how many of today’s ‘bad drivers’ have never, for example, ridden a bicycle to school when they were younger?
Maybe more than had the opportunity to actually see a cliff edge when they were younger?
The bane of my firefighter friends life was OLDER motorcyclists; the younger ones apparently came with a lack of experience which actually made them wary of things like sharp bends and oncoming traffic (plus there were plenty of replacements) whereas the ‘born again bikers‘ were coming back to it after a decade or two away, with dulled reactions but that feeling of invincibility that having a car wrapped around you gave – without realising that they were no longer in a car, now being just on two wheels.
Joining some form of cadets might help instill a sense of proportion with cliff edges and educate them about things like rock climbing and abseiling…;o)
Perhaps a picture of someone who has fallen from a great height might wipe the stupid looks off some peoples faces.
Probably not.
You are an ex-para – not having a go but would a photo of some whose parachute hadn’t opened have deterred you? They put warnings on the side of fag packets and in other countries there have been images of a diseased lung during a postmortem. A firefighter I used to know wanted to make every m/c rider watch a brigade video that he’d had to watch which showed brains being tipped out of a helmet, post crash, and also illustrated graphically why riders should wear leathers. Drink drivers don’t heed the warnings unless they’re sober either.
What makes you think these danger-seekers will take notice of anything except a 3m wall near the edge?
Really historic?
(Giving away the plot, somewhat, it’s from a Russian film…)
Firearms are never part of the debate
Unless firearms are the debate…
Heard a man on a radio phone in the other week making a claim that those trying to justify gun ownership came across as sounding like junkies trying to legalise their drug of choice – ‘sure it can kill, but think of the benefits!’ Debate was about sports and shooting was mentioned…
Shouldn’t have mentioned that here – bit like red rag to a bull with this lot, or claiming that Spitfires are boring…;o)
Not bored with it, had a look once or twice and decided to ignore it.
Anything happening on it, or are they still waving handbags about?
This HTC Sensation I have dies in no time.
Had no problem like that with my HTC One: just with the Windows OS, which was lousy and so unsupported it was unbelievable. Managed to mislay it somewhere and go back to my old Android Samsung.
Ithe general US reaction was to stockpile tinned food and literally tons of ammunition…
Can’t eat ammunition…
As for Tigers in Africa – they are found in Asia so not dangerous hunting Tigers in Africa.
So very dangerous when the hunters want their money back, even more so if you find some tigers on your African travels: well, you try telling them they are in the wrong place…

More silliness with guns…
Hmm, I can see who wears the trousers in that house!!
Watch it matey. Wouldn’t want an Apple thing, but she does. Wouldn’t want to wear skirts either, but she has never said I couldn’t…
Photoshop is in my opinion, the best budget gadget out there
Um, and since it is going to a cloud to be paid for by the month (or something) then it will no longer be a budget gadget.
Unless you aren’t bothered about it being up to date…
It certainly opens up some discussions.
Prostitution is a service so they really should adhere to some sort of code of practice. The right to choose before you buy.
It’s about time prostitution was legalised, take the risks ,seediness and stigmas away.It is dangerous for all and encourages crime.
But it is not legal. The risks are there, just the same, though and it will always be seedy in most peoples minds. Not sure how it is dangerous for all unless you mean people who get mistaken for prostitutes by people like Peter Sutcliffe, and since it is a crime and usually the proceeds go to the sort of people who could be classified as dodgy or criminal I’m not sure it encourages crime so much as keeps it going…
Do we give the story the credence it might deserve beating in mind where it has been published?
Didn’t read it ‘beating’ in mind where its published, but it doesn’t sound like I’m missing much.
