That is a thought that has also occurred to me.

Depends if they inadvertently mutter something about being back after the break…;o)

So, does that mean you should ignore it? I found it horrific; you seem to accept it as normal. Sad.

Why not ignore it, it is not like it was an unusual event if you discount the fact that it happened on live TV, and another one will be along in a minute and that will be followed by another and so on, until the authorities do something about it. And the authorities won’t do anything about it because the gun enthusiasts buy a lot of political leverage in an attempt to dowse the flames that burn about senseless killings.

Should we hold a sweepstake or something on the number of multiple killings by civilians using guns on other civilians? In America, of course… We could have a go at guessing the largest number shot dead in one event between now and the end of the year, how many killed in mass shootings (two plus, and the shooter has to either kill himself or get killed by the police at the scene or whilst running from it) in total between now and the end of the year, and maybe an award for the flashiest ‘event’ – like the TV killings.

No, that would be way too tasteless, even to wind up the die hard gun lovers…

I would imagine that there is a requirement under health and safety for a tannoy system that could be audible in the event of an emergency, something a bit more tragic than an aeroplane coming down in a field by itself, on its own.
Something a bit like Farnborough in 1952…

It is probably the former Croat Do17E – Axis Sally, W.Nr.2095, which was sent to America after the war as FE-2000 and scrapped in 1946.

For some people violence is the perfect answer, obviously.

CA don’t like him and you sort of get the impression that he doesn’t like them BUT having been on the wrong end of a CA ranter myself I know what sort of hair trigger they operate with.

At this years Festival of Speed, at Goodwood, one of the hospitality packages included a Radio Goodwood earpiece – a small radio that was tuned into the commentary so that you could hear what was going on even as all but the noisiest cars whizzed past. I think some were given away with copies of the Daily Telegraph (a sponsor) on one of the days as well.
I doubt they cost more than £5 to make (probably a quid at most) but if every ticket cost a fiver more AND came with an airshow commentary radio would anyone object? This could allow the tannoy system to be positioned further back so as to be audibly less intrusive.
Alternatively make the commentary available on a frequency that could be picked up on car radios, smart phones, etc – like the RIAT did (probably still do – haven’t been there for a few years though), and almost certainly other big events do too (I know that all the Goodwood events are, I have the freq. in the memory of the cars radio so that I could listen and laugh at the repeated reruns of every race whenever I drove through the area!).

If nothing else works, Mysti, get yourself a better shotgun microphone…

    Stupid question, displaying my ignorance.

If it was engine failure would the airscrew have all four blades snapped off during the landing?

Then do a little research and the answers will jump out.

Most (all?) operate on a referral system, from Social Workers, Probation Services, Homeless/Refuge Units or Hostels, Schools, Sure Start Children’s Centres, Health Visitors, Doctors Surgeries, Church Pastoral Workers or Street Ministers, Community Carers, Hospitals, Police, C.A.B. These agencies issue a voucher which is redeemable at a designated food bank – no voucher, no food, after the procedure was tightened up thanks to the Mail on Sundays exposé last year making life difficult for those in a difficult position. Apparently there have been several cases of journalists trying to revisit the story ‘for the good of the public’, but failing.
