Do any of the deleted scenes explain where the Dakota came from? Michael Caine asks but Captain Hook (the german eyepatch guy) changes the subject, always wondered where it did (obviously not real, but I always imagined it as coming from North Africa)
Don’t worry Camlobe, your points are as good as the others, will remember to include that in my work, as it’s a very important factor (will to survive etc), cheers, nearly overlooked that one!
From what I can remember (tries not to think too hard) the Storch was the one owned by the Hon Patrick Lindsay (G-AZMH), but then I may be wrong.
Martin
If it is G-AZMH, it was first registered on 20th January 1971, which means she was definitely around for the filming, apparently she’s now in Germany and off the list, it’s a Criquet with an Argus engine by the way, and very nice as well! By the way, does anyone else think Michael Caines accent in the movie is the worst German accent ever?!
For anyone interested, the ‘captured British MTB’ is a genuine Motor Torpedo Boat – the bridge and oerlikon 20mm gun on the front were fake though as well as a few other items to make her look like a more common MTB, as she was a prototype boat, her website is here http://www.mtb102.com/
Crikey, how many Venturas, and do you know what happened to them?
Strange, was about to ask this question myself, one of my favourite movies! Where were the Ju 52’s, on the Alderney airbase? Don’t remember seeing any
Cheers, this study is actually really enjoyable, learning more and more about the Battle of Britain. I’ll look out for the books you’ve mentioned (well, I won’t be the one paying for them – managed to persuade my parents I need them for the study). Never thought about the ASR service, will look into that one, as well as the other aircraft such as Blenheim, Gladiator etc, might be worth opening another thread into how effective these were as fighters in the Battle of Britain
And RLangham, you wouldn’t be a student of Leiceter univsersity would you?
Nope, in sixth form in Hinckley, about ten miles from Leicester, no plans for Uni though, probably RAF after my A levels. Had another extravagance the other day, really shouldn’t have as i’m pretty skint – box set of Series 1 and 2 of ‘The Mighty Boosh’ on dvd, hopefully they’ll have arrived by the time I get home, fingers crossed!

Am I the only one that confused the Falco with the much better looking Fiat Cr.32 used in the Spanish Civil War until they saw the photos?
The Fiat CR42 Falco was one of the last biplane fighters, some info on them here http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/falco.htm there’s a nice one in the RAF Museum, in the Battle of Britain hall
From what I know, Enigma was’t captured until after the Battle of Britain, and wouldn’t have been useful for getting information on enemy raids, mainly used for finding out positions of U boat wolf packs and ships of the Kriegsmarine, haven’t heard of anything to do with it and the Battle of Britain will have a look though and see if I can find anything to do with it.
Fighter Boys – Patrick Bishop, about the Battle of Britain – so far it’s the only book i’ve read for school work that i’ve enjoyed!
