Luckily, the preserved RAF Argosy at Cosford is going into hangar one when the Cold War exhibition is completed
Wow didn’t expect to see the Gannet there, is she in good condition? Hope she goes to a good home
Yep the electra is on show at South Kensington – never been to Wroughton but managed to get to South Ken about a year ago – the discovery hall is AMAZING…its like someone has set out the nations toybox….Stephensons Rocket, Bluebird, Electra, Pup (i think) and thats before you get to the FLIGHT hall – I have to say, many people denegrate our national Museums but many have really raised their game – the Brit Museum, Nat History and Science Museums IMHO being a few of them…
TT
It’s an Avro 504 in the discovery hall, visited with the school for some launch of a big telescope (really important in the scientific world, but i just went for the planes!). That Electra is really something, the flight gallery is fantastic too with the early Spitfire and Hurricane, both veterans of the Battle of Britain i think. Hmmm i think a visit there soon is needed
You mean like this?

In my head i had an image of a Deer with a minigun strapped to its back, but that’s the closest i could find

Just out of interest, what do you actually do with the Deer after killing it, except chop its head off and put it on the wall?

23 out of 24 in very hard mode – 21 out of 24 in easy mode! Found the easy one harder than the very hard one actually…. something not right there me thinks

Wow, simply stunning, she looks beautiful! Did she not have the H2S radome and mid upper turret then?
I think it may be because of the large calibre – anti tank guns in the Spanish Civil War when the 88′ was first used as an anti tank gun tended to be around the 37mm-40mm range, with shells weighing about 2lb. So the shell from such a large gun as an 88 would have tore the tanks apart, which tended to be very lightly armoured at the time.
All large anti-aircraft guns would be good against tanks, when my Grandad was at Tobruk on 3.7inch AA Guns, they dropped the guns from high level firing to level to take out German Panzers getting too close, it was very successful but they got in a lot of trouble for it, both from his superiors and the Germans who sent a raiding party to destroy them as they were so good – his regiment was destroyed there
Anyone know why the Spit Mk I/II’s are more expensive than the IX? Would have thought it would be the other way round with the Cannon and extra prop blade
Ah right, saw that advert when i bought Flypast on Friday. Anyone know how much a replica Spit would cost? East Midlands Aeropark got a replica Spit recently, i think it was the one owned by a guy in Leicester, it wasn’t the one at Donington Racetrack
Yeah it’s like that video when a news reporter is doing a story at Duxford, with a pilot, one of the Hannah’s i believe, flying Spit MH434, it comes in so low he hits the ground and the Spitfire screams over at unbelievably low level 😀
I’ve seen a similar video from another angle i think, with the cameraman facing the camera and seeing the aircraft come in behind and actually hit him, same aircraft etc but different angle, unless i just dreamt it
