You will need some very big marshmellows!:D think the last time I saw 458 was at the 50th? not sure. anyway here is a picture from the day, of two fantastic gents, doing what they did best. Brian Carol (in the left seat) a lightning God, and Jimmy Dell, another Lightning legend. Something never to be seen again, but what a great memory..

Heres the old girl back in 2005 I think it was, at the 50th, two Lightning legends, Jimmi dell and Brian Carrol comparing notes.Sadly, it turned out to be the last time either Brian or Jimmi would go down the runway. I think between them that day there was something like 5500 Lightning hours! impressive. It was a memorable day indeed.

just waiting to hear back from ground support team at RIAT this morning to see if tommorow will go ahead, however if you can rely on anyone to screw it up royally for the rest of the weekend, it will be plod!. Last years 5 hour traffic foul up was entirely their doing by over reacting.

The most alarming Avpin starting story ive heard was for recalcitrant Hunters & Canberras.

walk up to intake of choice with bucket of Avpin and heave it down the intake, followed by second erk holding a long stick with a burning rag on the end sticking said burning end into the intake to light it!

i do recall that a third erk was usually on standby with a fire cart for when burning Avpin came pouring out the back!

I find that hard to believe. Avpin detonates at something like 7 Km per second, if you threw a bucket of avpin down the intake, there would be nothing left in short order, including the bloke with the fire cart, the bloke with the burning rag, the bloke with the bucket or anything within a hundred feet all around.

The Sony Alpha’s capable of some very good results, you just have to look at Pen Pusher’s photos to see that. The only downside at present is that you may not have quite the same choice of lenses.

that couldnt be further from the truth. There is a myriad of kit for the A200, since Sony very smartly retained the minolta and Konica lens system, which means the a200 is compatible with every single minolta and Konica lens ever built, right back to the early eighties, and there is a huge choice of them on ebay. You can even get an underwater kit for the camera. The other big advantage is that the image stabilization is built into the body, which means if you buy any old lenses, you still have stabilisation.

dont be tempted to mess with the squibs themselves! disconnect 28v cores to the squibs, and remove the bottles, but don’t play with the squibs themselves. Although the bottles are old, they probably still have enough charge left to discharge MB everywhere, and that stuff will mess you up. Best thing you can do, once the bottles are out, is weigh them to establish if they are full or not. I know you are not putting 28v dc on yet, but pull the fire fuses anyway, as there is no need to ever put them back in.

he he, geoff’s starting to get a southern US twang to his voice, hes out there so often:p getting wet. ha good one, thats guaranteed I rekon. I hope those southern bells like “Eau de Jet a1”

Hi peter, Ive heard that before somewhere about 422, but 422 has loads of hours left, she only had 2200 on her when she retired at Boscombe down, and never led much of hard life with the OCU’s, before boscombe.

Ditto, progress is very much budget driven in an ever tightning US climate. Leccies have literally just retuned from a trip, heavies leave tommorow for USA, lecies then return June, whilst heavies return again in a few months. everyone is very busy. When not in Stennis, black box and instrument refurbs continue here in UK. The southern UK electro mechanical team (Avionic/fuel MU) are also up to our eyeballs in Zf579, which serves as a slave test bed for some of the Black box, along with XS458 for T5. The Northern UK team (insti and mech MU) are similarly busy with cockpit systems in Binbrook/grimsby, whilst Egress progress is driven from Warton and New Zealand.

320 only “enough” things to do at home? pfft Lightnings, utter rubbish:D

I doubt you will see her flying any time soon. I think you will find that she is not top of the priority list right now, since the mod contracts take precedence, they bring in the money.
