arms aid to israel is really a internal subsidy for the american mil-industrial complex. all aid must be spent by buying american goods and services, so the money never leaves US shores…it goes to lockheed , grumann et al.
That is not true when it comes to Israel. Israel is the only country which is ‘allowed’ to spend somewhere over 20% of it’s ‘aid’ on it’s own industry.
It’s a tradition, drenching pilots after their first solo flights in an aircraft type.
Thanks mate I had no idea they did this so damn close to the a/c though.
The IDF/AF reportedly deploys some Jericho I/II IRBM’s at it’s Beit Zachariah facility which is supposed to contain many underground facilities to house the missiles.

Wonderful stuff Arthur!
It’s clear that nations like Taiwan and Israel would seek to address the issue they have with the amount of ‘strategic depth’ (or lack there of) with underground hangars etc.
Here’s a nice peice on Taiwan’s largest underground airbase facility.

Taiwan Air Defense
The London Times (Oliver August, “SECRET WORLD THAT GUARDS TAIWAN,” Hualien, 5/23/01) reported that the Jiashan airbase is Taiwan’s most sensitive defense installation where more than 120 fighter jets are hidden inside a mountain to foil PRC attackers. Underground flight crews arm and fuel the jets before they fly out of the hillside protected by anti-aircraft guns. On their return, the planes touch down on a shortened runway along the tunnel entrance before disappearing into the caves again. Taiwan’s military regards Jiashan as its last line of defense against a PRC invasion.
The caves are buried under hundreds of feet of granite and the steel doors at the end of the tunnels apparently can withstand nuclear blasts. Arthur Ding, of the Institute of International Relations, “The mountains around Hualien are so steep that any incoming missile would have a trajectory problem. After flying horizontally across the Taiwan Strait the missile would have to clear the top of the mountain and then immediately drop straight down to hit the base.”
Military planners assume that after a strike by the PRC, Taiwan’s fighter jets would still be able to take off unharmed. Ding said, “After the first wave we have the capability to counter-attack.” Jiashan was built eight years ago and has room for a third of Taiwan’s Air Force, including US-made F16 jets.
The Taiwanese government is planning a huge expansion of underground air shelters near the island’s east coast. Sean Boyne of Jane’s Intelligence Review stated, “There are a number of others under construction, due for completion by 2003.” Like Jiashan, they may include hospitals and command centers as well as space for munitions and parts.
The first new base at Chih-hang was completed in January. Boyne said, “In time of war Taiwan would move combat aircraft from vulnerable sectors on the west coast–the side facing China–to these shelters.” Taiwan’s Defense Minister Wu Shih-wen confirmed the expansion drive, saying, “We need to extend our underground shelters and make them even more resistant to attack.”

What a shame. I was hoping to see some more information on this topic as bunkers and other underground facilities are of huge interest to me.
Shame….
Edwards AFB I believe.

hahahaha it’s not Ron (your not the first person to say that though!).
It’s a skit from Saturday Night Live. The actor is doing a funny of the capture of that Sheik Mohammed guy. 😀 😀

Is this customary or is he an NFL coach?
That is a very tough question and the more I look at the Rafale the more I like it.

Beautiful jets? Look no further than the M2000….

**** the international laws, if someone doesnt follow them, then why should anyone?
And I suppose you take the same attitude with regards to the laws of whatecer country you reside in? You must be posting from a federal computer then I guess.
Laws are a leg on which society and civilization stand on.
The West Bank and Gaza Strip don’t legally belong to anyone. Even UN resolutions 242 and 338 recognize that the 1967 borders are negotiable and that Israel is not actually obligated to unilaterally withdraw to these borders, but to borders agreed upon in the framework of a negotiated agreement.
Allow me if I may.
Skythe, either the West Bank and Gaza have been annexed by Israel, at which point Israel has some very serious things to explain like why a part of it’s population has been denied the right of movement, the right to vote, etc etc, OR it is not Israeli land and thus an occupied territory at which point Israel has to withdraw immediately and explain why it’s military has occupied a foreign land and peoples since 1967.
One cannot have the W.Bank and Gaza in perpetual ‘pergatory’ because Israel doesn’t like admitting it has been annexed (and thus granting them full rights) or that it is an occupying force.
Can you provide some evidence to suggest that Israel, at any point following the initial phases of the war, actually contemplated the use of nuclear weapons against Egypt
It is well known that Israel planned to at least threaten the use of nuclear weapons to help expediate American re-supply.
And have we forgotten that the M2000 could very well be THE sexiest bird around?

These are some of the new blk 52+’s. If you like sparkling clean birds, then save these to your hard drives because this is about as clean as they’re ever gonna be.
