I once flew in an ATC Grob Vigilant which had the large dayglo bands on the wings (i’ve flown 2 or 3 others which didn’t have them) – the pilot mentioned he wasn’t keen on them as they disrupted the outline of the aircraft when viewed at a distance

Nice photographs – what’s wrong with G-AGTM? I’ve won a flight in the Rapide and was hoping for it to be G-AGTM

As someone who has been a teenager seriously looking at a career in the RAF, i’d be surprised if an airshow is designed to appeal to young recruits, and whether an airshow would actually appeal to someone looking for a career in the armed forces

There was a well illustrated article on them in Classic Military Vehicle magazine a number of years back

Hi Paul, yes it’s certainly open to the public on the Sunday – there are Austers arriving on the Saturday but it’s not public orientated and won’t be as many as the Sunday

Nice to see an Auster abroad – are you aware of the Auster fly-in in France later this year?

Very good programmes, particularly enjoyed the footage of Croydon airport in the 1930’s. Some glimpses of my old flat, the Hendon Aerodrome Hotel then Officers Mess in the programme about Hendon

Very good documentaries, particularly enjoyed the footage of Croydon Airport. The Hendon documentary was good too, and my old flat (the ex-Aerodrome Hotel/Officers Mess) popped up in a few scenes!

I’ve not had an invite so I may have to gate crash.
As for the cost, remember it will probably be Mess prices which are more akin to Students Union bar prices than Local pubs. 😉

Or join the Auster Club – if you join in June it’s only £15.75 for the rest of the year, including 3 out of 4 of the years magazines

Will you be joining us at the bar with 656 Squadron on Saturday night? I was very dissapointed to here it was a pay bar – earlier on I thought the same person said ‘paid’, but must be my student ears adding a ‘d’ onto the end of it!

Probably Austers own – they had a history of making and fitting floats, the earliest were those fitted to a Mk V (taken off a dH Queen Bee) and tested during WW2, the idea was so that it could still be used in the AOP and liasion role in the Far East watery regions, but the end of the war meant there was no need for it.

Auster then made their own, presumably exactly or nearly the same as the Queen Bee ones, and were also fitted to other Austers, most famously the two used on the 1958 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (which were interchangeable with skiis and a wheeled undercarriage) and depicted in the Airfix kit
