I really don’t know where they got that from ba i wolud’nt think be that nasty becasue T5 is being bulit to accomodate the A380, anyway ba have got terminals t1 t2 t3 t4 and that has’nt been a hasle for them, i could never think of ba being selfish to outher airlines
Looking at the plans for T5, I’m not convinced that it provides enough stand capacity for the whole of BA’s operation, let alone any other airline.
Airline Owner…I agree, I’m not looking forward to it one bit! It took me over a year to know where all the airlines operated from, so God only knows what the next five years are going to be like!!!

The new car park by T3 will replace the existing one, which will be knocked down and T3 extended over it.
Both runways can handle the 380, but only some areas of taxiway between 27L/09R and the central area.
We’ve been told April, and also that it hasn’t received UK certification yet.
Wozza,
can I ask what “fundamental flaws within the UK air traffic control system” it showed?
And as to showing “the public the extent of the dangers present.”, you never know, maybe a TV programme will be made to show the public what would happen if at a pedestrian road crossing the lights failed and showed green to both crossing pedestrians and the cars! Oh my God! Do people know they risk virtual certain death every day? 😉 😀
This will be a most interesting programme to watch. Rumours abound that a sacked ATCO will feature.
There isn’t enough ramp space in any terminal! The official reason was the connecting passenger issue. Some flights have up to 80-90% connecting pax. The move has actually made T4 more congested, because a lot of ex-T1 shorthaul flights moved in the opposite direction.
Hiddeneurope,
Thanks for your reply. I wondered if the Isle of Man aspect might have an impact.
I’m fully aware of the need for airlines to keep using their runway slots, in fact I often felt sorry for the Flightline 146 crews that operated the QANTAS service, as they often used to get delayed because of the carnage that is T4!
I was under the impression that there was an obligation on the part of the organisation who has been given CAA approval for a scheduled flight to operate a certain proportion of those flights (ie. the flight has to operate empty, if nobody books). Can anyone confirm?
I’m not sure the reason we went single runway a few days ago, but this time of year we sometimes have to close one runway for a hour or two at a time for de-icing.
Single runway is fine, mixed mode is a step too far for LHR’s infrastucture and legal restrictions.
As LHR exists at the moment, there’s no way mixed mode will work.
Well, it might work for twenty minutes, but then the whole airfield will grind to a halt!
