Shocking admissions of guilt there Andy! I was sorely tempted at Manston last summer where there is an open cockpit Tornado out the back of the Museum. Seemed a shame to let mag ally sticks suffer like that in the open air but I must have been better brought up than you… Nice yoke Steve, I trust it was cheaper than the similar Prince one here: http://spitfirespares.co.uk/controls.html. There was a button assembly on ebay a while back but it was almost certainly for the wrong side. Dangerous game, starting on yokes as well as sticks. No good will come of it!
Always worth keeping an eye out, Anon! Very nice and would grace any Battle of Britain panel display. Air Britain has NC425 as a Wellington X delivered between June and December 44 by Vickers Armstrongs Squires Gate. Served with 2 Air Navigation School and struck off charge 23/2/50.
Hello Winny, this French site has a Mirage III panel for sale, but not cheap! good luck.

A Browning, but not off a Spit. I’m surprised it hasn’t been pulled by ebay yet.
Lets hope the weather holds, a day like today would be perfect. I’m going to bring a couple of panels. Quite fancy a go in a helicopter to!
A trip to Duxford with a tape measure would be a good start, the Typhoon cockpit section is very accessible. Here are some pics from a fortnight ago. My head nearly exploded with looking! There was a tape measure on the seat marked ‘Hornby Hobbies’, I wonder if Airfix will be doing a big Typhoon? Good luck with your project, the RAF were very thorough clearing up Tiffies, not much to find!
Hello Vincent. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website has these details:
MALONEY, TERENCE JOSEPH WILLIAM Sergeant 629358 died 04/07/1940 age 18 Royal Air Force United Kingdom
Sec. H. Grave 1317. MORDEN CEMETERY
Not quite as your details but hope this helps.
AR403 was a MkV Spit, the prop blades in the BBC photo look like DeHavilland metal blades from a Mk1. Checking CWGC Sgt Malcomb Robertson, named in the article is listed as buried Sec. E. Grave 219. GLASGOW (CRAIGTON) CEMETERY. Pure speculation but could the wrong aircraft have been excavated?
I try and save ebay pics but they have changed the format and they don’t copy well, you just get a web address. I had a look last night but couldn’t find a saved pic sorry.
The pedals certainly aren’t, I think they’re off an Andover!
One of the great joys of teaching DT. To hold aloft a piece of timber and ask ‘Right, has everyone got wood?’ Nice piece.
Very nice grip Steve, I hope you got a good deal! There was a Mk4 (?) grip on t’ebay a while back, supported by a scan from the pilot’s notes to prove it wasn’t Hunter which was my first thought. It had nice yellow hazard stipes on one of the covers went for quite a bit. My much more battered grip has AC14323 on the casting and AC14284 on the label, it’s supposed to be from scrapped gate guardian XA801 and looks like it spent a good few years under a leaky hood. you found a lovely cockpit pic there.
Indeed, lovely work. Is the gun button original? If not it’s much better than the repros most people are selling.
Thanks Dobbins, I should have added aromatic. It stank of fuel! Wyvernfan, it would have made an amazing display put back together. The ‘light’ distortion would be a challenge but with lots of space and an imaginative frame it would look superb, pretty much everything was there. I don’t think anything spectacular would be reburied, but every piece has some merit.
Were photos allowed, Andy? Can you post them!
