Yes, thanks, I am missing a word (corrected now)…..shouldn’t post after a long weekend with little sleep!

OK, let’s try shortening the quote: “…the punishment for being gay…”?

I will try to track-down the actual interview clip but there is no way that you can add or subtract anything from that statement and not make it completely homophobic…

…let’s try changing the subject: “…the punishment for being black should be down to God alone…”

    …see what I mean now?

There is NO context where being gay should be punished

…being gay is not a crime!

Being anything regarded as not your own fault (original hair colour, mental or physical disability, etc) or a personal choice which does not affect or harm another person shouldn’t be a crime.
And if you want to change the context again, try making the subject of that quote ‘women’ – who already suffer under the beneficent will of ‘god’ (under the guise of those who make these things up to see just how far they can go in convincing others that they are talked to by some apparently omnipotent deity whilst burning witches and unfortunates with psychiatric problems).

It’s a distasteful belief structure, but hardly an uncommon one in the good ol’ US of A.

They cherry pick what they want to believe from their bible – it being very favourable to fiddling with kids, incest, homosexuality, bestiality, murder, etc.

    http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?139104-50-shot-dead-in-Florida

Anyone wonder if his weaponry was smuggled into the country or bought over the counter?
Indeed, another occasion where local gun owners helped to calm the situation – or not.
And not the first shooting in Orlando to make world-wide headlines over the weekend…

Police in the US say they do not know what motivated a gunman to kill the singer Christina Grimmie.
The 22-year-old was shot while signing autographs after a concert in the city on Friday night, and died in hospital.
Orlando police chief John Mina said the gunman, 26-year-old Kevin James Loibl, came from the city of St Petersburg in Florida to confront her.
Mr Mina said Loibl did not seem to know her personally but speculated that he may have been a deranged fan.
After a struggle with the singer’s brother, Loibl shot himself dead.
Ms Grimmie first came to prominence as a teenager for her renditions of hit songs, amassing a huge following on YouTube.
In 2014, she was a contestant on the US version of The Voice.
Stars pay tribute to Voice star Grimmie
Police say she was shot about 22:45 local time on Friday (02:45 GMT Saturday) at The Plaza Live in Orlando.
Mr Mina said: “She was doing a meet-and-greet, just signing autographs and selling merchandise.
“This white male approached her and opened fire, striking her.”

I expect someone will come back shortly to defend his right to have a gun because he isn’t a mentally deficient nutjob just two steps from going rabid-dog postal on other people…

Do we yet get the message?

Maybe we haven’t had it delivered yet – you know what the post can be like…

Quote from shooter’s father (I think):

“…the punishment for being gay is down to God alone…”

(BBC Victoria Derbyshire Show: I’ll check that source and post a link as soon as I can confirm it.)

Is it just me or did the shooter’s father just practically condone this terrible crime?

Think it is you. Of course we didn’t get what was being said before and after that statement, but based on what you have put I would say the father was condemning his son for jumping in first.

Direct question: do believe that homosexuality is a sin that will be punished by God?

You seem to be missing a word here…unless you are actually making more of a statement rather than question.

    Wonder what the others chose?

Moggies? I find if you neuter them they (usually) lose all their aggressive instincts and become tubby lap cats…

Well…..I know what you meant, but check-out HMS Roberts and HMS Abercrombie.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberts-class_monitor#

Anyway, neither would be appropriate for ‘Dunkirk’.

Bizarre statement: also see Terror and Erebus!!! How soon we forget…

    Sorry – what I meant was that monitor(M33) wasn’t a WWII ship.

Were there many FW190’s at Dunkirk, or is that just a library picture?

Library picture (a captured Fw190 flying in America, if I remember rightly).

What a (insert appropriate four letter word here)

    Twit?

CD: thanks for that – I was hoping that a second monitor might survive somewhere but unlikely. I think they were all scrapped except for the ship at Portsmouth.

It wouldn’t matter, the monitor was not a WWII type of ship.

He’s using a French T47 class destroyer. Post war design and, much modified now, doesn’t look much like a WW2 vessel, French or otherwise. It’ll be kept pretty busy trying to simulate the entire Royal Navy!

The only complete surviving T47 is the Maillé-Brézé, a museum ship at Nantes, and unless they are planning on dragging it out to Dunkirk NOW – they are filming at the moment – I’m imagining that it will be used for interiors and onboard exteriors, with CGI for the rest. Maybe the remains of the Dupetit-Thouars, was last noted being used as a breakwater at Lanvéoc, would have been a better option since it would be a relatively wrecked hull (can’t find any current images of it, though) which could be built on.

    She uses Siri…

A woman from Cairns, Australia, used Siri to call an ambulance for her one-year-old daughter when she stopped breathing.
Stacey Gleeson grabbed her iPhone and ran to the child’s room to help her but dropped it as she turned on the light.
She shouted at the handset to activate Siri and told it to get the emergency services on speakerphone as she began CPR.

    British playwright and Oscar winner…

The playwright Sir Peter Shaffer, whose critical and popular successes in the West End and Broadway included Equus, Amadeus, and The Royal Hunt of the Sun, has died in Ireland aged 90.

His agent, Rupert Lord, said: “He was simply at the end of his life but delighted to have been able to celebrate his 90th birthday with friends and then, I think, decided it was time.”

Jack Black is NOT dead, no matter how you might feel it would improve his acting, and a Dutch Eurovision winner.

Jack’s rep said on Saturday, according to MediaMass: ‘He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimised by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet.’

    Takes to know one.

My tongue firmly in cheek quip was actually referring to his comment about how pretty he was but, as we all know, he never usually let an opportunity pass by without making a claim about his skill or what he was going to do – and invariably did – to his opponent. And I never said he lied, either.

Some bloke who did a bit of boxing and a lot of boasting…;o)

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali – one of the world’s greatest sporting figures – has died at the age of 74.
The former world heavyweight champion died late on Friday at a hospital in the US city of Phoenix, Arizona, having been admitted on Thursday…

…Asked how he would like to be remembered, he once said: “As a man who never sold out his people. But if that’s too much, then just a good boxer.
    “I won’t even mind if you don’t mention how pretty I was.”…

A former Fleet Air Arm carrier pilot, author and professor, and a violinist in Fairport Convention.

It is with much sadness I report the death of John Pain on 21st February. John has had a significant and unique association with Imperial College since 1954, until he retired in 1987 and this association continued until his death. John was born in February 1922. He spent the war years flying off aircraft carriers, with postings in the Arctic (escorting convoys to Russia), the Pacific and the Mediterranean (the southern part of the invasion of France in 1944) – amongst others. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Bar. He also served as a Fighter Combat Instructor at the Fleet Air Arm Advanced Flying School at St. Merryn in Cornwall (considered to be the creme de la creme of training for the best pilots)…

Folk musician Dave Swarbrick has died at 75, his family have announced. Best known for his work with the hugely influential folk group Fairport Convention, Swarbrick was a virtuosic violin player and one of the most highly regarded musicians of the 1960s folk revival. He also wrote, arranged and sang, and performed on the viola, mandolin and mandola, and guitar…
