Going back, the late Pete Treadaway and his sons Paul and Peter, also the late John Littleton and his sons Paul and David

Of course and Paul is now with TFC and Paul & David are both still involved at Duxford too.
There’s also Neville & Matt Howell, although I haven’t seen Matt for a year now.

Anyone know whether the Blenheim might have been over Rugely today?
    Adrian

No, she was involved in some music video filming today.
You would very likely have had a good chance to see Sally B on her journey to and from the Blackpool Airshow though.

As a matter of interest, how many father and son teams work in the vintage aircraft world? Limit the replies to Duxford, if you want to stay on the topic of Duxford Diary.

Steve & Lee Kingman, John Romain and his sons, Clive Denney and his boys Glen & Andrew.
Amazingly, the Steve’s seem to be way out in front with this, with the ‘John’s’ currently in second place.
Why limit it to father and sons though, as you could also apply the thread to the women as well?
How about Carolyn and Richard Grace, and some past masters could also apply with Ray & Mark Hanna, the late ‘Hoof’ and his two sons Lee & Ian Proudfoot and the late John Larcombe & his daughter Jane, by now I think is Mrs Gauld-Galliers (good luck to her and Rob).

    I’m sure there are more.

I saw B-17 ‘Sally B’ fly over Braintree twice this afternoon, on her way and back from the show at Damyns Hall near Upminster.

    Yeah I saw her too!!!!
She was east of the town heading south at about 3.15pm and then later to the west of the town heading north at about 3.45pm. 😀

Duxford Thursday 6th August:Also being worked on was the DAS Trident, already looking fresher after some new white paint:
    https://farm1.staticflickr.com/522/19728032344_44a9594709_b.jpg

I remember helping paint that one 25 years ago including the BEA logos, tail registration lettering and black stripe. I masked the big curve at the front ‘freehand’, which I seem to think at the time went rather well and was therefore quite pleased with myself. That don’t happen very often!
I also made the tricky engine nacelle blanks out of really good wood. too big and they would not fit in the hole, too small and as the intake goes further back in the nacelle, it gets bigger again and there was not much room for margin between the two. I was also quite pleased with myself on those too.

B.29 still parked at eastern end of apron and nicely positioned for photographs particularly afternoon onwards when sun has moved round.
    Duxman

I believe it will be moving to a slightly different location during the first half of next week.

The supply is still out there, but it won’t last forever.

You’re right there Mike and I will hazard at a guess that the air racers in the states, ‘use up’ a disproportionate number of engines.
I have seen some rows of a number of engines in the states too.

Great contributions, as always. A special thanks to Mauld, the quality of your videos continues to improve and stitching together an individual aircraft flight, from taxi out to taxi in, with multiple take off and landing shots, gets a big thumbs up from me.

They are good, but there must be some help given to him too. You cannot video from two different places….at the same time!
Keep up the good work though Mauld, there’s never enough decent video.

On Wednesday, Mark Rijkse flew his Yak 11 in from Wycombe Air Park at Booker for a Display Authorisation routine with John Beattie.

I’m sure I saw that practising aeros over Yelling and Toseland in the St Neots vicinity last week

well either I am WELL out of touch on the current value of a P51 restoration project, or 700K for a semi new build section of fuselage, some pattern only tail surfaces, a set of wheels, and a few tupperware boxes of bits is a fishing exercise.
Then again, I guess Platinum Fighters has quite a track record of sales….

That is one pricey data plate?

Is this aircraft a regular on the airshow circuit in mainland Europe?

It was certainly at Biggin Hill in 2007 I think it was?
Had a good look inside it….very plush!

This report is nearly a year old already!
I’m sure this has been on here previously.
Eighth in the east……except the Northants Eighth that is?
I love the fact that having excluded Northants…..unless they can get even more money, the article then goes on to quote about researching some ‘missing Sistine Chapel’ artwork at guess what……a Northants airfield!!!
I guess they are trying to pre-empt their justifying securing the next big handout.

Exactly what is it they are “preserving” anyway?
Title reference is to documenting the artwork, not the actual preservation of it and to be honest, what USAAF artwork is still out there that has not yet been recorded or is known about already….excluding Northants of course for now??
I’m not comfortable about a couple of guys that nobody had heard of, suddenly getting a massive lottery handout, on something that has already been covered by many before them!
What about the USAAF bases in Lincs, Bucks, Salop (Shropshire) to name but a few for example, which although not in the east, are just as important, or are those in reserve for yet further funding applications?
Could somebody actually point me to something really tangible, not some little something here or there, that these people have actually done, particularly justifying the huge sum of money they were given?
There are people on this forum that have done far more visibly, for the preservation of Aviation and the USAAF in particular, without the funds this organisation secured.

Here is a tale to share with you all, related to the 398th Bomb wing from which “Stinker” came.

Why did you change the OP’s original thread reference and now keep calling it the 398th Bomb Wing?
It was the 398th Bomb Group, not wing.
For completeness, the 398th Bomb Group along with the 91st and 381st Bomb Groups, was part of the 1st Bomb Wing of the 1st Air Division of the 8th US Army Air Force/Corps.

In the woods to the south of the runway at Nuthampstead, (you can see them if you look on Google maps, marked at the bottom left as East Wood) there are a small number of Redwood (Sequoia?) trees. Not an indigenous species, these were planted from seeds brought over by Army Air Corps personnel. The plantings were made to commemorate the loss of aircraft/aircrew from the base.
I’ve got a pal who knows the woods there well, from whom the story came.

Never heard of that one before?

Can’t understand where all the stainless exhaust shield and fire wall has gone surely can’t have completely corroded away?

The exhaust sections themselves are made from Inconel, not stainless steel, but there’s no sign of them either.

That armoured glass section from the tail is nice.

I’d agree, but the profile illustration link added in the OP’s initial post, shows a Cheyenne tail, which this glass would not be appropriate to.
