IS means Islamic State – not Independent Scotland…;o)

The U.S. needs their backing how many they can muster it has to be seen that these Arab countries are contributing no matter how little or how effective simply because if it was the west going it alone it would be seen and portrayed by Isis as a crusade against the Muslim/Arab nations IMO.
With the backing of Arab countries the U.S. can get the support of not just the armed forces of these countries but the people’s backing too! and more than likely more support from other western countries they are all in the firing line and they need a coalition to band together then ask for more support in what ever form that would take when they need it.

How many men does IS have? How many would the anti-IS forces need, to be on the safe side, and could these ten nations supply that number without leaving themselves unable to defend their own home territory? And which other Arabic nations are likely to join the party on the good guy’s side?

Photographs of the interiors of one, if not both, of the DC4s ended up on the ’28 Days Later’ urban exploration forum.

It looks like two different DC4 cockpits to me. Plus one other cockpit that I haven’t identified:

I add this link for information purposes, not so that we can all have a moan about breaking and entering; take that as a given, eh?

Having seen the GoogleView car on several occasions and also having been to the MofAF a few times…were they using a GoogleView shopping trolley in there?

Must go and check some other museums…

I’m guessing they found some cheap pictures and made up a story from there. Not much of a story, for them anyway; for the likes of us it will generate moans about wasting an old aeroplane…

I got to ask…just how many times has that happened, ever?

I would like to think that people who are prepared to pay the sort of megabucks demanded for that sort of flight are probably not going to go all childlike and play at immature fighter pilots whilst heaving on the joystick, muttering ‘dakkadakkadakka!’ in the back seat…

No idea on who is still around to be interviewed but, like JB (above) says, is there really any mystery in any of these crashes or is it the fact that because the names connected with these incidents are/were well known that has generated the idea that there is a mystery to be investigated?
Thousands of aircraft crashed in WWII, some through enemy action, some through mechanical failure, some because of the weather, some due to human error and some…for other reasons. The Duke’s Sunderland flew into high ground in cloud – nothing too mysterious, hundreds of others did exactly the same all over Britain. Sikorski died in a crash where his Liberator transport failed to climb on take off and crashed into the sea; some might imply that that is mysterious but certainly wasn’t anything unusual – a root around in suitable reference books will find you up to your neck in similar reports of bombers failing to gain height and coming down shortly from the end of the runway.

I guess the disappearance of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry might count as a mystery – a famous writer, poet, and prewar pioneering aviator who presumably died in the wreckage of his reconnaissance aircraft off the South of France in 1944, and whose aircraft was eventually found in 2000. Maybe he died because of the Vichy regime claimed him as their man, or de Gaulle denouncing him as supporting the Nazis – one or others supporters then would have reason to sabotage his aircraft. Maybe. Or he might have been shot down. Maybe. Or he might have grown tired and accidentally flown into the sea. Maybe. Possibly depression…maybe.
    Isn’t this fun.

I would like to think that these remakes will supplement the originals, not replace them, but I am just the father of a little but enthusiastic fan who probably won’t notice any change from one series to another…

Can’t find it now but I did see, a short while ago, that although The Clangers is to be made in a completely modern way the general appearance is supposed to be fairly close to the original; I shall be happy if Palin’s narration is as close to him imitating Postgate as is humanly possible, if not in actual voice then in timbre and certainly without him being forced to talk down or patronise his audience. But if Michael Palin is not your idea of an Oliver Postgate replacement, then who do you think could or should fill the boots?

Thinking about it, and nice (and safe!) though having The Clangers remade is, surely it would be braver of somebody to go back and try remaking the ones that didn’t work at the time, the ones that people don’t remember, and do them right this time…! Any ideas for remakes?

Yes Mike, it was recovered and is now on display at the Volandia museum.

Not according to that article – it says the Volandia one is a former Lebanese one.

Yep, she loves them too. Something wonderful about Smallfilms, Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate… Got her onto Bagpuss, plus The Magic Roundabout and Willo the Wisp too. Not that she wouldn’t watch In The Night Garden or Teletubbies if they happened to be on!

Did you know The Clangers swore occasionally?

At the beginning of episode three, where the doors get stuck, Major Clanger says ‘sod it, the bloody thing’s stuck again’.

I once passed a pedestrian walking along a country road (no pavement) with his back to the traffic; the road had trees down one side and long grass on either verge. It was dusk and the pedestrian was wearing a dark green ‘shooting’ jacket, camouflage trousers, camouflage gaiters and a dark green hat; he also had a full-face beard!…

My second eldest came back from a night exercise with her air cadets earlier this year and casually muttered a tale of some stupid staff member driving their mini bus down a sunken lane at night, with no lights on, trying to find but nearly running over several cadets – in camo – and insisting that it was all just a good laugh. She begged me not to raise the subject with her CO since she is up for promotion and been told by others not to rock the boat; must say that I feel much less confident in their supervising capabilities now.

Presumably if they had a problem between take off and their target they would be expected to return, and if the problem was terminal to their aircraft I guess they’d jump rather than dive happily into the ground…?

I do seem to remember there was one pilot who went twice and still survived the war. Or maybe elements of that refer to a single pilot…
