I should be able to get you as many inert ones as you need (providing it’s the same standard .303 round the army used?) – PM me if you haven’t had any luck yet and i’ll be happy to help
By the way Moggy, I was pretty certain .303 bullets do have explosive in them, hence why it goes ‘bang’ when fired and shoots? Plus it’s a lot more dangerous to hit a live .303 with a hammer than an inert one!
Bah, i’m never there when the fun stuff happens! Must say there’s a lot more wing than I thought
It does, I wasn’t doubting that – I was just saying it’s not as good a replica as say the Assault Glider Projects example
There’s also one at the Pegasus Bridge museum in Normandy. Though I’m not sure of it’s origins.
That one was specially made for the museum in time for the 60th anniversary of D day – looks alright from a distance, but up close it’s not particularly impressive
You can find some on the Thunder and Lightnings airfield viewing guide here

As well as those, I know there’s a Whirlwind in camouflage at Odiham, may be something else there but only seen photos of the Whirly.
At Aeroventure the other day there was a german aircraft recognition poster (in the Royal Observer Corps bit I think) – they had the Messerschmitt 110 ‘Jaguar’ which seemed to be a nickname for it, possibly based on faulty intelligence (I think it also had the infamous Heinkel 112 on it as well)
Did you notice if the Whirlwind was in good condition?
Here’s the photos from Phantom Phixer

Ah cheers – how’s the Whirlwind coming along? Will definitely go along to see that when it’s finished. Great work you guys are doing at Cov, if only I had a bit more spare time and had transport to get there i’d be mucking in too. Maybe in a few months time, fingers crossed
So, what’s next for the A Team? The Whirlwind. Bit of a challange that will be.
The HAS.7 or the Whirlwind Series 3? Looked in good condition last time I was there, although haven’t seen inside since I was so small the inside looked as big as my house!
The one at Cosford? It was either in hangar one or hangar three with the warplanes – although for some reason I can’t find it on the website, so not sure if it’s on display anymore
You can walk through the Vulcan b1 nose which has been modified so you can walk through the radome as well. Think you can also sit in the Jet Provost in hangar two as well, at least you could last time I was there
Sounds good to me Martin! Haven’t been for about a year or so but each time I go always find something I haven’t seen before, plus the collection of aircraft is great. May be coming up in a few weeks time, but not certain about that at the minute.
Hey 1 group – the tank is a Cromwell (or a Centaur, same tank but re-engined). On a beach near Wells in Norfolk there’s a couple of similarly buried Vickers Mk VI light tanks
I’ll send an e-mail off to Leicestershire County Council later and see if there’s any plans for G-AGOH. Was e-mailed this earlier, so if anyone fancies a very nice Auster 6, now’s your chance!
