To every member of Bomber command, I hold out my hand and say thank you for my freedom, for my chance to say what I think without worry of persicution and for my families life.
They carried out orders, Bomber Harris was as much a tool in the politicians hands as the aircrews, he was only doing the bidding of the leaders.
What have we learned from this – Nothing.
Iraq, Afganistan etc.
Thank you RAF Bomber Command. God bless you all.
Slightly old news, but I haven’t seen it posted elsewhere, the SAA ‘Shack’ flew last Friday, and magnificent it looked!
Some good pictures here.
What a great sight. Its time we got one of those flying back here in England.
Shack in general, but the powers that be would never allow it……
sad gits……….
Bill (Cherry) Vale.
Gladiator, Hurricane etc. Flew on Malta. He was an “ACE” and had no fear of authority. He tried to ground Bader, although he wouldn’t go in to any detail.
Bill was a general handiman working at an aero engine componant factory with my dad. Unfortunatly he died in a car accident in the 70s.
Others.
Dizzy Addicott. WWII Mossi pilot, Vickers test pilot, display pilot and good friend.
Ray Hanna.
Hoof Proudfoot.
Colin Patterson. BBMF Lancaster captain, he let me fly the Lanc from Jersey back to Coningsby. Top bloke.
Thats my choice. It was hard though.
Guess you are off the hook then. 😀 Sent any of your nice 80s photos in though?
I never thought of that.
I did post some photo’s on this ere forum not to long ago, along with some of Corsairs and P47 threads.
What did YOU do for the BBMF? 😀
I worked there for 4 and a bit years in the 80s
Form this month’s Scramble Magazine,
Does anyone know when the monument was originally going to be unveiled, I believed it was August 2005, the height of the Battle.
Can we get nothing right? Thank heavens these brave men that we are remembering on this memorial didn’t turn round and say ‘no sorry, guv’ can’t go up today, I’ve got an appointment elsewhere’!
I think she maybe to busy apologising for the last ice age, The death of christ, Roman invasions in and around europe, The Norman conquest, Black death, The battles in the Crimea, The Brittish empire, WW I, WW II, The holocaust, Korian war, Vietnam and any other war or disaster from around the
World. President Blair is a bit busy as well, he cant find the corner piece for his Noddy jigsaw.
Sadly not, the guy rolling behind the wing was an ‘ex-deck crew’ and I seem to remember that another was killed. I have seen this one before, perhaps Spitfire at War 1
MH
Thanks for the correction, I could only go by what Jack told me back in 96. Mind you, as he said, its a bloody long time ago. I have to be honest, I’m surprised no more lost thier lives, it looks quite busy at the back of the fwd Seafire.
It seems a shame to miss these
Decided to push this back up in case some of you miss them 😉
Great stuff….always nice to see new pics of Corsairs in action (and others)…anyone hurt in the Seafire prang?
Mark
Only the pilots ego. Carrier deck crew are very agile…
No worries, have you seen the P47 photo’s on the other thread
Good looking b—–d am I not !!!!
The last few for today
The last few. There are 2 photo’s taken in 1996 of Jack Collings when he visited Duxford, I showed him around the OFMC hanger where I worked at the time.
In all honesty, I would love to work on these aeroplanes and I probably meet your requirements regarding experience. I’ve worked historic, ie, 1940s – 50s radial and inline V engines for the last 18 years.
But sadly the location and my family home just would not work. I’ve had enough of working away from home, and my family have settled where we are now, Kids and school you know how it is.
Good luck with the search for guys to work the fleet.
OOOPSS. cant say that anymore, should be guys an girls. Politicaly correct B—–ks. I’m not pc either.
Yes, but I live in Cambridge and the money in real aviation dont add up to much sadly.
I’ve been honest and answered the question. I hope you do get some enquiries, you have a good fleet, and they need looking after.
May I ask where and when? (and please don’t just say “yes” or “no”!)
Lancaster NX611, Hullavington in 1970, I think. The others are Duxford and Finningley in 1976 -77.
