No need to regret, they have made it to perfection with the 2000 series. IAI don’t make the Mirage III because it is so good today but because they got nothing better to offer.

(Anyway, I still think Dassault should have kept the 2000 line intact alongside Rafales)

me too.. like this mirage 2000 with aesa

Brazil is interested in the PAK FA, maybe to complement the eventual winner of the FX competition in a high/low mix.

if China also signs on for the aircraft then it’ll truly be the BRIC fighter

Where do you get your figures? According to the official budget, 6% of state spending went on subsidies other than petroleum, mostly for food. Just over 10% of imports are under the heading ‘agricultural products’, & 4% ‘food industries’. The value of exports in these categories is a bit over half the value of imports.

Food consumption per head is so far above starvation level that obesity is a major health problem. The majority of Egyptians are overweight, as any visitor to the country can see. They weren’t slim when I first visited in 1989, & they’re bloody fat now.

I guess that means the Egyptians won’t be buying T-90s from the Russians.. they might be too fat to fit inside these tiny tanks.

Is still better then F-16 block 15 OCU MLU or F-16 block 25 MLU (CUPID/Combat Upgrades Plan Integrations Details) that are and will be the back bone of Indonesian AF up to 2020+. Even with that singgle engine configuration, that KFX will provide valuable learning curve for Indonesian.

Besides that single engine design is more realistic on getting the project within the plan budget and targeted price range.

since the project isn’t very far a long yet,
Indonesia could work with other partners such as Turkey or India which is seeking to field heavier options.

With IAI saying they can deliver 50 Kfir block 60 air-frames at around 20 million US each who would buy them and how will this affect sales of Gripen and JF-17 and FA-50

For me the likes of Sri-Lanka might take up to 12 but who else?

does IAI still produce new Kfirs or is that the price of just the upgrades?

Is it possible that the Russians may have sold them the technical design data of the Mig 1.44 ? We know that the J-10 bears a strong Lavi influences, the Z-10 received design help from Kamov. Could the J-20 design have some Russian influence ?

about as likely as the mig-25 and f-15 being related.

No. Regardless of configuration KF-X will accrue valuable industrial benefits to Indonesia, and the aircraft will offer a modern, affordable complement to future high-end platforms such as T-50 — certainly far moreso than the likely alternative of more, increasingly rickety F-16s.

Indeed, Indonesia would probably prefer a config like that depicted above (F100/110 propulsion one assumes) to a heavier platform in the class of F-35.

you guys can go with Turkey’s program instead

TAI probably doesn’t face the same level of political pressure from the US as S.Korea does

bunch of random news coming out of Turkey again

    http://www.todayszaman.com/news-330690-us-rushes-to-sweeten-missile-deal-with-turkey-against-chinese-offer.html

    basically says:
    1. US not happy about deal with China, will try to re-negotiate. NATO also not happy
    2. Turkey saying they choose China but will be willing to re-negotiate
    3. Rankings show 1. Chinese system, 2. Eurosam, 3. Patriot, (Russia’s entry eliminated all together)
    4. Turkey opted for the Chinese system due to price, tech transfer. its all business

will Turkey go Brasilian on us and go on eternal tender process?

    question for swexy swerve.

if people are saying the role of WVR declining and BVR increasing
then would it still give the MiG-31 an advantage since it’ll have the speed, range, and radar range to dictate BVR engagements (to enter or leave it)
against a more nimble fighter which may never enter WVR?

    Liaoning.
bigger ship, more crap it can carry.. nuff said.

I also expect the PLAN to plan a good carrier fleet to go with the Liaoning.
Eventually the PLAN will also plan to field a stealth fighter thats in the PLANning stages.

IN has more carrier experiences for sure and I think the MiG-29K looks better than the Su-33 variant China is illegally producing
but at the end of the day the Liaoning has far more potential and flexibility than the Vikky.

    KAI Proposes Smaller KF-X Design

    lol reality hit them hard.
it’ll end up basically being a stealthified F-16.
