I decided to scrap the covering film and just to paint it instead before varnishing it with clear varnish. Still haven’t got the last 2 issues though    Mark 😀

If you dont clean up the mess today, it will come back and strike you with a vengeance much later on.

The London tube bombings will be a minor footnote in comparison. Before your boys and the US went in, and ISAF, the Taliban and ISI were using Afghanistan as one vast training camp for their jihadis. That is no longer the case.

Hang in there, and good will come of it.

Cut and run, and you will be back, after much worse, later on.

That’s a good point………….I do think that there is more to it that just fighting terror………..like Iraq has oil………..I wonder what Afganistan has that we and America need so badly 🙁 🙁 🙁

as such we’re automatically labelled nothing more than war-mongering Americans.

I must say that I have nothing against the ordinary American…….I have numerous American friends over here in the UK. I do however disagree with various aspects of Americas military and political bits and pieces.

What actually annoys me is when many of them claim that America “saved our butts in World War 2”. This statement (as I remind them from time to time) is not strictly true.

It occurs to me that America only entered the Second World War because of Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941. Our “butts” were saved during the Battle of Britain by the Royal Air Force in the summer of 1940. I MUST POINT OUT THAT AMERICA DID LEND US SOME DARN FINE PILOTS – many of whom were killed…………BUT, so did the Free French, Polish, Canadians, Australians as well as several other countries. My point is that we owe America no more than we owe these other unsung nations. Now that that’s out of the way…………..

Some “Problems” with the American Military include:

FRIENDLY FIRE is often linked with the American Military. I very much doubt that any other country in the world has not experienced similar issues (including the UK)……..BUT………American friendly fire incidents seem to be more common and by far more famous………..has anyone ever seen the film “Hamburger Hill”???????

WAR CRIMES. There were countless incidents in Vietnam of American troops abusing civilians………..it reminds me of the russians abusing German civilians during their push for Berlin and, more recently, there was a case of Iraqi POW’s being beaten and sexually abused in a US POW camp.

In Britain, these are the stories that hit the headlines so it doesn’t really supprise me that many people in Europe believe the American Military to be barbarians and rip into you at every opportunity that they get but you must remember that it is not aimed at the civilian or even the ordinary military population but more so at the “Top Brass” as it were. That’s who people have the problem with.

    Another possible reason could be………

It occurs to me that wherever America goes, Britain has to follow. Whatever America does, Britain has to do also. America blows it up, we rebuild it and end up doing peacekeeping forever more. My best friend went over to Iraq when he was 17. He was shot at at 17. He saw his friends blown up or shot dead at 17. He killed people at 17. He was a war veteran at 17. For what?????????? It’s not a war on terror, it’s a fight for oil supplies.

There are 18, 19 year olds over there fighting for oil, which I can almost guarantee America will have all of. Who started it??????? George Bush started it and Tony Blair gave his support but it’s those 18, 19 year olds who haved to go to hell and back to get it (many of whom wont come back)……….that’s why the American government is blamed by the Brits.

It’s not the American population, it’s the American government that the Brits hold responsible.

    PS……….sorry for the essay 🙁

I quite like Jim Davidson’s one about the Belgrano (or however you spell it). It was sunk in the Falklands by the Royal Navy.

It used to be the USS Pheonix (I think) and was the only ship to survive Pearl Harbor and then we came along and sunk it!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 Mark 😀

Personally, I don’t know why our troops are there……..why not bring our boys home and let the bloody taliban blow each other up……….I hope they go to hell!!!!!!

Why is it that whenever there is a war somewhere in the world, the USA has to get involved and wherever the USA goes, so do we it seems. They blow it up and we clean up the mess afterwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My good friend Jamie went over there when he was 17 and has experienced things that even he couldn’t tell me…………..for what??????

I hope those lads rest in peace………..they won’t be forgotten and nor will anyone else who has died or survived 🙂 🙂 🙂
