I’ve often wondered, what sort of input would Syd have to the entire rock n’ roll (even greater than now) if he wouldn’t have gone nuts…becouse in those brief moments when he was, not clearminded but wicked in very dynamic and creative way, a true genious…

I know exactly what you mean, But i have come to thinking that with almost all people with such a talent to be called a Genius they burn out too early, R.I.P Syd.

Please do me a favour and take a moment to raise a glass (of Beer of course) to the memory of my brother Neil and of course Bill. It is hard to believe the Firefly accident was 3 years ago. Most importantly, have a great time there. I know that it was Neil’s favourite airshow and he was always excited to attend the show (both as crew and as a spectator). Here’s to good weather and safe flying.

    Thanks.

I will of course raise a glass to Neil and Bill, I always remember them and Hoof Proudfoot on this weekend.
“Hoof’s” was the first accident i sadly witnessed and i hope and pray Neil and Bill are the last 2 Flyer’s i have seen lose there lives.

    Quote RobAnt
For the first time, I don’t think I have a choice.
Because I don’t have an income (I’m currently off work, on incapacity benefit due to health problems) I don’t have any “disposable” income. I can just about afford the petrol to get there to Yeovilton (and Culdrose) this year. I certainly can’t afford the £20 entrance fee (I can’t buy my ticket in advance, I don’t know if I’ll be well enough to go anyway on the day).

So, what am I to do – not go at all? Certainly that’s a possibility, but one of the things that defines me is my love of aircraft, I don’t live close enough to anywhere having a show – Plymouth’s was cancelled.

There are NO concession tickets, and they would only sell concessions to the disabled, usually – not those well enough to go about looking after themselves, but declared “sick”. I have nerve damage, elevated tachycardia and atriel fibrilation – I’m not bedridden – but not well enough to work.

    I’m in a dilemma.

I will go to Yeovilton on the 7th for photocall day, but I don’t think I have a choice, I will have to go to one of the unofficial viewing points.

Which viewing point at Yeovilton on 7th and 8th would be recommended? Obviously somewhere where I can both see the action, and park relatively close by.

I’ve never done, and never wanted to do this in the past – but I feel I’m being left with no choice.[/QUOTE]

I fully understand where your coming from with here, When i was a teenager and young adult i could not afford to pay the Entrance fee for Biggin Hill so i often would spend one if not both days on farm land at the Valley end of the Airport, It was the only Airshow i saw all year and still wanted to be part of it, If had money i went in if i did’nt i stayed outside, I can’t say i’m proud of doing it but between 1982 and 1992 was outside 5 or 6 days in total, Since 1992 i have gone in on both days just because i had a little bit more money to do so. I have not stood outside any show since then, Although i left Biggin Hill early on the Sunday just so i could hear MH434 in the Valley and remind myself of Ray Hanna’s display’s there.
I in general prefer to be inside at any Airshow because there is more to see and i feel a lot safer inside, Having sadly seen four accidents in my time its a constant worry when you see people where they are not ment to be as if something goes wrong its more than the crew of the unfortunate Aircraft whose lives are at risk, Thats my main fear to be honest. I Understand there is a financial risk for Airshows too, This i don’t really see a answer to this situation. Its fair to say a lot of people ouside are not Freeloaders and do contribute money either by going in or through buying Programmes etc( I have seen in past years these sold outside Biggin, you won’t ever get money from true Freeloaders though.

I guess what i am saying is If you have no choice but to be outside the Fence, Then be in a safe place.

’bout time Legends allowed things like the F-86A Sabre to display too – the Sabre is a “legend” in every sense of the word, so even though I can now hear the luddites start to tutt (or worse) I can’t understand why the remit can’t be windened a bit to include classic jets like the Sabre and Meteor.

    Andy

I have to disagree, Whilst the F-86A and Meteor are “Legends” in there own right, The theme of “Flying Legends” is Piston powerer Aircraft through the ages.
I can not think of Another show of its size purely for Piston Engined Aircraft and thats part of what makes it special, Personally i would love to see another Totally Jet based show to allow for a “Celebration” of the Jet age, It could start with the Jets such as the Me262 new builds, Meteor, F-86 and move on to Hunter’s and right up to the Eurofighter Typhoon, Trouble with that is in the UK we have a huge gap in our History flying wise with Currently no Lightnings, Buccaneer’s,F-4’s etc allowed to fly here.

I think “Legends” aint Broke so don’t fix it is the best policy.
As to the Aerostars they are a good team and its always nice to see them fly, I was suprised to see them on the lineup for Legend’s but remember in the past acts like the Utterly Butterlies have been booked they represented the Barn-Storming Day’s and i think the Aerostars represent what Piston type’s can be capable of and follow a long line of “Classic” Yak and former Soviet Piston powered Aircraft.

Cracking little camera the 2800Z. Has its drawbacks, as Duxfordhawk says, but when I bouight the S7000 a couple of years back I decided to hang on to the 2800Z ‘cos of its convenience and size. As I write I’ve lent it to number one son (15) for a geography field trip – if it gets dropped down a mountain he’s in BIG trouble 😮

    William

I agree with you about its size and its easy to use as well, I have done plenty of static shots on it this year and feel impressed with them, Even in the rain of Duxford it did pretty well, Although seemed to lose a bit on the Red of the Gnat in the low light,The 602 did similar in the rain in the past. I was using it for a bit before buying S602 and to be fair its out lived the 602 as well, Its not ment to do high speed photo’s so i am not crititising it on that.
I hope your one survives the Mountain trip, Think it will they built like Brick Sh*t Houses, My flat mates one is scratched and has had a few knocks and still works fine. I was just just unlucky with the 602, Mind you if someone who knows what they are doing took it apart even its problem can be solved.

I think i have decided on the Panasonic now so roll on payday 😀 .

The main thing that concerns me about things such as this is the way it causes Segregation in the community, We all live in one country and are Citizens of that country, So we should all live as one and not segregate ourselves, By segregation we build up fear hate and missunderstanding, The very thing that terror groups and fanatics play on.

The newspapers by printing such a story could fuel hatred also and that worries me, We are delicate times at the moment and the Terror threat is high i really hope this eventgies without a problem.

Thanks for all the advice you guy have given me so far, I’m quiet sad that it will cost so much to repair my S602 because up until this point i have got some pretty good results with it, Somehow a small amount of water of something managed to get inside the lense and has left a “Dust spot” that shows up like anything when you use the camera outside(inside its barely noticable.
I am planning a DSLR at some point but not for a couple of years, I am not sure i can warrant the spending of more than £300 on any equipment at the moment as i’m not that skilled with a camera really(nor does the bank balance look too healthy), I don’t really trust E-***
for purchases like this so what i want is a sort of Bridging Camera to practice a bit more on and hopefully get some good results like the S602 did. The panasonic seems to have a lot of functions so maybe if shutter lag not to bad it will be ideal.

The other annoying thing is i won’t be able to buy the camera until after Legends and RIAT so loads of photo oppitunities missed there, I will be taking my flatmates Camera instead thats a Fuji Finepix 2800Zoom, I won’t say its got shutter lag but you set up your shot for the Aircraft on its First pass and if your lucky the camera will take the photo by the time the Aircraft is on its Second pass 😀 , Needless to say i will only be doing static shots.

If anyone is going to Legends and fancies meeting me PM me as i plan to go alone on the Sunday.

Can’t say seen much “Vintage” stuff in the skies over Croydon lately, Saw Two Jets in fairly close formation Thursday Lunchtime, Thought possible Learjets or something but did’nt get enough of a look to tell. Saw Yak-52 recently too.
Have had “Chinooks” “Merlin’s” and “Apache” choppers in pairs in last few months but thats about it for the non day to day stuff.

Same as always then, tail chase mustangs and spitfires blaah blahh blahh.
    Stay away again.
yep, thats what i’ll do, I’ll stay at home.

Personally i Enjoy the Spitfire and Mustang Tailchases, After all you do not get to see them at every show do you?
Whats intresting for me is i have read elsewhere that the Aerostars have been booked for Legends, I would not have expected them to be there really, They don’t really fit the general pattern of the show in my view.As the Yak-50s and 52s although great Aerobatic Aircraft and Trainers and possibly a “Warbird” for someone without a huge Budget, Are not “Legends”, Or maybe i’m being a bit unfair on them after all they put on a good show.

Lots of TLC plus a lot more swearing but she is fixed and will be at Biggin Hill with LF & PS tomorrow. I will be at Dux with P7 this weekend.

Thats great news its not a Airshow without the Lanc, Glad to see the TLC and swearing paid off, A big well done to all involved i think.
Look forward to seeing her at Biggin, have missed her so far this year with the rain at Duxford and her troubles at Southend, But with blue skies promised tommrow here’s hoping it will be a great day.
