Didn’t get any photos of the Tipsy, sorry – thought it might look a bit odd me standing there taking a photo of it! There’s a photo of it here though

Sorry, couldn’t see inside the Canberra cockpit either, could be worth e-mailing the webmaster of the CNAM website to see what it’s like
Yep, that’s the same Hunter cockpit I described (didn’t notice that). No idea where it came from, apparently it’s the ex-Mick Jennings cockpit from Coltishall (cheers Dave T), so presumably it was at the museum until saturday, with the other coltishall collection cockpits. No idea where it went, it left when I was waiting for the taxi and later caught up with it heading towards Norwich, being towed by a silver 4×4 pickup.
A volunteer there about my age opened up the Herald for me, although we couldn’t get the rear door open so had to go through the front, the Fokker wasn’t open but i’m sure if you asked they’d be happy to open up.
Probably because of the station closing – the two Lightning cockpits on that webpage look to be the ones at Norwich as well
Found a photo of it on the demobbed aircraft site and spotted a Stalwart 6×6 amphibious truck behind, so asked on a military vehicle forum. Got this response, hope it’s of use
Rob,
Asked the question for you over on the Stalwart owners group and one of the guys there replied thus:
Quote
Neil, although the stally in the picture is not very clear I’m fairley certain that its STAL 38. I purchased the truck via e-bay in August 2005 from a chap in Westhoughton, Bolton. At the time he also had listed the helicopter, a Sopwith camel bi-plane, some vintage motorbikes, a jet engined single seat training air plane, two Winebago camper vans plus a few other wierd and wonderfull contraptions. His name is Doug Hacking and lives on a farm to the north of junction 5 of the M61 Motorway. When I went to see him the copter had already gone but he still had everthing else. Doug is a very well known dealer of motorcyles in the Bolton area. He sells stuff on e-bay and goes by the name of mrlaughalot, or something like that. He seemed like a nice chap although I could never get a straight answer to my questions about the Stalwart. . I don’t have Dougs number but
if your mate wants to contact him I suppose a search on google for “Doug Hacking motorcycles, Lancashire” should do the trick.I tried the google search and gave this result:
http://www.doughackingmotorcycles.co.uk/contact.htm
Not sure this is the answer you were looking for though!!!
I don’t know what the airfield is like at Gaydon, but it’s now home to a large car factory (land rovers I think), and also the British Motor Heritage Centre http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ (which is an alright museum but not a scratch on the car museum in Cov) – there’s at least one glass case with information on RAF Gaydon with aircraft of the type that served there etc
Nice, looks good in RN colours. What was her serial number in RN service? I always thought that the Bristows Whirlwinds were bought from new, obviously not!
Ah, knew I took a photo of the Phantom, here it is

Would definitely like to see the Whirly in early Bristows livery, off the top of my head all preserved Whirlwinds in civilian colours are in the later livery like it is at the minute
Didn’t modify the pictures at all – all I did with them was resize them so they were smaller. It takes alright outdoor shots but indoor stuff comes out dark. Will definitely come down again before too long, when I finally get some form of transport wouldn’t mind coming down and helping out if i’ve got the time.
Good to hear – will have a dig around and see what I can find
Yup, only the Auster 9 is on show, hanging from the roof (surprise surprise) – presumably the first Auster G-AGOH will go into storage with the other aircraft when it leaves Newark. Shame the county council doesn’t put them all on display somewhere
It’s in store at Snibston Discovery Park at Coalville here in Leicestershire, along with a Taylorcraft C plus 2 (the oldest Auster product) and an Auster Archer. Don’t have any photos of it in store but presumably it’s still in it’s (inaccurate) green/dark brown camouflage scheme
There’s a campaign to turn the ex-landing ship HMS Fearless into a floating museum, apparently it’s already been offered free berths at several places. No doubt there’d also be a few helicopters on the flight deck as well
Right then, I know someone who can get you 3800 bullets at 30p per bullet – he buys the bullets and the cartridge cases and clamps them together, so could also find the 200 bullet heads you need. Are you interested? I’ll be having a look at the bullets on Sunday so could get photos etc, I could look after the bullets till you are able to pick them up if it helps
Seeming as this has kicked up so much interest, is anyone interested in coming along to Bruntingthorpe once a week or so and helping out? As well as the Battle, there’s six other aircraft that need working on, and could really do with more hands down there as on most weekends there’s only 4/5. As well as getting hands on experience with WW2 aircraft that will be back in the air, it’s a good laugh as well
Ah right – didn’t read the first post properly. I know where to get plenty of bullets and cartridges but not the top ends
