    LOL, JSR going on about the Il-476. It’s a lemon – accept it. To the Russian aerospace industry it’s what the ARJ-21 is to China’s: a complete disaster that burned huge amounts of money (which Russia, unlike China, cannot afford however – thus starving other, more promising projects). And it was so easy to predict, too (at least if you’re not a keypub user starting with J and ending on R).

    ARJ-21 is based on 90% imported parts. and have less range, life span and efficiency than competitors. Don’t even compare it to IL-476 project.

    LOL…oh…no money for ‘newer Imported’ egines… some troll became the fool(or always is? lol)…

    I think the choice has been made and it was well explained here…D30/WS18 is just the interim/back-up, WS20 is the key…
    there is no need at all to import few so called New engine wasting money on building up the new logistic and support system … D30/WS-18 has already the quantity and complete/mature system supporting]
    This word interim is joke. it takes decade to design an aircraft that has very high life span with loads around the engines. how do you know its few engines?

    BTW, just 2 weeks ago… China Aero-Engine Group was officially formed integrating the engine related resources of ACIC , COMAC and other correlative corporation. it has been the 12th Defence Group of China…it is located in Beijing with 141 billion RMB investment+allocate funds (20+ billion dollors)

    it was said ‘Rome was not built in a day’ … but we can say the dawn is about to appear after decades investment/hard-working..

    $20b is nothing. if you don’t put time line of spending and if they are spending it in east coast china and Beijing. this more real estate investment than actual engines.

    D-30KP series engine are high thrust engines that for transportation aircraft, the D-30KP-2 and D-30KP-3 engines are primarily designed and developed by the Russian NPO Saturn design bureau, both are one of the most successful aviation product in the Russian aviation history.

    Due to the technical complexity involving the leap from D-30KP-2 to D-30KP-4 engines, the development is divided in two 2 phases:

    Phase 1: Upgrade D-30KP-2 to D-30KP-3. [ Take-off thrust increase from 12000kgf to 13000kgf ]
    Phase 2: Upgrade D-30KP-3 to D-30KP-4. [ Take-off thrust increase from 13000kgf to 14000kgf ]

    All the upgrading process will be carried out based on the existing D-30KP-2 engines during its overhaul session, without altering the engines’ original configurations or conducting any major engine dis-assembly

    For the 4th generation of D-30KP series, the D-30KP-4 engine, on 8th September 2015, the holding company HK Dong Fang Energy Co. Ltd and NPO Saturn Engine Design Bureau has entered into an agreement on aviation engine upgrading development project, the joint development of the D-30KP-4 engine between Chinese and Russian authorities will commence soon and its serial production will be held in mainland China

    Hmmm …. that might be in the way it is manufactured, but the external lines, its technology the airfoil of its wings and everything else is still the same and as such limited …

    external lines does not tell the material and manufacturing technology and lifespan/weight of aircraft. not to mentiona glass cockpit and fligh controls. try put F-16E engines and loads into F-16A airframe.

    By the way, an aircraft with a wider fuselage has not necessarily to be more draggy and as such has “practically zero operational value”; just look at the C-17.

    The engine issue is surely a major weak point, but as explained only an interim issue.

    wider fuselage on medium size aircraft has proven to be failure. they simply don’t have the range. that’s why you see Volga Denpr and An-124 in various low intensity conflicts.
    IL-476 is proven success as it is basis of A-100 and IL-478. In high intensity conflict in desert you need to directly transport water and fuel to makeshift aircrafields. where choppers are operating round the clock.

    thank you for the pictures. it seems they went back to the dark green instead of the grey they were using. i wonder why?

    i also wonder why fanboys who frequent the russian threads are trolling here. you don’t see chinese posters causing problems in russian threads. there shouldn’t be any butthurt over the y-20. they have their il-76 upgrades, china has its y-20. both sides are happy. end of story.

    You made this statement now complaining. seems China does not have money to import newer engines for Y-20.

    China is not going to waste its time trying to make upgraded Il-76 or stealthy flankers as part of its modernization

    IL-476 is not modernization but completely new plane. . It is digitally created in new factory with airframe life far exceeds the previous generations. In order for aircraft to be multifunctional you cant make it too wide/ slow or overweight.

    J-20 and Y-20 development is prioritized and their development time frame is normal. It took slightly over 3 years for the C-17 and the Y-20 is about 3 years as well.
    China is not going to waste its time trying to make upgraded Il-76 or stealthy flankers as part of its modernization. Its not a bad approach for countries with limited budgets, but China is going its own path.

    China is already wasting time and money by putting 40 years old engines on oversize draggier airframe that has practically zero operational value. limited payload to shorter distance with slower speed. with no possibliyt of putting 11m AESA antenna or long range multifunctional Air-refuller. This J-20 is even more doubtfull. small wings on long airframe like SU-15.

    OK, you do realize that the links I posted point to over 30 years of research into nozzle design. The F-22 nozzle came out of research from the early 80’s, the F-35 nozzle out of research from the 90’s. In essence, based on technology at the time, they could not make a symmetric nozzle with the requirements of the ATF. The LOAN nozzle was not even the original design for JAST or the JSF project. The original nozzle was a SERN nozzle like the YF-23, so your points are not only invalid, they show you did not read the background. IR reduction was not an add on, it was a requirement for the F-35 nozzle before the F-35 even existed. So no, again, there is a failure on your part to comprehend that what you want to see and what the research suggests are two very different things.

    The F-35 does have significant IR reduction methods, and those investments were made years before the JSF project really became the F-35. As to the extent of the success? That is obviously classified. Why? Stealth shaping is widely known, as are materials, but exact composition, and more importantly manufacturing methods, are deeply classified. What have hackers from **** tried to steal? The shaping of the F-35 or B-2? No, concerted efforts have been made to steal information on the nozzle and IR reduction methods, that alone should tell you that your conclusions might need rethinking. There has been considerable (30+) years of research into IR reduction in US LO aircraft. My suggestion? Go to the Pak-Fa thread and take a long hard look at the current state of IR suppression in non-western designs.

    Did you happen to see the Tu-160 footage from Colombia’s Kfir fighters? Imperfect combustion is a b8tch for IR and a trademark of Russian Turbofans.

    Tu-160 is 1960s tech implemented in 1980s. Your never going to win against latest noise and IR detection technologies with engine development.

    Contracts with Indian DOD and HAL was not signed in 2015;

    Engine replacement for AN-124 with NK-23D which is an engine based on NK-32 engine core with the same thrust as D-18T.

    if I translate correctly. it mean discussion regarding funding/contract cost with India. not the actual contract.

    discussions re. this and Indian funding/contract cost took place in 2015.

    The expected response. You are just as predictable as…

    T-50 expect to have more than twice the supersonic range and many times missile/sensor reach of Flanker. this creates very favorable conditions for investment on top of that favorable climatic condition. I fully expect T-50 production to outstrip all Flanker/Fulcrum production combined.

    In a “major war” sticking on the exterior of a 5º generation jet an awfull lot of iron bombs its the finest way of getting your most advanced (and expensive) aerial asset getting blown up to pieces. I was astounded to see that particular photo.

    5G sensors should allow it to guide hypersonic weopons on airfields and air defence systems so that it flys unchallenged for dropping bombs.

    I’m just about to head off to Eurosatory, so must be brief.

    There is no way that the precision of a ‘dumb’ bomb can be “just slightly worse” than that of a guided munition. Once an unguided bomb or rocket is released, its accuracy of its impact point is degraded by factors such as the inevitable aiming errors, any unpredictable velocity increment created by the release process and the airflow around the weapon at the moment of separation, the variations in weapon weight, balance and drag created during manufacturing, and local wind conditions.

    Press reports about the alleged capabilities of the SVP-24 must have caused some amusement to persons around the world who are engaged in interdiction and close-support tasks.

    These pilots are trained on most advanced simulators that take into account all these conditions that’s why the sorties rates are now approaching 13000 with about 50k bombs dropped with tremendous accuracy.

    Which demonstrates the lack of appropriate stocks of PGMs and the fact that the Russians don’t really care about precision and avoiding collateral damage. The evident lack of proper targeting systems apart.

    There is no intelligent argument that could seriously justify such a move, unless you don’t trust your PGMs/targeting systems, you have a real shortage of these and in addition no other platforms to deliver them. The Russians won’t rely on the T-50 alone as their sole tactical combat aircraft, even if they wanted it, they can’t afford it. Spare in JSR’s wet Russia strong dreams perhaps.

    Russia can certainly afford several thousands T-50. Currently all three Sukhois factories in operations along with MIG factory. Ruaf bombing already very accurate. Not many instance of friendly fire despite bombing from high altitude. PGMs only necessary to avoid Sam envelope.
