Ahah, just found the answer to my own question – they’re moving the Lancaster into the historic hangars area for a BBMF 50th anniversary banquet

Sounds interesting that money raised from it will be going to the refurbishment of the Battle of Britain hall
Rumours of a Gloster Meteor F1 EE221 (one of the ones used by Power Jets at Brunty for engine development and the first jet flown by Whittle (he wasn’t supposed to though, believe he got in a bit of hot water for it)) somewhere on or around the Bruntingthorpe site, sounds pretty convincing as well.
Thanks for the photos, nice to see some civilian types too. Anyone know what’s with the nose on the Lockheed Constellation? Looks modified in some way
Wow, that livery makes it look ancient. Got to love the A320 though, beautiful looking aircraft
I take it that the newly acquired Auster will be in some rather different markings then? Might be something in one of my Auster books but they’re currently about 100 miles from me so won’t be able to check for a while
Are they going to burn die-cast Concorde models in it as a sacrifice to the Gods to get a Concorde back in the air? :diablo:
Heard on another forum that the visitor centre at Heathrow (the one on the northern perimeter road) is now closed as well, is this true? Was hoping to make a trip over there the weekend after this one.
I can strongly reccomend the Fuji S5600 – got mine new for £130 and does everything I want, x10 optical zoom, large size photos, different settings etc, to me anyway it’s a DSLR in a compact clothing (although it even looks like a DSLR)
Fantastic, well done guys, will have to make a trip up before too long to see her
Oops, been away for a few days and missed this one – happy birthday chap, maybe buy you and the others a pint when i’m back home for christmas (providing I haven’t blown all my student loan on the usual student things!)
Great photos, thanks for sharing them – seeing Kinloss again takes me back, found some photos the other day of the time I spent at a week at Kinloss, was lucky enough to get a ride on two seven hour sorties in Nimrods – the in flight meals were superb! I was almost the only one on the flight (including the aircrew) that didn’t throw it back up later on in the flight as well
Anyone know if the outdoor viewing area has been built yet? Tempted to make a visit soon, although have to get a taxi from the terminal to it so bit of a pain by public transport
Ahah, cheers! Thought it was an Airbus at first, but when I uploaded the photos kind of thought it was a 757. Shame about Heathrow, will have to try and find another viewing gallery at a London airport (unless they’ve all gone too).
I’m doing my degree at London Metropolitan University, really looking forward to it and hopefully will get me a job in the aviation industry (only been into airliners for a week now and already fascinated)
Nice, how’d you do it? As of next Saturday i’ll be living 200metres away from the museum on the old airfield site, so not exactly far to go if i’ve nothing to do for a couple of hours!
I’ve seen at least one picture of an Auster III with the polish checked square on it, i’ve put my military Auster book away as i’m moving shortly but i’ll try and find it again before I forget
