Great story. Thanks for posting. Always been fascinated by the story of the women pilots of the ATA. I’ve read ‘The Forgotten Pilots’ by Lettice Curtis 3 or 4 times and its always a good read.

Thanks for the Auster pics David. I recall the Agricola from Farnborough 195???. What a beast!

Thanks Argonaut, I have greatly enjoyed your postings over the past few weeks. Brought back happy memories of my first visit to Heathrow in 1958 when I saw many of the airliners featured in your post for the first time.
You will no doubt be happy to learn that our North Star (alas, not an Argonaut) is returning to good health here in Canada thanks to Project North Star. The cockpit and most of the inside has been renovated, and 3 of the powerplant assemblies. The windows are to be refurbished this summer.
Best Regards

It looks as though it’s had a lick of paint too. Now wearing 440 squadron codes as 18-T
I saw the Typhoon last week in Ottawa, in the Restoration shop of the Canada Aircraft and Space Museum. I think it went on display today. Looks Fantastic ! A ‘Thankyou’ to RAFM.

What a glorious sight!
Agreed. Beautiful aeroplanes all lovingly cared for, and a few we don’t often see pics of. Thanks for sharing

The two good things to come out of Gosport, Flying Training and the A32……
Lived there for 6 years while doing an apprenticeship at Fleetlands. Loved the place. Would happily go back there to live now.
Great pictures again, David. Thankyou.
Love the Pup. I presume those are le Prieur rockets. There better not be any Zeppelins stooging around Bedfordshire this Summer.
Best regards
Bill
And how many is there left, a round dozen?
Some great articles on the VWofC site

Does anyone remember the Forrestal visiting Southampton, 1957 I think. I stood in the line up to board her for hours in the rain but alas didn’t make it. HMS Ark Royal was berthed along side her and looked tiny in comparison.
USS Forrestal had a full complement of aircraft. I have some ol B&W photos now badly faded taken from the dock which shows Furies and Demons on the flight deck. Any pictures from the visit out there?
Regards
Bill
R.I.P. Sir. Always enjoyed his magazine pieces.
