J-20 having more control and lifting surface compared to its size? Where do you get that from?

Complete nonsense. Soviet air defense relied primarily on the MiG-31 which has had greater radar range, accuracy and reliability than anything else in existence at that time and has been specially focused on look-down interception of targets against ground clutter.

if the F-14 gets criticized for its AWG-9 and Phoenix combo against fighter sized targets, what makes the MiG-31 and R-33 combo any better?

not to mention lift, if you look at the pak-fa, it looks like its a wing with a couple of semi-recessed engines attached under it,
i dont think anything can turn better at altitude

pak-fa looks good from most angles, but from the top, it really does look like a pancake wing

This bugged me a bit so investigated further:

    Seahawk Puma Mi-17

    cabin volume
    396cf 474cf 812cf

    cabin length
    12.6ft 22.3ft 20.9ft

    cabin width
    7ft 5.4ft 7.7ft

I was wrong – somehow I remember Blackhawk to be bigger in size than a Puma. I see Pumas often and have seen Mi-8 often in the past. Blackhawks only a few times at airshows.

your numbers are problematic because they are totally off, look at the middle one with the bottom one, huge difference
second some are not even in the same unit. if you’re going to compare them, make it the same.
finally, I’ve a feeling you took those numbers from that axl site, which is has bad info.

However if you google it, Foxglove is far more used, but Flatpack usually goes back to the same source, which is Ken.

Supposedly the first Mi-35M for Pakistan, they ordered 4.

    http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/bmpd/38024980/3694488/3694488_original.jpg

it goes to show that if given the choice,
    Pakistan would much prefer mi-35s, mig-29s, flankers, and t-90s over z-10s, jf-17, j-10s, and mbt-2000s

    don’t shoot the messenger

    http://www.janes.com/article/65276/airshow-china-2016-j-20-cameo-generates-more-questions-than-answers

This has generated a number of questions as to why the aircraft made a rather timid cameo appearance at China’s one and only national air show.

“Lack of experience with the aircraft and therefore concern about a mishap cannot be considered a valid reason,” said a Russian aerospace executive at the show.

It lacked the conventional vertical tail and had to rely heavily on 3D-TVC. The USN supposedly had said “**** no!”

the final version (before losing) had a conventional tail http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/fighter/jsf/jast_mdd_bae_01.jpg

but the spiritual sucessor, the x-36 has no tail at all

would’ve loved to see this into a full fighter

    Hi All,
EAP all the way for me looks a lot better than the Typhoon that we have now, didn’t the pilot say after the 1st flight it was an excellent aircraft ?

Honestly not only that, but quite possibly, it would’ve been further developed by now as the UK and BAe wouldn’t have to deal with all the needs and demands of Germany. They’d have full control over it and we wouldnt be in this situation today.

LOL 😀 now the twin engine fighters could come back in the game ?

The RFI & RFP have not even been sent that this new tender is at high risk of derailing already…I find incredible that lessons from MMRCA tender havn’t been learnt. If it is about twin engine fighters that would be pure delirium if they ago for the SH after buying and investing on the rafale. But given Indian procurement track record I would not be that surprised after all.

if they are issuing a tender for twin engined fighters..
then there was something seriously wrong in the Rafale or Su-30 contract or capability

I grew up on the standardised* reporting names so that’s what I prefer

To the extent that I tend to zone out when reading the (quite legitimate and nothing wrong with them at all) local names

*I never knew that they weren’t NATO reporting names, so something new learned today

yes, they are still issuing nato reporting names to new aircraft

    su-34 = fullback
    mig1.44 = fox glove
    su-37 = firkin
    t-50 = flyhalf

The Mirage 4000 would have been a superb aircraft aircraft. Mirage 4000N would have been a superb deep strike fighter & the 4000-5 a superb multi role fighter.

F23 would have been great too.

    Nic

    Mirage 4000 or Rafale.
you can only choose one, which would you choose?
