ROFL — Gee, are you Hillary’s over seas representative.

And you? You hate your fellow man that much that you would happily, willingly, stand by and let them be killed?

What have you done to reassure society that you and ALL your fellow gun owners are not crazed, gun-mad, bloodthirsty sociopaths eager to rid the world of those whose feelings, thoughts, beliefs and desires you don’t agree with. How does the frequent murder of your fellow Americans, by guns, benefit you?
What has been positive about guns in the news, other than whatever good the police use them for (ie not gunning down innocents or carrying out instant executions of the unarmed or unthreatening) and certainly not anything put out by the (much biased) NRA?

Nice to see you reduce something about dealing with the shocking and horrific mass murder of Americans to a political sneer.

    Back on topic:

People in Orlando have dressed as guardian angels to protect the funeral of one of the Orlando shooting victims from homophobic protesters.
A small number of Westboro Baptist Church followers, attended Saturday’s service for Christopher Leinonen.
The anti-gay organisation only has about 40 members but is well known for its hate speeches and funeral protests.
The handful of demonstrators was blocked from view by around 200 counter-protesters.
“I think our presence here is just to show support for the families of the victims and we want to make sure that we’re an ally,” said one supporter, Suzanne Draper.

One half of a duo from the early 90s and and actor from the late 90s onwards…

Prince Be, one half of the hip-hop/R&B duo, P.M. Dawn, passed away yesterday. The entertainer, whose real name is Attrell Cordes, was 46 years old, and is said to have been dealing with complications brought on by diabetes. He died in his New Jersey home from kidney failure Friday morning, according to TMZ…

P.M. Dawn scored a number of hits in the early 90s, and they are well known for their 1991 single, “Set Adrift On Memory Bliss,” from the critically acclaimed debut, Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The UtopianExperience.

Actor Ron Lester has died at a Dallas hospital, according to his agent.

The 45-year-old, best known for his role as Billy Bob in “Varsity Blues,” passed away peacefully shortly before 9 p.m. local time Friday, Dave Bradley posted on Facebook.

Lester, who also had roles in “Not Yet Another Teen Movie,” “Freaks and Geeks” and “Popular” was hospitalized in November because of problems with his liver and kidneys and had been hospitalized for the last four months, TMZ reported earlier in the day.

    Shot?

According to the long running and very smug thread about American gun violence here, I thought such things didn’t happen in the UK. But regardless of the way a country would like to see itself, sometimes you have to admit that there are just nutters everywhere.
If the media reports are correct, it’s a further sign that politics are getting increasingly toxic. Not a good sign for the future.

    RIP.

I do not think this is the place for politicising the situation; maybe we should keep this thread for posts relating to the case, so I have replied to this post here – http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?135899-Only-in-America&p=2319308#post2319308

Post I have copied across from the MP Jo Cox has been killed thread, in an effort to prevent that thread going too far off topic.

Strangely enough, J, if there is a shooting in Britain it usually makes the national news – not gets hidden away amongst all the others or goes unreported.

Smug? Maybe, but then we are in a place where shootings are relatively rare and not the norm; can the same be said of America? Yes, maybe the ban on owning firearms was taking a bomber wing to carpet bomb the entire area just to crack a nut (the American way?) but we don’t have school shootings or family massacres taking place every month or so as a result. Still, at least US gun owners can claim they feel safer against the threat of intruders or muggers without wondering if their kids might decide to deal a little revenge on society or their old school friends for perceived slights. We can be smug because in Britain only criminals have guns, and even then they appear to be more than a little content just wave them about in a threatening fashion, whereas in America it is almost as though the mindset is trying to find ways to make their gun go bang.
And this thread carries on because the stupidity carries on; maybe it will carry on as long as there is a reason to highlight the fact that there is a problem with guns and no one wants to do anything about it. Maybe they are too scared of the NRA to stick their heads up and make their voices heard; maybe the NRA needs to have its impact reduced so that some dialog can take place without a self interest group drawing a line on the ground and daring others to cross it. Maybe there ought to be an inquiry into the place of guns in society, carried out by a totally independant group whose findings would not be influenced by threats or bribery from those with a vested interest in selling guns or protecting the rights of gun owners to go around shooting others, and those findings accepted.

Yes, there are nutters everywhere but our nutters usually cannot get hold of a gun (and this one apparently had to make his own) so have to resort to using knives, axes, swords, bits of wood or their bare hands, rather than handguns or assault weapons, etc, which can be purchased in the next aisle from the fruit and veg, along side the scented candles in Walmart (other super markets will also sell them to you).

Bring on the outraged nutters and their flame replies.

Well, the guy named as the killer does trace back to a far right group.

The man arrested over the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox is believed to have had long-term links with a hard-right group based in London which had been campaigning for many years for Britain to leave the European Union.

Thomas Mair was named as a supporter in an online publication of the Springbok Club, an organisation which has defended the white supremacist apartheid regime in South Africa.

Witnesses to the fatal attack on Ms Cox say they heard Mair shout “Britain First” as the MP was shot and then stabbed. The organisation Britain First, which was founded by former members of the British National Party, has denied that Mair was associated with it and say they condemn the killing.

The link between Mair and the Springbok Club goes back ten years when its online magazine, the Springbok Cyber Newsletter, was inquiring about the whereabouts of “Thomas Mair, from Batley in Yorkshire [who] was one of the earliest subscribers and supporters of “S.A. Patriot” who has moved from his address in the Fieldhead Estate district of the town.”

I mention it because it makes daughter laugh and, as John said, in the gear they stick out like a sore thumb (however that strange phrase really works). But then again they did have to stop wearing uniform because the IRA took an interest in them.

John, what about those who are LGBT soldiers? Should they keep an even lower profile now?

The Orlando shooter or John Green?

Just blew snot out my nostrils trying not to laugh out loud.

Incidentally, if camouflage worked then it wouldn’t matter if the military wore it in the street rather than civvies; can’t remember how many times I’ve pointed out soldiers in the street to my air cadet eldest daughter.

The description sounds like an assassination – two shots as she stood there, then a third to the head when she was on the ground. But I’d guess the gunman wasn’t a professional since he hung around to stab her too…

Stupid and shocking and very, very tragic for her family.
