Wasn’t there build quality problems with many Spit/Seafires made by Westland?

(When I say ‘many’ I mean in proportion to those built elsewhere. Spitfire The History is a probable source, but I don’t have it with me)

I seem to recall that it hs the dte as September 15th, though press photo captions are not terriably accurate, why let the facts get in the way of a good story/

If I remember correctly anything that might assist the enemy would not be pictured or written about: journalists of the day became used to what they could and could not get away with. Therefore there would be lots of images of crashed German aircraft, and very few images of crashed RAF aircraft. By the time the photo had been given to the official censor and then passed by him it might be several days (or even weeks) later – dates on the back of original photos may refer to the pass date, the date the picture arrived back at the editors desk, the date it was published or the date it was filed in the library; for some reason the actual date it was taken was not important! Captions would be vague, not very often would even an approximate location be given (unless it was obvious) and only occasionally would names be provided.

Also, as has been pointed out, where is the photograph of the plane? If I were a press-photographer at a crash-site (near enough to salvage an immaculate propeller blade) then why wouldn’t I photograph the aircraft?

Bad for moral (see above). Anyway, our planes didn’t crash…;o)

[QUOTE=Last Lightning;2110668]Heres how it is I’m addicted to nicotine its a wonderful drug and I enjoy it/QUOTE]

As indeed every other addict will tell you, whether it is alcohol, weed, crack, etc. (Some of them do use comma’s to make reading easier, though!)

Difference is that you can smoke and drive, unlike the others…(unless there are kids in the car)

I do think the law has gone OTT preventing drivers smoking in their company cars. especially as the only user, though if accompanied I can understand it……..

It is a work place, and you can’t smoke in your workplace. Plus the company will reap the benefits of a boost in the resell value (if they own the vehicle).

Not going to complain about not being allowed to smoke in rental cars?

Shouldn’t we be more concerned about the growth in elephant poaching for ivory about which not a word here rather than an isolated incident carried out to prevent species inbreeding in the zoo?

Not going to mention the rules and regulations in Europe that caused this, then?;o)

They have just interviewed the people from Longleat on Radio 5 this morning. The female had a brain defect which looked like it was passed on to the cubs and they attacked and injured a male who was suffering for his wounds.
“In a statement, the Wiltshire park said it had no choice but to put down a lioness and her cubs because they displayed “odd aggressive behaviour”.

A sixth lion was destroyed after the lioness attacked it.”

Hmm, sounds like a reason, but also an excuse does it not?
No real proof of a brain defect, other than the apparent violence (from a big cat!!?), at a time when it is becoming difficult to pass on excess lions due to over breeding: doesn’t sound fishy at all.

It’s obvious that many of you must be vegetarians. You obviously don’t eat meat reared for that purpose nor then are you familiar with the processing of beef cattle thru’ slaughterhouse accompanied by the mournful lowing of said cattle very much aware of their fate.

The difference is that the cattle are there to become food, whereas the lions are alien to Britain, just there as a demonstration of what is around in other parts of the world.
Whether you like their work or not, would you tell Banksy or Damien Hirst to stop working or destroy some of their work because there was too much art out there?
Or, closer to home, would you scrap some Spitfires to accommodate those being found or built from sraps and wreckage?

If there are no more Tigers – a beautiful creature indeed – in a decade, I cannot admit to any very strong feelings about that fact.

Might make replacing your genuine tiger skin posing pouch a little difficult, and that is the problem: if they die out naturally, without our help (like the pandas), then fine, but if they die out because some moron wants the skin for a coat for his mistress or whatever then that is the tragedy.

rifling through bins, and taking the contents, is theft.

But the store in this case was not interested in going further with this prosecution. So, since the CPS decided to withdraw the charges, is there now a precedent set?

The policies vary slightly but the big retailers will mark down the day before the sell-by date and some not until noon on the sell-by date itself. The consumer then has a few days within which to consume the food prior to the use-by date. In reality we all know that many products last many days beyond this. In addition, there is probably more food at risk once in consumers’ hands because it is not transported, stored or used correctly.

This I know, but there are still some foods that you really shouldn’t exceed the best before date – shellfish for example. Can you really trust the public to know what can and cannot be eaten past the best before? The shops and legislators have taken the publics stupidity and brought in rules to combat the chance of ‘old’ food making people sick.

And in any case horsemeat properly butchered and handled is just as nutritious as any other red meat.

The problem is that it is not known if the horsemeat was properly butchered, or even if it was destined to be consumed by humans anyway, and not for pet food or even if it was suitable for consumption.

(this is definitely age talking) Who remembers those heady days when the names of test pilots were as well known as footballers or racing drivers to small boys.

Maybe if we had some new aircraft to test then we’d have more test pilots to know the names of…?
