Leaving Leicester at around 10, so, as the Auster flies, should be there 11.30-12 on Saturday

I’ll be the one in an Auster shirt without grey hair 😉
No doubt the full size WZ662 will be there too
The aircraft is stored by a museum and as far as I know there are are no plans to restore it to airworthy condition. Pity as it is an unusual aircraft but not complex.
Planemike
Last I heard, it was actually under the museum, in the coal mine! Stored with it underground are a Taylorcraft Plus C/2 (which was actually used by the BEF in 39/40 in France, forerunner to the widespread use of Austers in the AOP role), and an Auster J4.
The prototype Auster J1 G-AGOH, was modified from a V to be the prototype Auster J1 Autocrat. It, like the three mentioned above, are owned by the Leicestershire Museums. It was flown in preservation by Leicestershire County Council, based at Leicester Airport, used for aerial surveys, but was then put in Newark Air Museum, who turfed it out a while ago and is now in storage (not sure where, I presumed with the other aircraft but one website stated Loughborough).
If G-AGOH doesn’t count as a prototype because it was a modified V, then G-AGTO, the first ‘proper’ J1 Autocraft, is at Duxford, and flies
Thanks Danni, certainly should be a great success, the only worrying factor is the weather but think we’ve had more than our fair share of bad weather so far. One of the main things i’m looking forward to is the chance to meet those who served with Austers, hopefully we’ll give them a great time
Very good new additions to the line up – Meteor, Vampire and Venom from Classic Flight are provisionally down
I don’t normally ‘do’ airshows, apart from a few Shuttleworth’s and a couple of wings and wheels events, i’ve only attended Waddington and the last Coventry in the past, and very much looking forward to Waddington this year
‘Strange looking Auster’ could cover a lot of Austers mate 😉
I had a search on Flickr for ‘Auster Waddington’, and this one would probably look the most unusual, is it the one you mean?

It’s the Auster AOP 11 (also known as the Beagle E3), a converted AOP 9 fitted with a 260hp Continental engine to give more power, although it was the only one made as the Army switched over to Helicopters for the AOP role. It hit a tree in 2007, wasn’t aware it was flying again until I found the photograph.
edit – or could be this Autocar, fitted with a Lycoming 320 http://www.flickr.com/photos/29126266@N00/2655768488/
Good stuff, look forward to seeing everyone there. I can highly reccomend getting one of the ‘Auster Force’ shirts, the black ones with the etched AOP9 and Auster logo on the sleeve are really smart
I havent been to an airshow for over 15 years and so this year am going to Waddington….in an old aeroplane of course……
Martin
Any idea what you’ll be coming up in? I should be helping out the Auster Club too
It would appear that anybody with a civvie airframe is invited to Pad out a static which year on year becomes more and more boring ( only my opinion)
For all its worth … i agree with your comment on RAF commitment or lack of:)
Most of the more ‘average’ GA types are on display because they are part of the RAF Waddington flying club, and aside from those there’s plenty of other interesting civilian types on static – Austers, Jungmann, Harvard, DH2 etc
Thanks for the offers chaps, although should be alright for a high vis vest. Wonder what military vehicles will turn up, hopefully it will be something more interesting than the usual mix of jeeps and land rovers
Very nice. Would you be interested in coming to a large Auster fly-in at Middle Wallop, South England, in a couple of weeks time?
Good stuff, are you arriving by Auster? I’ll probably be on meet and greet duties for at least part of the day, means I have to buy a dreaded high vis vest though
scotavia, the new owner of G-AOCR is currently restoring it back to its original condition by fitting it with a Lycoming engine, I believe he may be a member of this forum too
Looking good. The Vega Gull is a real beauty, and the photo of it with the pond and trees really does it justice
