I know it’s not an aircraft project but I think the marvellous restoration of Stow Maries to its WW1 status deserves mention. It has already received some “old’uns” and no doubt when it is finished there will be a WW1 fly-in to celebrate!!
There’s already a fly-in on 8th May which should feature several WW1 type – see you there if you can make it
.
Unfortunately not intended to be flying replica’s but instead museum full scale mock-ups, the Qantas Founders Museum have active plans to create a full size mockup of the DH-86 Express, and even more impressive is a Shorts Empire! Flying Boat!Regards

There’s also one being built in Scotland, there was a photo in last month’s Flypast or Aeroplane showing a large hull piece, Strathclyde aviation society? Or similar
Unfortunately the Blue Swallow ones are no good for a WW1 Sidcot which is what i’m currently after – working on a couple of possible sources for a highly accurate repro of a WW1 one though
I’d be very much interested in contacting the HP O/400 project Bob T, i’m close to Herts as well and currently working on a book on the Handley Pages.
As well as the Dolphin at the RAFM, there’s also a Farman (F.40?) and the LVG C.VI that used to fly at Shuttleworth
The DH9A project sounds exciting too, as does the Sywell SE5a
I received my two wristbands in the post yesterday – they really are very, very good, high quality and look fantastic and look fashionable too. If you’re not sure whether to buy one or not, just get one, a great cause
There were also rumours/announcements for a Handley Page O/100 or O/400 a while back – now that would be something! A Short 184 would be fantastic, a very important WW1 type
WOW! The inside of the Watchtower and factory building looks superb
Not for a few years at least! Would be nice to one day though
Many thanks all – that Gotha page is absolutely perfect, will have to try and get a copy of that book, much appreciated
Cheers, Rob
Never flown one or been near one with the engine running, but surely a rotary engine would be extremely smooth on the rest of the aircraft ie lack of vibrations especially once airborne, as the whole thing is turning around with the propellor
Really, really looking forward to seeing the DH9
Plenty of re-enactors in Australia, just like pretty much every other country in the world!
So, reading that correctly, if you don’t book in advance and go on the day, you pay £20 for parking off-site, £3 for the park and ride and then £5 entry? So for two adults that’s £36
Curtains in the wheels? Corr
London would be pretty sweet again, especially with the Olympics going on at the same time.
I did see a report a while ago that Plane Stupid reckoned the short runway built for the London Red Bull Air Race was part of a secret plot by LCY to develop a second runway! This report was several years AFTER the race…..
