Yes this is very true, I was in a Sea cadet group when i was growing up and they always told us “Its a Union Flag unless flying on a jack staff/mast”
Its a little like the Big Ben thing most people call the Parliment clock tower Big Ben and do not realise its just the Bell that has that name, The name Union Jack has stuck in peoples minds but is strictly wrong.

I hate to break it to you but the people who make silly comments are bringing in the cash so we can keep our heritage. people in the Industry need public support. We are just a small group here and should welcome public backing. I am sure many moons ago some of us where standing on the banks of the Thames saying:
‘Messerschmitts’
‘No there not they’re Heinkels!’
Just a thought.
I agree that anyone who goes to the shows pays money that helps keep or heritage flying etc and for that i am glad, Without them airshows would not happen, I don’t think anybody is saying they should not be there.
But lets lighten up a little theres enough sh1t going on in the world so why not have some fun every now and then?, We all say silly things at times and its the British natural instinct to make fun of each other, Its not offensive just FUN.

duxfordhawkWhile I don’t think that we could ever ‘win’ a war on terror in that we could bring an end to terrorism – that would be impossible, I do think we have ‘won’ in that we will not let ourselves be beaten, and when the going gets horrendous, we still get on with it. Some people mock the so called British ‘stiff-upper lip’ spirit, but I think it’s something as a nation (our multi-cultural nation) we do well. Mind you, as I typed that last sentence I remembered that last week’s bombing suspects were all British citizens, they didn’t show much ‘British spirit’, did they? I guess I will just have to think of them as British in name, but not true Brits to the core.

I completely agree with you Ashley, I feel proud to be British today and i am very proud of my fellow Londoners for how they are dealing with this situation.
I see these “people” who killed so many innocents as the bad apples of our fine country, They have chose to Bring War and Terror to our public and our public has not backed down or ran away, The stiff upper lip still exists and in our modern multi-cultural society it seems stronger than ever, Together we are stronger than these “people” can even dream.
I work on the public transport and confess i am a little scared at work but i am not put off, I see so many people not only workers still travelling to London and i feel in my heart if they can travel and defy the evil that did this then i can be there to serve them.
I don’t really think the war on terror will ever end as such but its not a war we are losing when we are united, I honestly feel they can not beat us and as with the IRA we got almost used to the danger and lived with it, Praying we won’t be caught in a attack but also deciding life goes on. We are a stubborn nation anyway and more over we are a nation that does not let people dictate what we do in our lives easily.
We will carry on with our lives and be stronger for it, 7/7/2005 will always be in our memories and histories but so will the fact we stood united against the Evil, Britain is stronger for this and that makes me feel proud not beaten or in fear.

duxfordhawkI overheard 3 comments that made me smile a lot and can think of a few other from other shows too.
1) A woman to her son saying he will see Red Arrows later, I think they probably found later they were at the wrong show.
2)A man telling his friend that the Saab B17 was a Avenger and he had worked on them in the past, I would have loved to see how he made a Avenger into Saab B17.
3)There was also one man claiming to he had seen many Hawk 75s during the 1970s and one crashed near his house, Still wondering what he ment.

duxfordhawkI am still in shock here in Belarus and for first time i feel a long long way from Home, My sympathies and prayers are with all those who this evil act has effected i also pray nobody i know is involved.
As to canceling any events my oppinion is carry on and show these scum what us Brits are made of, As the Tom Petty song says “I will stand my ground,and i won’t back down” .They can only beat us if we let them lets have some true Brit character here a stiff upper lip and a strong will.
