what I don’t get is why can we be racist but for some reason everyone sees that them doing something to us isn’t for example if I killed an African person I would be jailed not only for murder but also for commiting a hate crime yet if an African person killed me he would only be jailed for murder and not a hate crime so I think its a stupid little word that needs to be implemented for everyone not just white ethnic people

Hate crime? (Seems like you hate punctuation…;o)

Why would you be killing that person? If it was just because of his race then you have your hate crime (see Lee Rigby, for example).

I mean no such thing, because I haven’t a clue what you’re talking about.

It used to be possible to buy a dye called N—– Brown, and I used that in a conversation with a (black) friend, while we were discussing the dog silliness.

    Words fail me.

More assumptions, to which you’re quite welcome, but which only serve to show your ignorance of what I’m really like.

    Still not answering…again.

Think you might find that imitation is the lowest form of wit…

See response immediately above, and I have no wish to “keep up” with your brand of insolence.

Somebody got out of bed the wrong side this morning…

    Sarcasm really does become you.

    Thank you.

I have enough commonsense not to antagonise people just for the sake of it (you should try it sometime.)

Not me – it was suggested by a friend of colour (his intention was more to show how someone intent on causing offence would be pulled up, after the riots the other year).

    Hurrah for never-ending sarcasm.

    (Cue applause)

Can we go back to UKIP, now you have made your feelings blatantly obvious?

Reference the Lenny Henry comments. This ‘traffic’ does seem to be one way. If I went to a country in which I am plainly a minority and then complained that my kind are seriously under represented on TV, theatre and TV advertising so a quota system should be adopted to ensure adequate representation of the minority that I represent – I think I’d be laughed out of the country.

I bet it wouldn’t make any headlines.

I think the optimum phrase in your post is If I went…! If I went to Russia I shouldn’t be surprised if there were no programmes on TV in English or without English subtitles – your point?

Idris Elba – a big name now in the movie and theatrical world, much lauded in the US, reduced to playing mainly roles (bit parts) the equivalent of second mugger on British TV until he got the lead in Luther. Hotly tipped to be the first black James Bond. The sort of actor that Lenny Henry was saying we should be seeing more on British TV.

    How about HMS Victoria?

Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon, a well regarded sailor but also a strict disciplinarian who believed that the best way of keeping his crews taut and efficient was by continuous exercises, ordered a manoeuvre which had two lines of RN warships go through a 180 degree turn toward each other, so that they would fall into a single line. Officers knew that the distance was not enough to maintain safe separation but did not say anything – with the result that HMS Victoria was rammed by HMS Camperdown. The vessels separated, but before all the hatches were secured – it was a hot day so all had been open. With two great turrets, half a metre of armour and the engines still running the Victoria powered to the bottom.

In 2004 it was annouced that HMS Victoria had be discovered – it was nose first impaled in the seabed, like a dart!
The bedrock of the seabed was hidden by 40-50 metres of soft mud; it was suspected that the first 30 metres of the 103 metre long Victoria had crumpled on impact so only about the rear third of the vessel was sticking up like a tombstone.

The report I’ve seen says that there was only one other known vessel of this stature that was an ‘upright’ wreck, in the Philipphines, but that had collapsed.

    Ship left, dumped in Cornwall.

Costs mount for stricken cargo ship MV Sea Breeze

A ship which started sinking off the coast of Cornwall is costing UK taxpayers hundreds of pounds a day in mooring fees.
The six crew of the MV Sea Breeze were rescued when it began taking in water near the Lizard on 9 March.
But the future of the 87m (285ft) ship is uncertain and the Department for Transport is paying more than £200 a day to moor it in the River Fal.
The ship had been taking limestone from Liverpool to Shoreham, West Sussex.

    [ATTACH=CONFIG]227834[/ATTACH]

    ‘Complex’ salvage
The ship was towed to St Austell Bay for repairs, and then the Port of Fowey was directed by the UK Government’s marine casualty authority to take her in before she was moved to the Fal, a deep water area for mooring large ships.
Truro harbourmaster Capt Mark Killingback said: “At the moment she’s being looked after by the Department for Transport and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
“It’s a matter for maritime lawyers to resolve any claims against the vessel.”
The ship is registered in Barbados, had a mainly Russian crew and is operated by Ukraine-based company, KDM Shipping, which was unavailable for comment.
Salvage company Keynvor MorLift claims it is owed about £200,000 in fees.
Spokesman Diccon Rogers said: “Salvage is often complex. There are several interests and legal parties on an international basis so getting paid can be interesting.”
The MCA said: “Negotiations about the future of the vessel are ongoing between the MCA, the salvors, Port of Truro, the operator and their insurers.
“The vessel is securely moored in the River Fal, at Truro, and is being monitored.”
The Department for Transport was unavailable for immediate comment.

Fo those that stated that the other parties had racists in them as well, I would be interested in seeing a similar list in connection with the Labour party or the Conservatives though.

See that most (all?) of them have previous form in other parties. Maybe those other parties were not – lets just say – extreme enough for them?

Not sure this warrants another UKIP thread though.

This thread is purely to show the weirdo’s and their party, not a place for the distraction of discussing what is or not offensive.

Found this – UKIP = United Kingdoms Idiot Party

    An oldy (2012)…

Now UKIP recruit claims it is ‘dangerous’ to let unemployed vote

After Scrapbook exposed sick comments from a UKIP councillor on banning unemployed people from voting, the party’s most high-profile new recruit has rushed to his defence, claiming Cllr Tom Bursnall “has a point”, going on to say it is “dangerous” to let unemployed people vote.

Having defected from the Tories, 23 year-old Alexandra Swann was the star turn at UKIP’s recent conference in Skegness — with party leader Nigel Farage proudly declaring that “the Swann has migrated”.

But appearing to agree with Cllr Bursnall, who as the former chair of Conservative Future is also a defector from the Tories to UKIP, she continued:

“allowing people to vote on how other people’s money is spent — if they dont contribute — is dangerous”

With these views, Scrapbook was unsurprised to learn that Swann idolises anarcho-Libertarian philosophers and is completing a PhD in social Darwinism.

Once again – this is from 2012.

    Want another? From last year…

The UKIP candidate who SUPPORTS sharia law: Right-wing party’s activist under fire for saying thieves should have their hands cut off

A UKIP candidate is facing calls to resign after claiming the solution to crime in Britain is sharia law and thieves should have their hands cut off.
Self-employed builder and UKIP activist Dean Perks, prospective candidate for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, shocked supporters at a rally when he suggested the brutal punishment as a legitimate way to tackle crime.
Mr Perks is due to stand for the party at the next general election but leader Nigel Farage is now facing a barrage of calls to get rid of him.
Speaking at a meeting with supporters in Coventry, West Midlands, earlier this year Mr Perks made the shocking claims.
He said: ‘In my opinion, sharia law works as a prevention – and prevention is better than cure.
‘If you think you are going to get your hand chopped off for pinching something, you won’t pinch it.
‘I recently had a conversation with someone who asked what I thought of Sharia law.
‘I said: “Well in all honesty, I do agree with part – but by no means all – of sharia law”. That’s my view – my opinion. I ain’t going to defend myself. I do agree with it.
‘Sharia law, in my opinion, works as a prevention.’
The potential candidate is no stranger to controversy, earlier this year he faced a backlash when he praised the Enoch Powell, claiming he was ‘well liked in the Asian community’ and labelling him ‘a visionary’.
He was also forced to admit calling someone ‘retarded’ via social network Twitter.
The controversies were a far cry from a statement he gave on launching his campaign, claiming he would never bad mouth other candidates.
In launching his campaign for the hotly contested Halesowen and Rowley Regis seat, Mr Perks said: ‘I hope to show people a new type of politician.
‘It is not my intention to bad mouth or attack any other candidates as I believe we should all be in the running for the same purpose.’
However on he was involved in the ugly Twitter spat which resulted him writing: ‘I just asked the question but he will not answer, I think he may be retarded.’
This followed on from an argument with Labour councillor Dave Branwood who asked Mr Perks whether he thought Enoch Powell, whose 1968 Rivers of Blood speech caused his own downfall, was racist.
Mr Perks replied: ‘No. It’s a fact he was very well liked amongst the Asian community. I’d say he was a visionary.’
This led to anti-facist, left wing politicians, including Dudley North Ian Austin MP and several other outraged Twitter users to round on Mr Perks calling him racist.
However, Mr Perks, denied he is racist.
He said: ‘I have never studied Enoch Powell. I’m not racist because I’m not afraid to have an opinion. I have a Muslim godson, a Sikh brother-in-law and three mixed race cousins.’
Now he is facing more calls to resign from MPs. John Spellar, Labour MP for Warley, said the comments were typical of the party.
He said: ‘Once again this shows the bizarre sort of candidate that UKIP is attracting.
‘People from all communities will be astonished and appalled that Mr Perks want to bring such barbarity into Britain.’
‘The real question is how did he ever get to be a candidate in the first place. I challenge Nigel Farage to throw him out immediately.’
Khalid Mahmood, Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Barr, said: ‘Sharia law can only be applied in Muslim states.
‘There is no way sharia law could be introduced in the UK and Muslims who live in countries where there isn’t a predominance of Muslims, like here, follow the law of the land.
‘Mr Perks seems to be very confused, you can’t pick and chose with sharia law, you either believe in all of it, or none of it’
Mr Perks did not make clear which parts of sharia law he agrees and disagrees with and could not be contacted for comment yesterday.
But on his Twitter page he insisted he is ‘against sharia law in the UK’.

‘Nazi salute was me grabbing phone’

Somerset candidate Alex Wood was suspended from the party pending a police investigation into a series of allegedly racist postings on his Facebook page.
In one picture he was photographed apparently making a Nazi salute although he said: ‘The supposed wrong hand salute is actually me grabbing after a friend’s phone.’ In another image, he was pictured in front of a Union flag holding a dagger between his teeth.
He said: ‘‘I am completely against the Nazi beliefs, I am a democratic libertarian.’

    ‘N***** in the woodpile’

Rob Fraser, a former Tory councillor before becoming a Ukip candidate in Leicestershire, is no stranger to racist controversy having already been investigated twice in the past three years.
One was for using the phrase ‘n***** in the woodpile’ and the second for saying Romanian travellers would ‘stick a knife in you as soon as they look at you’.
He was suspended for a month in 2009 and sent for ‘intensive’ diversity classes. He said at the time: ‘I regret using the phrase but I wasn’t using it in a racist manner…You have to be so careful what you say these days but I can’t stop being me.’

    ‘I’m not endorsing Jimmy Savile’

This year’s Hampshire candidate Bradley Monk, 19, wore a mask of DJ paedophile Jimmy Savile to a Halloween party last year. A photo was posted online.
He told The Sun: ‘It was meant as a harmless joke. I’m in no way endorsing Savile — what he did was disgusting.’
‘People won’t think I’m an Adolf Hitler sympathiser’
Richard Delingpole, 46, stood for UKIP in Blackmore Vale, Somerset, earlier this year. He posted a photo mock-up on Facebook of himself stood next to Adolf Hitler. Opponents said the stunt was ‘shocking and abhorrent’ but he said it was a joke to highlight how Tories were trawling social media accounts to embarrass UKIP candidates.
He said: ‘It’s clearly a picture I have Photoshopped, it shows we’ve got a sense of humour.’

    ‘It’s just ethnic banter’

Chris Scotton, another candidate in Leicestershire this year, was exposed as an activist for the far-right English Defence League, which has been linked to violent demonstration in Leicester and elsewhere.
The 24-year-old was suspended by ULIP for expressing his support for the group on Facebook in 2010.
He also ‘liked’ a site called ‘I hate [it] when I lose my black friend in the dark’, dismissed racism as ‘just ethnic banter’ and ‘liked’ a number of sexist pages on Facebook, including one which derides ‘fat slags’.

    ‘Exercise stops children becoming gay’

John Sullivan, a candidate in Gloucestershire, was investigated for homophobia, after apparently claiming on Facebook that regular exercise in schools can prevent children becoming gay.
In comments which have since been removed, claimed regular exercise for children ‘released tension and thus avoided homosexuality’, according to a website. He also said supporters of gay marriages were ‘termites’, and congratulated Russia for banning gay pride marches. He is still standing for election.

‘World War Two was engineered by the Jews’

Anna-Marie Crampton, who represented the party in East Sussex, was suspended after claiming that the Holocaust was caused by the Jews.
Web comments made in her name in February said: ‘The Second World Wide War was engineered by the Zionist Jews and financed by the banksters’.
And went on: ‘It was thanks to them that six million Jews were murdered in the war along with 26 million Russians’. She claimed her account had been hacked.
She was suspended pending an investigation.
But she still wrote a song urging people to vote for UKIP. She said: ‘I still endorse UKIP they are the way forward. I am not the only member that has been the victim of a dirty tricks campaign.’

‘Margaret Thatcher is an old w****’

Ken Bell, a candidate for Pendle Central in Lancashire, attracted attention for his unsavoury views since joining Twitter earlier this year, at one point describing Margaret Thatcher as ‘an old w****’, and declaring his admiration for Joseph Stalin.
Mr Bell, who trumpets the fact his wife is from Mexico in campaign literature and describes himself as a socialist and ex-Labour member, has been accused of ridiculing the disabled, being homophobic and making lewd attacks on political opponents. He said he had ‘no regrets’ but has now stood down.

‘Just a general hatred for humans’

Zoe Philpson, who ran for Northumberland County Council, listed her activities on Facebook as a ‘general hatred for most humans’.
She has also ‘liked’ comments such as ‘God made every person different then he got to china and thought F**K IT’ and ‘Two chavs jump off a cliff. Who wins?…society.’

    Another 2013 revelation:

Dr Julia Gasper branded gay rights a “lunatic’s charter” and claimed some homosexuals prefer sex with animals…

She has now resigned as *chairman of the [UKIP] Oxford branch after airing her views on the party’s *official members’ forum.

Her controversial *remarks and those of other members sparked outrage.

UKIP has since suspended the forum after Labour vice-chairman Michael Dugher led complaints about “the nasty racism and appalling homophobia” of some of the comments posted.

A spokesman for UKIP said: “Dr Gasper has stood down to avoid doing herself or the party any more *damage.

Later in the year she was back…

Former UKIP candidate Julia Gasper questions whether the only gay Holocaust victims were Jews

A former UKIP parliamentary candidate has written a paper questioning whether gay people sent to death camps during the Holocaust were only sent there because they were also Jewish.
Dr Julia Gasper, a former parliamentary candidate and UKIP branch chairman in Oxford, made the claims in a paper titled “Where Is the Evidence for a ‘Homocaust’?”, which was published on Academia.edu.

    Another from 2012:

Ukip candidate Geoffrey Clark condemned over compulsory abortion views

Geoffrey Clark, who is standing for the Ukip National Executive Committee and local elections, is under fire over his personal internet “manifesto” containing controversial views on disabled people, Muslims and immigration.
He called for a Government review to “re-examine the pregnancy abortion time limit. Consider compulsory abortion when the foetus is detected as having Downs, spina bifida or similar syndrome which, if it is born, will render the child a burden on the state as well as on the family”.
The manifesto also said a review should look into medical treatment for people over the age of 80, which the 66-year-old says is “extraordinarily costly” to the NHS.
In another section of the website, he appeared to describe immigration as a “cancer” in a poem about the “defending British culture from attack”.
He also quotes purportedly from translations of the Koran and says “anyone who does believe it today must be a scumbag”. On gay marriage, the candidate said the idea is an “abhorrence”…

‘Anders Breivik had the right idea’???

Sheffield UKIP candidate removed over Breivik blog post

A man who was due to stand in Sheffield’s local elections for UKIP has been stripped of the candidacy over comments made on his blog.

Steve Moxon, a former government whistle-blower, is standing in the Dore and Totley ward.

On his blog he said Norwegian killer Anders Breivik’s thesis on Islam and political correctness was accurate.

Geoffrey “Women who don’t clean behind the fridge are sluts” Bloom digs holes in 2013

Godfrey Bloom, the Ukip MEP who sparked controversy by claiming British foreign aid should not be sent to “Bongo-Bongo land” and claimed that women are better at finding “mustard in the pantry” than driving cars, has embarrassingly confused Channel 4 News’ Faisal Islam for Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

Replying to a post on Twitter by Channel 4 News’ economics editor Faisal Islam, Mr Bloom posted: “Perhaps you will let him [George Osborne] answer a question, unlike your one-sided rant at me?”

Mr Bloom was referring to a disastrous interview with Mr Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 News. Mr Bloom said that “President Bongo of Gabon [is] the current president of Gabon, and his name is Bongo”. The MEP eventually became frustrated with the questioning by Mr Guru-Murthy in the interview and stormed out.

The controversial politician was notified of his case of mistaken identity by Mr Islam shortly after: “Are you perhaps mistaken me for @krishgm? [Krishnan Guru-Murthy] He is a different person.”

Mr Bloom caused offence and was reprimanded by his party with his comments about Britain’s foreign aid contributions in August. The Ukip MEP was caught on camera demanding the UK stop sending money to ‘Bongo Bongo’.

Speaking to ITV’s Daybreak programme Mr Bloom insisted his comments were not racist as a bongo is a type of antelope, so he was simply referring to a land of the antelopes.

“If anybody would care to take a look at the Oxford dictionary this morning, they would find ‘bongo’ is a white antelope that lives in the forest,” he said.

He added: “There is no connotation of racism about whatsoever. ‘Bongo Land’ is the land of the antelope.”

The phrase has been notorious since former Tory minister Alan Clark used it to refer to Africa in 1985 in an official meeting. Ukip has now banned its members from using the phrase.

Mr Bloom courted even more controversy after he disparaged women drivers in a piece for Politics.co.uk: “Men and women care about different things on a micro-scale. Leaving the lavatory seat up, wet towels on the bed and the top left off the toothpaste will drive a wife mad. A man simply cannot understand what the problem is. Most wives do not regard putting petrol in the car as any part of their responsibility. Men cannot see the point in making the bed if you are going to get back in it tonight.”

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/gaffeprone-bongo-bongo-land-ukip-mep-godfrey-bloom-in-case-of-mistaken-identity-on-twitter-8805048.html

Male UKIP MEP never had a baby!

Ukip MEP Stuart Agnew seems to have stepped into the void left by Godfrey Bloom, who jokingly called women “sluts” for not cleaning behind the fridge, by suggesting women lack the ambition to “go right to the top” because their desire for a baby “gets in the way”…
…”I’ve never had a baby, but I understand if you do have a baby it can change your life – it changes your ambitions. So, the route is there. Those females who really want to get to the top do so.”

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, ex UKIP leader and Islamophobe, stirs the pot in the Lords

    4.36 pm

Asked by Lord Pearson of Rannoch

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what was the basis for the statement by the Prime Minister on 3 June that “There is nothing in Islam that justifies acts of terror” (HC Deb, 3 June, col 1234).

Lord Pearson of Rannoch (UKIP): My Lords:

“But there is a problem within Islam—from the adherents of an ideology that is a strain within Islam. And we have to put it on the table and be honest about it.

Of course there are Christian extremists and Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu ones. But I am afraid this strain is not the province of a few extremists. It has at its heart a view about religion and about the interaction between religion and politics that is not compatible with pluralistic, liberal, open-minded societies.

At the extreme end of the spectrum are terrorists, but the world view goes deeper and wider than it is comfortable for us to admit. So by and large we don’t admit it. This has two effects. First, those with that view think we are weak and that gives them strength.

Second, those within Islam—and the good news is there are many—who actually know this problem exists and want to do something about it, lose heart”.

Those are not my words but those of Tony Blair, after the Islamist murder last summer of Drummer Rigby—the same Tony Blair who, as Prime Minister, dismantled our borders to,

“rub the noses of the right in diversity”.

We must be grateful that his subsequent experience as our Middle East envoy has taught him something about the reality of modern Islam, and that he had the courage to say what he did. In these few minutes, I want to talk about some of that reality.

Islam does not enjoy the separation of powers that we take for granted in our liberal, western democracies. Islam’s Sharia law is a legal, political and religious system all in one, which takes its authority solely from the Koran, the Hadith and the Sunnah, as interpreted by its religious clerics, collectively known as the ulema.

Our Muslim friends tell us that the jihadists are a misguided minority who misinterpret the Koran and the holy texts. They point to verses such as Surah 2, verse 256, in which Muhammad commands that there shall be no compulsion in religion, and to other verses.

You see, it is upsetting when names are called – but at least what I called you was not offensive.
Now imagine I did not subvert your name but instead made it a reference to your colour.

    Play nicely, Edgar.

A thread to show the mindset of UKIP and its followers

UKIP has a strange set of followers, eager to demonstrate their extreme views off.
The point of this thread is to illustrate those views – if you want you may start a thread about other parties and their supporters views, but this one is all about UKIP.

    No rape in marriage

Ukip donor says women cannot be raped by their husbands
Demetri Marchessini is latest supporter to plunge party into controversy as polls show party heading for election win

Nigel Farage faces fresh embarrassment over the controversial views of its supporters when a former Ukip donor said on television that a woman could not be raped by her husband…

…Marchessini, who previously said there was no such thing as date rape, said that rape could not take place in marriage. “There’s no such thing,” he said.

“When you get married you promise to look after the other person for the rest of their life. You certainly don’t promise that you’re going to put them in jail. If you make love on Friday and make love Sunday, you can’t say Saturday is rape. Once a woman accepts, she accepts and especially when she makes a vow on her wedding day.”

    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/apr/30/ukip-donor-says-women-cannot-be-raped-by-husbands

Gay men don’t love (Should we bow to his expert knowledge on the activities of homosexual relationships?)

Marchessini said that gay men are incapable of experiencing love. He said: “There’s no love, only lust, and also the physical actions that they do are completely different. They go out at night and they pick up five, ten, fifteen different partners in one night. Is that love?

“They are not husband and wife. They are roommates and both of them go out cruising. There is no such thing as fidelity in homosexual relationships. They just all go out looking for action. That’s the way it is.”

    Ladies fashion

Marchessini…said women should be banned from wearing trousers because they “discourage love-making”.

    Farrage embarrassed by doner’s donations

Mr Farage said: “I am sure he gave the money in good faith and it was taken in faith.”

Asked whether Ukip should be taking cash from a donor with such views, he replied: “Possibly not.”

Farage is ’embarrassed’ by his candidates – their Nazi salute photos on Facebook, extremest ‘likes’, ex-BNP organisers and a remarkable amount of social media site hacks not in their favour

Nigel Farage: Ukip has a ‘handful’ of embarrassing candidates

A few Ukip candidates have views that “don’t look very pretty” ahead of the May elections, Nigel Farage, its leader, has said.

Mr Farage admitted the party has a problem with a handful of candidates after Ukip suspended one potential councillor following reports showing a photo of him delivering a Nazi salute.
Speaking on BBC Radio Four’s Today programme, the Ukip leader said the party has had a couple of “bizarre cases”, including two former members of the BNP.
He said the party forbids ex-members of the far-right party and turns away people who appear “very, very odd”. However, Ukip most has to “take people on faith”, he added.
“We don’t have the resources to trawl through absolutely everybodyメs social media sites and that has led to one or two embarrassments,” he said.
Mr Farage said the case of Alex Wood, suspended for appearing to make a Nazi salute in photos, “doesn’t look very pretty”.
The party decided to suspend the 22-year-old after photos he had posted on Facebook emerged, as well as comments appearing under his name saying that Africans “lived in mud huts” and “kill each other”.
Another photo shows Mr Wood, who is a candidate in Blackmore Vale, Somerset, clenching a knife between his teeth against the backdrop of the Union flag.
Mr Wood, who denies that he posted the comments, saying his account was hacked, is the latest Ukip member to provoke controversy ahead of Thursday’s local elections.
He claimed making the fascist gesture was not racist, posting on Facebook: “Is it racist? No. It’s only racist if you consider it being racist.”
Ukip also suspended Chris Scotton a candidate in Leicester, at the weekend after it emerged that the 24-year-old backed online groups with racist views.
Mr Scotton was suspended when he “liked” a series of controversial organisations on Facebook – including the extremist English Defence League, a site that claimed racism was “ethnic banter”.
Another Ukip candidate in East Sussex, Anna-Marie Crampton, was also suspended after allegedly posting anti-Semitic comments on a website – she said her account had been hacked.
In another blow for the party, Ukip was forced to withdraw its support from Sue Bowen, a Ukip candidate in Cornwall, when it emerged that she was once a BNP activist.
It follows an outburst from Tory veteran Ken Clarke, who branded UKIP a “collection of clowns” and its voters “fruitcakes and loonies”.
Mr Farage, who was pictured shaking hands with Mr Wood, yesterday denied Ukip was a racist party. He said: “There is nothing in Ukip that is racist in any way at all and Ken Clarke knows it.”
Simon Cressy, of the anti-racism campaign Hope Not Hate, said the comments apparently made by Mr Wood were disgusting.
He said: “This shows the mindset of some of Ukip’s candidates. His language is disgusting. If UKIP doesn’t want to be seen as racist it must filter out these elements from the party.”

And here is a few more from The Spectator

Are you fit to be British? Take the Ukip test

If you believe that Ukip supporters love Britain and cannot abide Europe, look at the report by the pollster Peter Kellner in the current issue of Prospect. Ukip fears Britain has:

‘gone off the rails. Hence the fact that 57 per cent of Ukip supporters would prefer to migrate to mainland Europe if they could.’

To put it another way, no one hates his country more that the bawling patriot. The reasons for Ukip’s loathing are many, and in some instances understandable: falling living standards, politically correct double-standards, mass immigration, poor public services, political corruption and the timeless complaint of the old and disappointed that ‘things ain’t what they used to be’. I am all for a conservatism that preserves the best of the past, but to pretend that Ukip isn’t home to the worst of Britain is to be either self-serving or delusional. To then bend over backwards and say, as so many of our mainstream commentators do, that Ukip may be rough around the edges but is still a respectable movement is just asinine.

Let me spell it out: Ukip is inspired by hatred. The sight of their fellow citizens drives Ukip supporters into foaming rages or indeed to France or Spain, not arguments about the Common Agricultural Policy. Perhaps you are one of the hated. To find out, ask yourself

    Are you black?

In which case, you probably should leave. After Lenny Henry complained that there were not enough black faces on television, William Henwood, a Ukip candidate in Enfield, said, ‘He should emigrate to a black country. He does not have to live with whites’.

Even those who say we should understand a little more and condemn a little less, ought to have snapped after reading this story in the Observer. I can’t think of anyone more British than Lenny Henry. Yet Ukip candidates pretend that he is an alien intruder; or argue that his citizenship is conditional on Henry doffing his cap, biting his tongue and saying nothing that might disturb foul-minded creeps.

    Are you Jewish?

A web post bearing the name of Anna-Marie Crampton, a Ukip candidate in East Sussex, opined that the Second World War and the gas chambers were a Jewish conspiracy to bring about the creation of modern Israel. ‘Only the Zionists could sacrifice their own in the gas chambers … It was thanks to them that six million Jews were murdered in the war.’ I should add that Crampton claimed that a person or persons unknown had stolen her identity.

Grant French, meanwhile, a UKIP councillor took to Twitter to say that Britain’s Jewish ‘masters’ stopped questioning of the Holocaust. Perhaps his identity was stolen too.

    Are you Muslim?

You might say you are, and a law-abiding and democratic British citizen as well. But according to the Facebook page of Magnus Nielsen, a Ukip candidate in Camden, ‘Islam is organised crime under religious camouflage. Any Muslim who is not involved in organised crime is not a “true believer”, practising Islam as Mohammed commanded.’

Are you Greek – that’s right, Greek – or Turkish come to that?

David Challice, a senior party official and activist in Exeter, in his book The View From Here, quotes Brian Sewell approvingly:

‘The Greek driver seeing a dog in the road a hundred yards ahead will accelerate and do his damnedest to run it down for sport; a Turk will maintain his speed and course, and if the dog happens to be in the way, will run it over – the one is vile the other fatalistic.’

Are you the child of refugees?

Andre Lampitt, who starred in the latest Ukip party political broadcast, said of Ed Miliband, whose parents fled Nazi armies to find sanctuary here:

‘Miliband is not a real Brit. I hope he never gets to be PM! He was only born here. I believe in being British. It is earned through generations of existence not through birth.’

In the Ukip propaganda, Lampitt complained about foreign workers taking British jobs, even though he had come here from Zimbabwe. Another Ukip ‘supporter’ in the broadcast was a jobbing actor from Ireland. Farage himself decided that the best person qualified to be his secretary was his German wife. When I said Farage was England’s greatest living hypocrite, I was not overstating the case against him.

I accept that the liberal-left has used the charge of racism so promiscuously it has blunted its force and diluted its meaning. Its hyperbole has lost the left the respect of many people who now lack the ability to recognise real racists when they are in plain view.

Let me help them out: these Ukip candidates are real racists; not politically incorrect truth-tellers or ordinary, decent folk, who speak their minds, but the real thing.

So far we have been dealing only with immigrants and the descendants of immigrants – blacks, Asians, Jews, Indians, Pakistanis, Greeks and – lest we forget – Turks too. But suppose you can trace your family back to the Norman Conquest or Saxon shore? Surely, you’d be OK. But before assuming that you are a good enough Briton for Ukip, ask yourself

    Are you a woman?

Stuart Wheeler, is a cadaverous gambling tycoon, and a man who would be alone in the kitchen at parties were he not stinking rich. He is stinking rich and funds Ukip, and therefore his courtiers humour him. He said that women were ‘absolutely nowhere’ when they compete with men in sports where they are not physically disadvantaged, such as chess or poker. (He should try telling that to Vicky Coren, by the way.) For this reason, ‘I would just like to challenge the idea that it is necessary to have a lot of women or a particular number on a board.’

What applies in the boardroom and at the poker school applies in Ukip. Its only female MEP, Marta Andreasen, who recently threatened to leave the party, said Farage was an ‘anti-women Stalinist dictator’. He neither liked nor respected ‘intelligent, professional’ women, she said, and thought their place was in ‘the kitchen or in the bedroom’.

    Are you gay?

A UKIP councillor blamed the recent floods on the Government’s decision to legalise gay marriage. David Silvester said the prime minister had acted ‘arrogantly against the Gospel,’ and the Lord had punished the Thames Valley as a result.

Still, if you wish to save your soul and keep your neighbours dry, you could always work out. John Sullivan, a Ukip candidate, explained that physical exercise in schools can ‘prevent homosexuality’. This must be the reason, as a comic on Have I Got News for You explained, why you never see gay men in gyms.

    Are you a patriot?

This may seem an odd question, but as I said earlier no one hates their country as much as the people who stomp around bellowing that they love it the most. Understand this paradox and you will understand Farage’s admiration for Putin. That MI5’s director has complained that his staff must spend so much time monitoring Russian spies, they cannot keep tabs on Islamists, does not bother Farage. That Putin has helped Assad turn Syria into a mass grave or has sent his armies into an independent European country, does not concern him either. Putin is against the European Union and that is all that matters to Farage and the leaders of Europe’s other far-right parties. (I don’t doubt that the new tsar’s persecution of homosexuals also heightens their admiration.)

Are you a member of Ukip?

You might think you would be safe then. But Ukip is Nigel Farage’s personality cult. He allows no competition and has no internal rivals who might threaten his preeminence. And as for Ukip members who talk back…The Times reported:

‘Nigel Farage and other senior Ukip officials traduced colleagues who raised concerns about how the party handled millions of pounds in funds. Mr Farage called a senior female Ukip official a “stupid woman” and told her to “shut up” when she asked for an independent audit into party finances, according to Delroy Young, formerly Ukip’s only black executive. Another member was allegedly physically threatened.’

Menahwile Marta Anderson, who complained about Farage’s Stalinism, told the BBC:

‘I’ve been bullied, in private situations, for decisions I have made by Nigel. I have been accused of being disloyal, breaching confidence and breaching my contract with the party. There’s an attitude that either you keep silent about everything that’s been going on in the party or suffer the consequences.’

Where is the opposition to this bunch of dirty old men, who are heading to victory in a national election? Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats have at least fought back, and my colleagues on the Times and Observer have done some decent investigative journalism. But Labour stays silent because it hopes Ukip will split the Tory vote. The Tories stay silent because they fear that many of their supporters agree with Farage, and the broadcasters don’t apply the same standards they apply to other politicians because, well, Farage is a character who brightens up their dreary schedules.

Every time there is a scandal, Ukip’s opponents and the media let Farage get away with saying that the racist, sexist or gay-hating Ukip candidate is a rotten apple he will throw away.

But the scandals are so frequent you have to conclude that it is not the rotten apple that needs throwing out but the whole stinking barrel.

Those last three paragraphs really do explain quite a lot.

John, to lazily reuse your own quote from…

…Mr. MacEnroe: “You cannot be serious!”

    Really. You just can’t.

Why, about forty years ago, was it thought necessary to impose on the British a system of weights and measure invented by M’sieur Napoleon Buonaparte and supported by sanctions under criminal law ? Insist on using our native and longstanding system and you’ll go to prison. That is the way they do things in Brussels.

Nothing to do with Napoleon, as any attentive school kid or history student could happily enlighten you:.

The concepts behind the metric system were developed in the 16th and 17th centuries when Simon Stevin published details of his decimal notation and John Wilkins published a proposal for a decimal system of measurement based on natural units.
The first practical realisation of the metric system came during the French Revolution, when the existing system of measure, which had fallen into disrepute, was replaced by a decimal system based on the kilogram and the metre. The work of reforming the existing system of weights and measures had the support of whoever was in power, including Louis XVI.
The metric system was, in the words of philosopher and mathematician Condorcet, “for all people for all time”.
In the era of humanism, the basic units were taken from the natural world: the unit of length, the metre, was based on the dimensions of the Earth, and the unit of mass, the kilogram, was based on the mass of water having a volume of one litre or one thousandth of a cubic metre. Reference copies for both units were manufactured and placed in the custody of the French Academy of Sciences.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_metric_system

As for the ‘impose on the British‘ metrification bit it was done because the Imperial system was confusing the young – can I guess that you were taught weights and measures before the change over?
I don’t know the intricacies of feet and inches, lbs, ounces and tons, pints and gallons, but a millimetre is a tenth of a centimetre which is one hundredth of a metre (everyone ignores decimetres…) which is a thousandth of a kilometre, etc, with weights and volume being just as simple – it is all logical.
Can you honestly say that the younger Imperial system (it dates from 1824, when the various different weights and measurements were at last unified; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weights_and_Measures_Act) is logical? I mean, 12 inches to the foot, 3 feet to the yard, 5280 feet to the mile, 14 lbs to the stone, 2240 lbs to the ton – it is seriously all over the place and definitely not logical. Take the gallon:

In 1824, the various different gallons in use in the British Empire were replaced by the imperial gallon, a unit close in volume to the ale gallon. It was originally defined as the volume of 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of distilled water weighed in air with brass weights with the barometer standing at 30 inches of mercury (102 kPa) at a temperature of 62 °F (17 °C). In 1963, the gallon was redefined as the volume of 10 pounds of distilled water of density 0.998859 g/mL weighed in air of density 0.001217 g/mL against weights of density 8.136 g/mL, which works out to 4.546096 L or 277.4198 cu in. The Weights and Measures Act of 1985 switched to a gallon of exactly 4.54609 L (approximately 277.4194 cu in).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_units

Does that make any sense to you, really?

Do you remember the kids TV show Blue Peter? It is still going, you know… I can remember the uproar when they changed from giving both Imperial measurements and metric at the same time to…not giving Imperial. The media went bonkers, yet children were not being taught anything but metric and even OAP viewers (interested in the recipes; remember the days when Blue Peter did cookery rather than just wicked stuff?) said that it was silly to show both and metric was easier to understand.

There is still confusion – miles per hour or kilometres per hour, anyone? How about kilometres rather than miles on signposts?

ukip never mentions all the British citizens that chose to live and work in and around Europe, correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t leaving the EU screw them over…?

What is general avoided is mention that a fair proportion of their donor’s actually live in Europe by choice.

If they were so pro-Britain, anti Europe, you’d think they would, wouldn’t you…?

Have a continent and indeed worldwide (expect for the USA) set of weights and measures is good thing.

Not sure – due to the probable spelling mistake – what this means.
Just in case it is what I think it is…America has officially been metric since the Mendenhall Order of 1893. They still use the American equivalent of Imperial, but they teach metric.

Since it was never broadcast it seems like just another tabloid non-story blown up out of all proportion.

Hardly a non story – there is a video to be seen and he has ‘apologised’!
A non story would be if it was all hearsay and he convincingly denied it.

Yeah, just the lefties reaching for their tried & trusted ‘Racist’ card again, the card they always play in times of difficulty, like when there is someone who doesn’t conform to the ways of the left…hell yeah..let’s dig that good ol’ racist card, yep…that never fails!

So what, in your jaded view, would warrant the term ‘racist’? Obviously not something that would allow him, you and your kind to carry on making offensive and cruel fun at the expense of ethnic minorities in addition to the disabled, mentally handicapped, the unemployed, foreigners whether immigrants or not, and any other unfortunates you fancy abusing, eh?

But hang on a mo…the lefties have played that card so much that its magic power has worn off…people no longer sit up & listen, it’s all really become quite tiresome,

Certainly the BBC have, until now, not bothered with doing much more than telling him he has been a naughty boy and allowed him to carry on the ‘good’ work making money for them.

…folk are asking of the left “is that it? Is that all you have to say?” & yes, that is all they have in the patented lefty special weapons tool box. rant rant blather burble mutter froth…

And all the while the ‘righties’ (the opposite of ‘lefties’, you see? Its nice since to the ‘righties’ ‘leftie’ covers from the Liberals out wards, whereas you know where you are with ‘righties’ – the extreme right!) carry on with their usual rants, claiming that it is perfectly acceptable to call minorities such names since it’s all friendly banter and if they can’t take it then that is their problem for not having a sense of humour.
Not sure I feel totally comfortable with the term ‘righties’ though; should I refer to them by their more usual and proper name, fascists?

Lefties run along now & find another minority who you think will need your support, you’re barking up the wrong tree with this one.

It has been quite a while – if ever – since I heard Jeremy Clarkson (or similar motor mouthed loons) described as a minority, although you are right in that – with his previous ‘foot-in-mouth form, coupled with the sniveling apology he has issued – he needs all the support he can get…

    …you couldn’t say this & you couldn’t say that…

So what couldn’t you say? Something offensive, sexist, racist maybe? You liked picking on the fat bloke, the coloured guy, the fit bird and they complained about you?
It is called bullying in the workplace, and just because you think nobody should have objected to it doesn’t mean your employer agreed with you, came to their senses and realised that they had a responsibility to those workers you were picking on or face a huge bill when the court found in the bullieds favour.
Yes, these people shouldn’t be allowed to be offended should they…bloody crybabies.

Peed me off when we had to remove all the posters on the walls of young ladies in varying states of undress 🙁

Did you keep the ones up of the topless firemen?;o)

But shhhhh the left are about…..best behave if I were you…you may be branded “GASP!!!!!” racist 😉 the only card they have now & they ain’t afraid to play it (again zzzzz)

And that coming from someone calling himself ‘Strangelove’…
