Took me a while to find it as well actually, thought it was normally painted in a bigger size just before the fins etc on the tail?
Sounds like a good idea actually, would be useful in the Bomber Command hall and other places where the aircraft are crammed in. If it wasn’t for the light conditions getting a good pic of the Blenheim wouldn’t be that bad, especially with the upstairs gallery meaning you can get some good pics if your camera is set up properly, just about all of the aircraft in the Battle of Britain hall are in a good position for photos if the light is alright or you change the settings on the camera, especially from the overhead gallery if you’ve got a good zoom. I was quite happy with this pic I took from the overhead gallery of the Blenheim, bit dark but I like it
Of the FAST Sea Harrier? It’s ZA195, it says in white on the little fin thing under the tail
Cheers, i’ll try it out
Whoa, nice pics – I’m getting myself an SLR!
It should help, thing is with my digital camera it really doesn’t like indoors unless theres lots of natural light like the hangars at Duxford, lighting tends to make things look more orangey, perhaps using GeoffK’s advice here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=874629&postcount=4 it should be able to help. It is a really nice museum, I love the different atmosphere you get in different parts of the museum (The upstairs WWI and medals room have a quite weird 1970’s atmosphere to me, possibly because nothing up there seems to have changed since then).
If you ask me theres only two things that would make the museum better – get more staff in, and increase the light levels in the Bomber Command and Battle of Britain halls (well, maybe that’s three). In the Battle of Britain Hall I suppose it wouldn’t be too much to ask if they put the lighting on back to the same level it used to be (compare it to what it’s like on the Sunderland end of the hall!) between the shows.
Did I imagine it, or was it called the “Phallus” in the film?
Don’t know what version you saw, but could swear it was called the Oscar when I saw it!
Which one(s)? I know of three apart from the two at Hendon – two Mk II’s under restoration by Tempest Two Ltd, and a Mk V under restoration by Personal Plane Services in Buckinghamshire

You could ring them or something and see if they’ll give you an update
The first pic is of the first Blenheim IV to fly, G-MKIV that crashed in 1987 right? Can’t remember what state the second one G-BPIV was in when she crashed but I don’t think the nose was as bad as that!
Its nice to see another Sea Harrier being saved, just how many have ended up in museum’s ?
It seems like more than most people expected to be saved have been saved.
Off the top of my head for FA.2;
Midland Air Museum Coventry
Newark Air Museum
Two at Fleet Air Arm Museum
FAST (obviously :p )
One in private ownership (could be the guy that owns the pub that was going to have the Blackpool Vulcan)
Norfolk and Suffolk aviation museum (nose)
I think there’s one at Kemble as well, don’t know who owns it
I’ve seen a whole family been shown inside the OFMC’s Mustang at Duxford before, so could try them and ask about the Spitfire IX
Haha funnily enough my little brother is scared of it, he once refused to go because of it and the time after that he had to close his eyes, look the other way and hold his mums hand all through that bit! Even today he was walking past it pretty fast.
Went today actually, just got back, did get some good pics, hopefully be able to tidy them up on the computer in a bit, will upload them and post soon fingers crossed, including pics of trolley accs!
Shame to hear about that, personally I preferred the Battle of Britain hall before the show came in, not just because of the light conditions I think it looked better and had more atmosphere (too bad I can barely remember it now). Had an e-mail from the museum say if any parts are closed they should be able to open it for a short time but I won’t get my hopes up about it.
Seen those clips before – seem to me to be a bix of the two, the ones in the background and getting blown up seemed to be to be fake. Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but how come at least two of the surviving Pucara’s have part of the front nose missing? My guess is that it contains something removed for testing but don’t know why it wasn’t put back on (Believe the Cosford one had it’s front bit removed but now has it back on)
