Happy Birthday everyone – must admit i’m buying myself a present this year, a car! (Insurance is cheaper when your 18 than when your 17)
Heh. There’s no defined date of the beginning….. Marcel Julian in his marvellous work on the battle says something like “for the Germans the Battle of Britain began in June, for the RAF it began in May” or something like that.
According to German historians, the battle ended in October 1941!
Totally scrapped, the nose wasn’t saved
Can’t imagine it being much use to many people – it says owners of Spitfires from the time of the Battle of Britain, so only the BBMF with the IIa and the owner(s) of Mk I AR213 will find it useful!
😀 If you pay to go in you can see one in the Land warfare hall, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mclaydon/ click on the landwarfare section,oh but of course you wont pay will you ,so you won’t:D
😀 😀 best post of the year!
611 Squadron, in 1948, was flying with Spitfires, replacing them with Meteors in 1951 and was disbanded in 1957, so theres a good chance he could have been moved to a Twin Pin when the squadron disbanded, although personally would have thought they would have kept him on fighters, unless he chose to fly transports/pilots were badly needed for transports
Found the other one on DamienB’s site ‘Thunder and Lightnings’ – http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/lightning/survivorspics2.html#XP706
Looks great, i’ll be there! Do Friends of Sywell Aerodrome get discount on tickets? (Knew that fiver would save me money in the long term :D) Also, are the Hurricane and Spitfire coming along the HAC one’s like pictured? Can’t wait to go, only been to one airshow before!
Giving those smelly pongos a shower!
PC probs at the museum at the moment so emails may not be read or responded to for some time – comments in the guestbook would be nice – other people can see them then too!
Cheers for the heads up, added an entry to the guestbook as well
Not sure what I am disturbed more about this thread 1) that the pinnacle of anoraking is trolley accs and their differences or 2) i wont be able to resist checking out ours at the weekend!
TT
You think thats bad? I’ve got an uncle in law that’s interested in toilets (hope it’s got nothing to do with a fetish with my auntie.. 😮 ), and a soon to be uncle in law that collects antique bottle openers!
Still have some of that set knocking around in a box, had them since i was a kid. saw the two t/a’s and a few on the figures about a week ago whilst searching for an old Jet Prov model. anyone know if these were used to crank up the JP T4?.
all the best.
Greg
Once saw a line of JP’s at Cosford with accumulators all being started up, not sure if they were all T5’s or if there were a few 4’s though. By the way, who makes a model of the T4?
Been speaking to loads of people all on NTL whos internet has gone funny, really annoying when your trying to get something off ebay

However, if you type in ‘b17 upper turret’ on google image search theres a picture of a turret exactly like yours being hosed down, half way down here http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/nyefoto.htm so who knows!
