A good program but made for BBC Northern Ireland. Can’t see it being shown on the mainland any time soon unfortunately.

Popham was a good end to the bank holiday weekend, if a little moist and ‘chilly’. Some bargains to be had and the odd item to lust over. I’m hoping this flat bottom edged Meteor panel is a fighter version to sit next to the T7. Much grime to be moved looking for a serial, which is half the fun.
Looking forward to that. The coverage of the dig in the Dig WW2 BBC book was a bit thin.
Cheers Pagen, that’s exactly it! I’ll look out for an intact one but thanks very much for the offer. Just missed a 700kt one from the same vendor, listed under antique books! It’s going to take a while to get right. Tiny gyros then Tony? I’m used to big brass air powered wartime ones! And yes Richard, just couldn’t leave it alone…
Ah Pagen, that was me wild guessing! I bought something that ‘looked’ like a Sea Vixen AI for my slowly expanding project. It’s a 6A/6582 so wrong then? I’m going by photos rather than AP at the moment, in fact the mystery item came with a 500 Kt ASI, (right pattern, wrong scale) to fill the hole. Looking more closely at ‘Cockpits of the Cold War’ I can see how wrong I am!
Couldn’t resist having a little furkle. No gyros! Not a lot of anything really. The screws do have holes for lock wire so aircraft still a possibility. Comparing it to a Sea Vixen attitude indicator, code is KAJ 0202. The mystery one is ref No. KAJ 0101. The gauzes are the same to.
Definitely too flimsy/inaccurate and too complicated for pilot’s panel. Anon suggested LSO aid as well, but pointed out the problem of data transfer between plane and deck. Are there any decent books on RN Skyraiders? For you Richard, a cheeky glimpse of the rear. The stamp if HP206 and there are two gauzes which suggests air.
This should be a bit clearer, Richard. The little window says ‘off’ and the central needle moves horizontally.
Thanks for all the input everyone. If it was something from the bowels of a Skyraider that would be very pleasing indeed as I could sit it next to my grip. I ran through the possible carrier options as well, before crying for help here. RN Skyraider interior pics are quite thin on the ground. The simulator idea is still good, as Moggy C says, why confuse a flying pilot with two dials. They could help if planning to drop something though I suppose. Bothering Smiths does seem the best option now though.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Flight sim seems most plausible so far. I think the broad arrow rules out airliners. Gloucester isn’t too far away so could be worth a bother. Would be interested to see inside the back of a RN Skyraider which would be around the right age. As a final confusion, the stores label has ‘Strathallan 4 Sept 77’ on the back. Moved to the collection?
It’s going to be a challenge to find out! The tail does have a certain Wyvern quality. The low serial could well mean test equipment and that’ll make it really difficult to pin down.
Thanks for asking Pagen, much appreciated. Can’t see why a sub would have aircraft profiles on a gauge, unless they were hunting sea planes. Kelvin and Hughes has been absorbed into Smiths so that could be a very tenuous link. The gauge can live on my shelf, in a Bagpuss style.
A couple of nights in Lyme Regis then Popham wards. Dinner at Heston Blumethal’s Little Thief then a shamefully early morning to see people walking around with even earlier bargains. And admiring your stuff of course, AM. The perfect bank holiday weekend.
Cheers Pagen, that’s very good of you. There could be something in the carrier experience exhibit, though my eyes glaze over with all that ship interior and no planes!
