    Hi Paul, I can’t help with tips on ageing stuff but just as a suggestion why not try the new / old look, where your original items are left unrestored but are complimented by your obviously new build items. I’ve seen several displays like this and the effect can be very impressive.

    Rudder pedals are pretty much ready to go in. I only intend to apply some paint to the new brace bar supports as the ultimate aim is the ‘in service’ look rather than ‘factory new’!

    Very nice donation there, John. Be good if you can utilise some of these original parts with history in your reconstruction!

    Thank you Terry for replying. I too have very little reference material on the 5074 but if the 5071 was very similar then it would probably fill my needs as a space filler.

    Thanks for posting up the photos, aeronut, that looks to of been a cracking day. The Whirlwind display is particularly eye catching.

    But at what price, Dobbins? There’s a heck of a lot of time and money been spent on it, so I doubt it will be sold on for what the average aviation museum could afford.

    Can’t say for sure but I found what appears to be an identical astrodome ‘nipple’ at an RAF Liberator GR.VIII crash site
