Glad you enjoyed the show – I was one of the British re-enactors portraying the Leicestershire Regiment, spent the majority of the show either in my little trench, in one of the Bren carriers on Saturday firing the bren gun and no 2 on the Bren gun in the half track on Sunday! Fantastic event, met a lot of interesting people, plus we won the award for best display which I felt was well deserved. Highlight for me though was meeting a veteran of the Leicestershire Regiment who fought in NW Europe 1944-1945, and getting to shake the hand of that fine gentleman. My photos are up here
It’s a KZ 4, the KZ 8 was an aerobatics plane
http://www.flymuseum.dk/sprog/engelsk/UKfly/kzviii.html (there’s also one in the UK http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=detailnosummary&fullregmark=G-AYKZ)
Here’s some info on the KZ 4, gorgeous looking plane and both made are preserved
I believe yours is a J1 Ritch, the other one (mine, I think) is a J1 too, G-AJPZ. Think there might be another one on site but not owned by Beech Restorations
North East Aircraft Museum at Sunderland?
I agree, a Brigand would be fantastic – I remember reading/hearing that as part of the agreement from the scrapyard where the fuselage came from, that it has to remain in the condition it’s in?
I’d love to see a Handley Page Heyford, possibly the weirdest looking RAF aircraft ever and quite attractive at the same time (to me it looks like someone’s built a Vickers Vimy but attached the fuselage under the upper wing instead
Looks good mate, by the way check your PM’s got a question for you
Cheers, Rob
Certainly was good weather, although my arms were stinging for days afterwards! (Really should have took up TT’s offer of suncream). Oh by the way, i’m the one that looks like a ginger smurf! 😀
The wingwalker uniform sure as hell beats Team Guinot’s attempt…
Amen to that! Clearly a higher standard of wingwalker selection too, in my opinion 😉
Gorgeous… (and not the legs!). Was really hoping to make it down to see the Beech 18 tomorrow but injured my leg earlier so can barely walk to the kitchen let alone wander around Booker all day
Message bags with streamers were still used in WW2 as well as radio – 656 Squadron who operated Austers in the far east in WW2 lost a fair few message bags with streamers to Commonwealth African troops.
When they were dropped near positions occupied by African troops and went back to retrieve them, the troops were reluctant to give them back because the bags with the streamers dangling down were placed at the entrances to tents as they were believed to ward off evil spirits!
Wot no Beech 18? 😀
Didn’t realise the Vulcan hangar was open, would have gone over and have a look myself. Are you two coming over again to the Lightning QRA day on the 22nd July? Hopefully the weather will be a lot better (that said, couldn’t have been much worse!)
Wow, the Whirlwind looks fantastic – looks great in those colours, will have to go along as soon as I get the chance to have a look, well done guys!
Cheers for the heads up about the free tickets (missed that bit!) looks like a cheap day out for me and the girlfriend/dad if she doesn’t fancy it. I’ll probably be wearing my new Beech Restorations shirt with my name on it blagging myself into the cockpit of something nice, so say hi if you see me
If he does own one, then it’s under someone elses name – had a quick search on the CAA database for his name and nothing came up. Unless, of course, it’s not registered in the UK
Here’s a few pics from the saturday off my camera phone (came out quite well I reckon), didn’t take any on sunday (after i’d filled up my camera memory card with the video clips, fingers were too numb with cold to change them!)

Naval Encounter

Volpar Beech

Two Beech’s together (is this the closest two Beech 18s have been in the UK since the three Beech 18s including Naval Encounter at were stored at Prestwick in the 70s?)

And last but not least, the guys making it all happen – Phil and Ade working on the SRA hangar (plus PT probably somewhere down there helping out)
Oh and by the way Ben, I liked the Beech Restorations inscription on the far end of the hangar door concrete standing 😀
