Well not at the actual boot, but i did collect the front glass panel for my screen.. albeit in two parts, but it will help as a pattern… thanks again to bamel for his help.

Wondering if anyone picked up that rather nice Supermarine Walrus main wheel and tyre? Very tempting i must say… i had to drag myself away in the end before i found myself with another project .

But overall i thought it was a good Aeroboot, plenty of chat and some interesting items on offer.

I’m preparing to look silly here, because I have to post this from my awful memory rather than tech notes at the moment, but 12.6 seems to small for the AEW.
I seem to remember 12′-13′ prototypes, 14′ ASW series, and 16′ AEWs.
The AEWs required bigger props due to the considerably higher pwerplant output and the larger bulk that it was moving around.

You know you’ve got me thinking now James. I always thought that at 13′ the Wyvern S.4 had a larger diameter prop than any Gannet.. and it certainly looks bigger… so after all these years am i wrong.?:o

This particular Wyvern is thought to have never flown. It was completed by Westlands but not used, so never carried any markings as such. It fact it is debateable whether or not the engine has ever been run. But it does in its present form respresent possibly the epitome of piston engine fighters/aircraft, with an enormous engine/propeller system trying to extract the very maximum performance from such a huge airframe.

I really do like the BAC.221 even more dramatic in that lovely blue paint, I fall to my knees and thank god above that I’m British everytime I see that machine!

Yes i have to agree with your sentiments there. Both baz and i commented on what a beautiful aeroplane it is, especially when you remember how long ago she flew. That stalky undercart gives it some purpose and presence.. i personally prefer it to the earlier short legs… and in that colour she justs looks amazing.

Indeed… and to me when you get up close and personal it is surprisingly big.! Lets hope the ex Southampton G-RNLI makes it into the air at some stage as a fitting tribute.

Well done James, damn fine pics. I see what you mean about the COD.4 Gannet… that cockpit looks like she was flown in yesterday.

Love the first Walrus pic as well.. but not sure about the two dodgy geezers on the ramp behind though… i’m sure i saw one of them trying to get the Wyvern in the boot of his Saxo. ;):D

Hi geoff, welcome to the forum sir. Fascinating insight into the incident, i am keen to know more of the story both pre and post ejection. Also did you suffer any effects from the ejection.?

Yes Rolf Meum.. good display pilot. Have fond memories of Mark and Rolf tail-chasing around here in the T33 and Vampire, Sabre and MiG, and two of the ex Swiss Hunters. Oh happy days..!

Ah thats better, now i see things more clearly. That Canberra really did have a fair ole slide along the ground to end up where it did. Just as well nothing was taxiing at the time.

Those grass areas off the side of the taxiway look even more out of place now… makes you wonder if during construction they simply ran out of money :D.

Ah thanks for that James. Incidentally looking at the same pic, just in front of the Canberra the taxiway narrows for a section or two and then widens out again. Was this to stop pilots confusing it with the runway that seems to run parallel do you know?

I hope that A400 falls out of the sky on the 26th and the damn thing is cancelled, all involved will breathe a sigh of relief.

Except for the flight crew of course…

How did Mark Hanna/OFMC come by the one at Dux?

You might well find that he was a serving RAF officer at the time it moved to Duxford.

The example at Dx that was acquired by OFMC was i believe actually flown by MH when he was a serving officer in the RAF, hence why that particular example was chosen.!
Incidentally when being interviewed several years later, Mark stood in awe whilst looking at the Phantom and remarked “i’m amazed now how i actually managed to fly that”… or words to that effect.
