lancaster.
There was one short long distance head on heat haze view of the lanc with engines running, about 20 or so mins later after it should have taken off.
Even the ceremony before was sketchy with a large chunk of the proceedings being shown with only a load of peoples backs in the cameras view obscuring the speakers at the podium.
Plenty on new gutters being promoted and news about some lifting bridge being closed and loads of holiday day sports fixtures.
They kept describing the BBMF as the battle of Britain memorial fund and that it is operated by the raf museum?
This is surely the way ahead. Griffon reliability :o
Hmmmmmm…………NICE!
I likey :love-struck:
True enough. The Hurricane had an engine issue and crash landed, AB910 whacked a Harvard, and the Spit hit the stumps in the 1960’s.
They also had a hurricane ground loop at Duxford which required a new prop at least and other related repair works.
They also had two other ‘incidents’ in the Lanc that were fortunately averted.
One was at North Weald where it seemed to be headed straight for Sally B that was parked, and a second at Mildenhall where the undercarriage had to be inspected prior to any further flying following a very heavy side load as she skewed off the runway and onto the grass. It sat where it stopped for some time.
Not too long ago she also suffered an engine failure abroad, but as she is funded by the taxpayer along with the whole taxpayer funded logistics organisation behind it, the engine problem was solved fairly quickly, but I don’t remember any taxpayer funded ‘comments’ being sounded at any of these incurred costs?
I consider we are fortunate that we have these aircraft funded in such a way, but I feel it’s a shame that the RNHF are not able to secure the same funding means as the RAF BBMF and the sizeable team they have employed in it, which seems a little unfair to me?
With this in mind, it also then seems to me that it’s then ok to ‘question’ the RNHF, but not the sacrosanct BBMF, which is also unfair.
I’m very glad that the pilot managed to get down safely with what appears to be a deteriorating situation. Another recent example of good airmanship.
Hopefully the aircraft will be repaired as soon as they can.
All credit to RNHF for sticking with it.
I agree.
Its only got 14 cylinders.
Looks like 18cyls to me.
Even the ad states it is an 18 cyl engine.
Is he surrendering? 😀
It makes a change for him to actually be looking!
There have been photos of him posted before taken from aircraft taxying past where he’s not looking at them 😀
It was a cracking day and the Grace Spit gave a really neat display.
They have achieved something really neat here and have helped others with their requests too
East Kirkby have recently announced on Facebook that their ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity is in fact a ‘twice in a lifetime’ opportunity, and there will be a repeat performance of the three Lancasters event on September 7th.
I wonder who will be next to jump on the proverbial and advertise the next ‘once in a lifetime experience/opportunity’.
Could you point us in the direction this information is coming from. Thanks.
Ooh err! Does this mean that somebody or bodies may have jumped the gun?
I think there is something similar to this on some B-24’s
Brian
The piaggio had been on static at Waddington last weekend.
It seems to have got lost on one of its test flights today, and ended up in Scotland!
Hmmmmm, so in amongst all the spit activity around my house today, I swore I heard a griffon…..headed north maybe????
There’s an in depth article on the progress on the Blenheim in the new edition of Flypast.
And very good it is too.
