    What was “poor” about it?

I saw the Sea Vixen at the Goodwood FoS a while ago and it was mighty impressive (and noisier than I remembered). Luckily, the weather was dull and the colour scheme wan’t obvious.

Unfortunately, planes like the Sea Vixen don’t ring any bells for thr non-aviation public mainly because it had a very quiet active combat career.

I have a rather tatty copy of the US paperback version of Braham’s autobiography. I’ve had it since I was ten (38 years) so it’s beginning to get very fragile (as paperbacks often do).

There was also a potted biography of Braham in the 1970s part work “Wings”, which I also have.

    Braham died in 1974.

I wouldn’t have fancied being a passenger in the R101. It was a disastrously badly built machine. The R100 and Hindenburg were pretty capable airships. Unfortunately, The R100 was scrapped when it didn’t really need to be and the Hindenburg fell foul of US restrictions on the sale of helium gas to Germany.

What about using the portable Armstrong Whitworth Cannonette as demonstrated in the final episode of “Black Adder the 3rd” – my favourite duelling scene ever?

That’s the last time I’m flying “Air India”.

Are the noses gone for refurbishment then?

It is getting rather crowded outside now. Maybe they do need to thin out the collection and concentrate on RAE/DRA/DERA related exhibits.

The TV movie “Family Flight” is very similar in aspects to talk down. NOt a bad film either – once you get past the usual Hollywood “personal angst” mush.
