I did run into a pilot in his mid-twenties that was beginning his airline career about the same time as I was. We were comparing flight time and background and it turns out that he had 100 hours of B-24 time. His dad or someone got him into the right seat of the B-24 during flights between different events. Pretty cool albeit immensely rare to see a young pilot being mentored as he was.

That is the way it should be for both the private owner as well as those organizations that operate them. These groups don’t fall under any regulation that actually requires them to maintain any sort of proficency. You could go do your 3 touch and goes in a Piper Cub and be qualified in the eyes of the FAA to fly a P-51 or P-47.

One issue that seperates the private owner from an organizational owner is the private owners are under more scrutiny of the insurance folks. They have to do more to prove their reliability to fly such equipment and maintain proficiency or pay a hefty premium. No pilot operating as a part of an organization seems too concerned about their insurance premium as it’s not coming out of his pocket.

As these tight knit groups become tighter and tighter and smaller and smaller the chances of historic aviation surviving for future generations becomes tough.

Yes to a certain extent I think that heavily relying on migrant workers does nothing to boost your GNP. Yes, I think that if approached properly that a lot of those jobs could either be eliminated by technology or replaced with US citizens.

I think those that use them as labor are just as responsible for the deterioration of the economy. Locking down the border to the illegal aliens or increasing the penalties for using them would curb this issue. Those millions of $$ are leaving our country not to be returned in trade thanks to the employment of those aliens. At least if they were taxed it would help offset the expense of impact in our health system.

With our own unemployment issues why should we farm our jobs out to people who aren’t even here legally let alone a citizen? You can’t fix the internal economic issues of a country by expecting another country to give your citizens free health care and access to their jobs.

No Mexican should make up any portion of our national work force. Our work force should be completely made up of Americans. Become a citizen and the jobs and the other benefits will be yours. Until your paying taxes you don’t get the programs they pay for. Simple as that.

To be president you have to be US born so he’ll never get to the Oval Office but he might become governor. Hey we already had Jesse “The Body” Ventura as governor of Minnesota who was a professional wrestler and in the movie Preditor with Arnold.

What’s your definition of hot in the UK? I haven’t heard of an airport delaying operations due to heat here in the US before. The worst was landing at an airport where the reported temperature was 38 degrees C (100 degrees F). The temperature on the ramp had to be 41-42 degrees. It was HOT. Thankfully this summer hasn’t been to hot here with temperatures no higher than 32 C for the most part.

The rules haven’t been loosened that much here in the US, metal knives are still out of the question.

A few years ago a woman here in the US who has a weekly column and who is on record as having the highest IQ in the world or something was given the question “are multi-engine aircraft more safe?” We’ll she made the ignorant assumption that all the engines must be working in order to fly so rather than multiply the failure rate she added them together and declared a single engine aircraft safer than a 4 engine 747. She received letters from irrate pilots trying to explain the err of her ways but she was sure she was correct. Just goes to show that IQ doesn’t mean anything. 😉

MoggyC, sorry but nothing is making you participate. I rather enjoy bouncing thoughts/ideas back and forth with GarryB. If a thread doesn’t suit you, move on, don’t tell those involved to stop just because you aren’t happy with it.

I guess I missed it too Mike. Students are at the most risk due to the types of flying that they do and the amount of time they have under their belt. I think that is them main reason why they should be exposed to it and confortable with spin recovery.
