Ian – thank you. It was a good feeling, although a little frustrating when things didn’t fit as expected – although some of which was my own fault but you live and learn.

Cheers Mike for the kind comment. Not sure of the number as my list has gone awol. Most of the ones I’ve seen listed are of the 0 – 10 – 20 etc range, but I need the single digit 0 – 1 – 2 through to 6 Hundred type!

A rare Saturday afternoon off from work gave me the chance to finish fitting out the instrument panels. Very time consuming I can tell you.
And on the subject of which I’m on the look-out for two of these 0 to 6 LB pressure gauges (ignore the homemade metal blank) if anyone has any?

In the case that restoration to flight has now been abandoned, then I wonder if they would consider the far less expensive or paperwork heavy alternative of a restoration to taxiing / ground running condition – especially as they seem to be happy that Coventry will now be their permanent home?!
Just like ‘treble three’ at Bruntingthorpe I’m sure it would still be a very welcome attraction!

The Catalina was a very welcome sight back in the skies today. What with all the fighters at Dx I always feel the Cat and Sally B get a little overlooked, despite their uniqueness in British skies!

Regardless of cost or who bought it I have to agree with Runway06 – it’s great that these items keep turning up. In my opinion far better to see it and have the chance of owning it than having items locked away in dusty store rooms never to see the light of day!

The AAM refurb is supposedly bringing the UK/US ‘special relationship’ up to date by covering the past 2 decades.

I guess that will include a life size model of Tony Blair kissing George W. Bush #rse then 😉

Looking back through these photos just reminds me what an amazing museum Southend actually was. Such gems like the Beverley, Lincoln, Casa, Saab Tunnen and Sea Fury to name but a few would be nigh on impossible to replicate now – albeit at huge cost!

Possibly. As I recall the smoke started just at the beginning of the manoeuvre – or literally as it became inverted, but as it was 31 years ago my memory could be a little patchy 🙂
