It’s true for the Mirage 2000C/D, but the Mirage 2000-5 are multirole, except for french ones.

    Nic

would you take the M2K5 over the F-16C and MiG-29UPG?

For the 1st time J-10B carrying a dummy YJ-91. Second sequence from an actual test firing (I think?). J-10B/C moving toward being multirole. Previously J-10A was limited to guided and unguided bombs. This is I think the 1st time they’ve released footage of ARM being carried. Now the Question is, can it carry anti-ship missiles such as YJ-91A.

that’s interesting how limited the j-10s are. im starting to think the jf-17 is actually the better overall multi-role aircraft than the J-10A

seems fun but how would one go about evaluating them?

    fuel consumption?
    unit costs?
    life span?
    thrust?

What about the AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo, surely as a twin engine aircraft it would sit within the ‘medium’ category of early 4th generation fighter aircraft? Commercially it was… a disaster, with the initial order being cut down and having no export market, but to be able to produce their own fighter aircraft roughly equivalent to what the US and the Soviet Union was fielding at the time (early block F-16s and MiG-29s) was as big accomplishment.

I like the F-CK-1 (you don’t need to censor the U by the way).
but Arthur said the engine had spooling issues because it is based on civilian airliner engine, not a combat one

secondly, if Taiwan were to export it, how would Mainland China react?

One question to those who may know more regarding Chinese attrition figures

Just how many J-10s have been lost so far? Going by this report by NPR.org quoting the South China Morning Post, there have been a string of J-10 crashes in the last few years

This report indicates that there are 7 known have crashed so far in the past 3 years, from 2014 onwards. How many more happened before that?

yes, wwe had a thread about a hot pilot who died in her j-10. should’ve made it two engined

I am surprised that the FC-31 does not have side weapon bay’s like the J-20, was there any reason given by SAC as to why they did not add side weapon bay’s?

the FC-31 is roughly the size of the F-35 (maybe its a bit longer). the F-35 also doesn’t have side bays, just 2 bays. the X-32 had 2 side bays, but no bottom bay.
I don’t think you’ll find a 2 bay plus 2 side bay combo unless the aircraft is at least the size of the F-22.

Czech pilots having evaluated JAS39 vs M2000-5 vs. F-18 vs. F-16 said something similar.

you got any more info out of the czech evaluation? I think it is the only one that had a combination of all 4 (with mig-29 experience to boot)

The best? Impossible to say without naming criteria, time frame etc.
Most successful? F-16 without any doubt. Over 4500 produced, proved in every conflict it took part in (and there were many). A very good airframe, with great potential for further development (indicated by the steadily growing empty weight), adaptable to every mission, no glaring weaknesses.
The least successful? Unfortunately the MiG-29, which was never used as intended. The fact that in most conflicts it was used in the least capable variant MiG-29B also greatly hampered its reputation (being outnumbered and without any situational awareness did not help as well). The airframe, while certainly very capable, was crippled by the designers’ decision to go with auxiliary intakes, making it extremely short-legged. The collapse of USSR was a tragedy for this plane, if the MiG-29M ever went into serial production during 90′ we would have a completely different conversation..

ok lets say you were a time traveller who had to advise some one who had to make this decision in the late 80s or early 90s, thus no Gripen to choose from.

I remember it also, great and funny read.
In the word of one M2k pilots: that…that things is able to do 9G. While ACCELLERATING!

if French weapons weren’t so expensive, I’d choose M2K 9 out of 10 times.

Most of it is indeed taken from the HAF pilot’s comments on F-16.net forum. However, there was also an article concerning the early exercises in India, during which the dogfight performance of newly delivered MiG-29B was tested against Mirage 2000H. I can’t find it at the moment, but the MiGs came on top. IIRC their main advantage was in TWR and STR, but also their ITR was high enough to survive the beginning of the fight.

I would assume the M2K’s physical performance advantages will be up in higher altitudes as well as supersonic turn rates and the MiG-29 the reverse.
Always fight your enemies on your terms, not theirs.

Actually j-20 is very agile. it has many more lifting and control surfaces than pak-fa
you can see in this picture.
    http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20-13.jpg

the article assumes they have the same rcs and radar range, thats why it will be a dogfight. pakfa- is just a prototype stage, so we won’t know its radar performance. but we can make strong guesses on its power. look at the radome

    now look at J-20
    https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YzQUyxWCFKk/UfM6E72tjxI/AAAAAAAABkQ/ZJPrdBVOHp0/s1600/J-20+front.jpg

Pak-fa is long but very flat. that mean the radome is smaller
look at the j-20. the Radome is huge.
to put it simply, bigger radome fits bigger aesa radar, better range and detection. pak-fa is limited due to size, just like tejas.
j-20 will find the pak-fa first. pak-fa is more comparable to j-31

the reason why Russian planes are so agile is because of design philosophy. Soviet and Russian planes were always behind US and European ones in radar range, accuracy and reliability. So Russia placed more emphasis on dogfighting, with IRST and helmet mounted sight and other stuff. they plan to win in there.
but most fighting of today and tomorrow will probably be medium and long range. so the tvc of pak-fa is not as special. that is why US and China stopped with tvc and why the US 6th gen fighter are all interceptors.

    lol big nose..

wasn’t there some one else in this forum who also always went off about big nose?

And C-2 is able to land on a CBR6??? No tactical capailities… in terms of unprepared/harsh ground, C-160>A-400>C-130>>>C-2

Which conceptual errors? Precise please, i’ll be happy to have a good laugh. About quality issues, they’re fixed faster than another program i know…

fixed faster? A-400 has been flying for years now and it still has problems and its expensive.
you can argue all you want in the a-400 vs c-2 thread instead of the news one.

I forgot where I read it, but it went something along the lines that the Mirage 2000, against the F-16 and Mig-29, could not be beaten in its first turn, but it only had that first turn. afterwards the advantage shifted to the other two.

Surrealistic quotation. 400M$ of aircraft to ferry only 20t…

A400 customers should’ve bought the C-2. same size, better radius.
