There is still no hard data posted yet. None. And the bit of data we do have (height) shows that the Pak Fa is smaller. I don’t even know where Wikipedia is measuring the height. Just eyeballing it, the Pak Fa looks smaller too.

The Raptor has to accommodate full size inward pointing S ducts.

for size, som eone made this pretty accurate comparison.
the j-20 is close in size to the flanker. this was confirmed in sattelite photos when quantam fx saw it was exactly the same size to the su-33 clone

    https://i1.wp.com/su-27flanker.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/j-20-image34.jpg

pak-fa should be a little bit larger than the f-22, but smaller than the pak-fa and flanker.

Thinking of the techno-political aspects of this deal (Turkey needs technology input from an acceptable foreign country), I can believe something could come of this. UK would probably like the option of ordering a non-F35 “strings-free” stealth aircraft in a decade or so. However, is 100 million or so a real commitment to harnessing BaE Systems? How serious is Turkey’s TF-X Turkish fighter program?

I called it some time ago.. TF-X will end up basically being a mid-weight stealth aircraft with Eurofighter guts.

I think it’s more apparent for the UK to do it with out the EU or US, now that May and Trump seemed to disagree on foreign policy.

    Continuing from the LCA thread,

anyone else know how a hypothetical naval PAK FA could arrange its tailhook? Either extending the tailsting to allow for a tailhook to be established but that wouldn’t be optimal for landing characteristics, or as obligatory suggests, a collapsible tailhook but I’m not sure if such a configuration has been demonstrated in the past.

there were some planes that used two wing hooks instead of one on the fueselage

The M-346 is as good as gone…

Raytheon can’t do it alone, they got no plane.

Aermacchi/Leonardo/Rafale/Michaelangelo/orwhatevertheycallthemselves now won’t win because they’re not American. Trump won’t certainly accept it. he’d be like “we’re not spending a single American tax dollars on aircraft made by illegal super marios”

It’s too bad, because it was the most mature choice.

KAI-Lockheed is also as good as gone, he don’t like Asians

Boink-Saab may not get it. Boink supports the democrat party and were big contributors to Obama. Also the Saab aspect may make Trump think “not a single penny to the Swedes, they already rip us off with poor HM clothes that deteriorate and make good US businesses like GAP and F21 bankrupt”. if hilldog won then they would have won

Northrop will win. They supported Trump. Design might be cheaper. Pure American

I’m not here to knock any of the three mentioned; MiG-35, Su-30SM, and Su-35S. It’s pretty obvious that Su-30SM is the most mature of the three. That cannot be disputed, because unlike the other two, it’s been operational substantially longer. And for all around utility, Su-30SM is currently the only proven model of the three. Technology flaws and all.

    yep i agree
Su-35S is a newer technologically higher potential aircraft. But for exports Su-30SM/MKI is a better choice. It’s a more developed and multi-role plane and with India making more service centers.. you have more options for support, which was a problem for some Russian jets.

I dont think J-20 is intended to be a dogfighter either. But RCS wise, i think it would be good. In term of shaping i think J-20 got a stealthier design than PAK-FA, at least from frontal or underneath. The side aspect of J-20 seem quite stealthy as well even when compared to F-35. With that being said, stealth is a combination of RAM and shaping, and i dont know how good the RAM of J-20 is, could it be comparable to Russian and US counterpart? may be, may be not. But overall, the only disappointing aspect of J-20 to me is the very small weapon bays.

    thanks.
btw you gotta avoid the Haarvalalala
he just likes to make anti-f35 posts. stuff far worse than x vs y aircraft threads since he’s biased from the beginning.

hey mig-31, since we’re on the topic of stealth design and acceptable rcs,,

what do you think of this article on the j-20
    http://www.businessinsider.com/the-real-purpose-behind-chinas-mysterious-j-20-combat-jet-2017-1?r=UK&IR=T&IR=T

    it mentioned

Davis characterized the J-20 as “high-speed, long-range, not quite as stealthy (as US fifth-gen aircraft), but [the Chinese] clearly don’t see that as important.” According to Davis, the J-20 is “not a fighter, but an interceptor and a strike aircraft” that doesn’t seek to contend with US jets in air-to-air battles. Instead, “the Chinese are recognizing they can attack critical airborne support systems like AWACS (airborne early warning and control systems) and refueling planes so they can’t do their job,” Davis said. “If you can force the tankers back, then the F-35s and other platforms aren’t sufficient because they can’t reach their target.”

“The J-20, in particular, is different than the F-22 in the context that, if you take a look and analyze the design, it may have some significant low-observable capabilities on the front end, but not all aspects — nor is it built as a dogfighter,” Deptula said. “But quite frankly, the biggest concern is its design to carry long-range weapons.”

What the J-20 lacks in stealth and dogfighting ability it makes up for by focusing on a single, comparatively soft type of target. Unlike the US, which has fielded extremely stealthy aircraft, China lacks the experience to create a plane that baffles radars from all angles.

Funny that Indonesia should want to buy such a terrible aircraft:rolleyes:

Wonder what Hotdog will have to say on the subject.

India’s aircraft procurement is retarded, but Indonesia’s one makes India’s seem sane.

Buy some small amounts of F-16s, and Hawks, and F-5s, and some Su-30s with no missiles, and maybe some Su-35s, and work with the koreans to make a stealth plane. We’d also like some C-130s and A-400s, and maybe a Russian type to complete our collection.
But not after we say we’ll buy it but not actually sign it until a decade later.

if it got produced, it probably would be m ore of a rival to later Flanker variants than f-22.
me thinks India, and even Malaysia and Algeria may end up choosing the MiG.
in fact maybe none of the super flanker variants would have gotten so far had there been a clean slate design like this.

Mig-1.42 did not had much stealth feature in terms of planform , How did they plan to compete with F-22 ?

not an f-22 equivalent. more closer to the philosophy and technology level of a eurocanard. and yes, it is a european and a canard aircraft too. literally.
it would likely be cheaper than the f-22, and adopted in far greater numbers by now. if it was adopted, we might not see the advanced fulcrum and flanker variants of today as Russia would have no need for them because of the 1.42.
I also suspect India might have also bought the mig rather than MKI.
