Ok thanks
Rob
Did the Seafire III take part in the display, and was the Kennet Seafire 17 there as well?
Overall I thought it was an excellent display with fantastic content and a good variety of types. I also noticed on finals for landing over my house that the TFC Nimrod had what looked like a panel wide open just behind the cockpit on the port side – possibly an access door?
Rob
I’ve finished a Seahawk panel, but it’s beginning to spread.
Now that’s looking really sweet, Ian. How far do you intend to go with it?
Rob
I’d be surprised if they took the trouble to inhibit them, plus it has spent years on display outside!
Rob
A flying Jav is a great idea, Doug, but I think it’s been touched on before about the lack of serviceable AS Sapphires that could be used to get one flying again!
Rob
Ok cheers. It’s a beauty that’s for sure, and no doubt spurs you on with your Martinet project.
Thanks for posting up the pics, MM.
Rob
Looks a sound little museum and I must get over to there at some point as I’ve never been. Agree re the comments about the Marathon section though – it does warrant being under some sort of weatherproof cover IMHO.
The Martinet looks absolutely fantastic, congrats to all involved.
Hi Tim, what’s the story re the Martinets reg?
Rob
Bob. T – thank you for the comments. Several years ago I made contact with the late Fred Ballam at Westlands and arranged to drive down to view the archive. Sadly Fred passed away shortly afterwards. Following that I did make further requests to Yeovil but sadly nothing came of it. Thankfully Dave Morris down at the FAAM at Yeovilton was happy to help with my request re visiting and researching their TF.1 to help with my own project!
Bill T – cheers mate. Yes because of the rain I hardly got to meet up with anyone at Newark this year, but will deffo catch up another time!
Rob
Probably wrong but was this Chris’ first flight in the Seafire, as I haven’t seen him flying it before?
Rob
Sorry to hear of your setbacks with the project, Bob, but it’s great to see you are still persevering and making progress!
Rob
Thank you, Andy, for your kind and encouraging comments. And although it’s great that so many look in on the thread to see progress it’s always appreciated when they make time to write a few words with their thoughts or comments.
Rob
I’m finding some of the Vulcan supporters bordering on the mentally obsessive, anywhere the Vulcan is said to be appearing is now probably best avoided…..
David, the fact that this is the last year that we will ever see a Vulcan fly might account for some of the publics “obsessiveness” as you call it.
If it was the BBMF Lancaster having its final year of flying then maybe some quarters would be less judgemental!
Rob
One year at Newark, we should set up a Fleet Air Arm display. Tony Dyer has a Seafire FXVII slice of cockpit, and as I also have a set of Sea Hornet PR.22 instrument panels, I could assemble them into a slice of fuselage similar to yours. There are one or two Sea Hawk cockpits floating around too.
Now that’s an excellent idea, David, I wonder if Howard and Bill would be up for a ‘Royal Navy’ section – maybe next year?!
Rob
That is a cracking display, Baz, very eye catching!
Rob
Indeed, Tim, and when you consider that just the section I am recreating at the moment is marked in red on the diagram, then it helps put the size of the Wyvern into context!
