    mine is more reality. why waste money on aircraft carrier conversion when every thing else is short range.
    as i said J-20/J-31 are very low bar for in context of 5G fighters and still progress is way slow.
    Y-20 will be another failure. low volume and short range.

    have you looked at there previous gunship chopper competition where light and medium weight helicopters competing against each other. so even if some SAM system has 200km range and another has 100km. both will meet requirements as there is no such thing as requirements and every one knows decision is in hand of one person. just look at the name

    Let’s try to not pretend that the PLAAF is so incompetent it doesn’t know how to define key requirements, and the engineers at CAC are so incompetent they can’t come up with a design that can deliver. This isn’t some kiddy cartoon.

    I think your giving them too much credit. Look at history.
    L-15. (trying to create twin engine supersonic trainer. without regard to internal fuel and weight penalty)
    J-10. (Practically huge plane for single engine with no prospect for Carrier version. Not even CFT. always carry external tanks. that is itself drag penalty).
    FC-1. (Another import depended redundant project. very low volume per year production with little export prospects)
    JH-7. (another huge plane with little internal fuel capacity and obsolete engines that are not shared across platforms).

    Now this J-20 is cross between MIG-1.42/J-10. It is 20th century project. It does not even have TVC or Carrier version and still progress is extremely slow. J-31 heavier stealth fighter in medium size body. recipe for failure.

    It is not very effective airforce in making that can carry long range missions efficiently nor there is any version of planes that are in development that have enlarge comfortable cockpit that can carry CFT or extra large ETs.

    But even if I agree with You that the J-20 will never be exported Your opinion in regard to its operational quality or beauty don’t count … necessary is what the PLAAF thinks about that type regardless the taste of anyone here in any forum.

    Deino

    is J-20 flown in operational sqd by PLAAF. what if they discover that this thing is too heavy/draggy with short range. are they going to order alot of air refuelelrs.

    No. In fact with 50% fuel, Su-27/35 has inferior acceleration to most aircraft types. However when fuelled for equal range its quite possible.

    However, if we are talking about precise validity of the graph, none of these numbers are factually correct. Here are some numbers from their respective flight manuals:

    F-16: M0,8 to M1,2 -> 34 seconds; time to M1.6 (from M0,8) -> 69 seconds; top speed = M1,91 (which looks correct in the graph)
    MiG-29: M0,8 to M1,2 -> 42 seconds; time to M1,6 -> 68 seconds; top speed = M2,25
    F/A-18C (with 2x AIM-9+2xAIM-7): M0,8 to M1,2 -> 48 seconds; top speed M1,51
    F-5E: M0,8 to 1,2 -> 84 seconds; top speed M1,45 (looks correct)

    To add some other known aircraft to these;

    F-15E (PW-229, with 4x AIM-7): M0,8 to M1,2 -> 36 seconds; time to M1,6 -> 66 seconds; top speed = M2,1
    Su-27S: M0,8 to M1,2 -> 50 seconds; time to M1,6 -> 83 seconds; top speed = ??
    MiG-23ML M0,8 to M1,2 -> 48 seconds; time to M1,6 -> 75 seconds; top speed = M1,8
    F/A-18E (with 2x AIM-9+2xAIM-7): M0,8 to M1,2 ->~54 seconds top speed = M1,46

    As for Su-35; it has same aerodynamics as Su-27, and due to increased fuel capacity, it has same (or similar) T/W with Su-27 at 50% fuel load, so I expect same acceleration from it.

    As for F-22, It has same T/W as F-15E and similar aerodynamic layout. Sure it does have some aerodynamic improvements, but it also lacks variable ramps so, IMHO, those values are greatly exeggerated and F-22 fall very close to F-15/16 and may even fall behind them at some speeds.

    As for F-35, altough fat and underpowered, its roughly comperable to F-18E in acceleration, so I find 57 second estimate (M0,8 to M1,2) to be valid. However, none of the other aircraft performs as good as the graph claims.

    Su-35 at height of 200m from 600km/hr to 1100km/hr in 13.8 seconds with 50% internal fuel. offcourse it will takeoff with lot more fuel as takeoff consumes alot of fuel. Also Su-35 has lot shorter takeoff run.

    Hi,

    What is this $700b procurement? Who is procuring what?

    Actually its $755b for Russia procurement until 2020. Oil/Gas production in Iraq/Iran can be quickly enhanced. thats excluding Arctic. world will not need Persian gulf arabs.

    http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2013/06/russia-rejects-presence-of-arab-countries-in-iran-p51-talks-2686438.html
    Russia rejects presence of Arab countries in Iran-P5+1 talks

    Obama is slowly understanding this point so some compromise is possible sooner. because once Russia goes through with its procurement plan than bargaining will become too hard.
    World in 2020 will be different place. I even forecast most of EU fighter factories will be closed by that time as without Persian gulf money survival is hardly possible. so how is EU going to sell to Iran in 2020.

    What’s that got to do with Russia selling Pak Fas, S300s and Yasens to Iran?

    did i mentioned these things are to be exported?. there no equivalent systems to it in EU/China anyway. so even 2nd tiers Russian systems like Su-35 are sufficient. but the key point is $700b procurement.

    Syria is an old Russian/Soviet ally plus the Russians are using them in their great game of diplomacy against the US.

    That they are Iran’s ally is probably inconsequential to Russia in this instance.

    old style ally that cannot pay for anything. without joint coordination and intelligence it was nearly impossible to contain the insurgency. It has nothing to do with diplomacy games.
    The point is $700b procurement & alternative source of energy/routes gives Russia bargaining power with US for WMD free middleast. EU/China simply dont have that bargaining power. They are overpopulated relative to land area.

    without US nuke umberrella for Middleast. things are going to be very hot in that region.

    Sorry but I have no idea what you’re talking about – I don’t understand what Russian ships crossing Dardanelles has to do with reequipping IRIAF or what $700b procurement even means.

    Syria and its Labnese allies are very central to Iran. and you dont see the connection?. and after that Iraq comes.

    http://www.tandempost.com/TPnews/1714-politics/russia-to-continue-military-technical-cooperation-
    Tehran and Moscow had agreed in June to establish a joint intelligence team to exchange information and plan joint operations.

    Caspian is good to reinforce with some thing. Dispute is fine as currently new supplies in oil/gas will lower the prices.
    Europe/China are very far away from this bargaining and practically nothing to offer.

    I think the key is that Iran has to reemphasis it’s conventional defence forces again, as opposed to whatever it spends money on (nuclear, missiles etc).
    To be honest I can see rebuilding Iranian conventional capability to balance things in the Gulf – the Persian Gulf states are awash with cash and starting to look further afield (e.g. Libya and Syria). In both instances their interventions have been as destructive and disruptive as any US ones (e.g. funnelling foreign Al Qaeda based militants into the mix).

    Again inaccurate assumptions. Persian Gulf is not as awash with cash as you think. They need cash to bribe there own people. They need cash for imported labor, equipment and food. and certainly some cash to distribute to influence some bankrupt countries. very less money for procurement and training. even the newer jets in Saudi and UAE airforce frequently crashes. procurement is slow to materialize.

    Resurgent conventional Iran would help temper this by refocusing Gulf States back to homeland defence.

    The point is Iranian oil industry resurgence will provide alternative Oil to the world.

    I don’t see the Russians coming to the rearmament party though due to potential problems it could cause the Russians in the Caspian.

    There is hardly any problem there. infact there is more supply route coming.
    http://arka.am/en/news/economy/vinokurov_exit_from_transport_blockade_to_bring_economic_breakthrough_to_armenia/

    The Chinese and European losers of Gulf procurements on the other hand probably would chip in if the dollars were there.

    how much value contracts awarded to EU defence firms in Iraq after 2011 US pullout?
    Even Syria (much lesser power) has low opinion about EU as Obama is going to sidelined them in bargaining.

    Russian warships cross Turkish straits 62 times

    Iran by this time knows that there is $700b procurement in Russia. and there is no such procurement in EU/China there is no political will in EU/China to go all the way against Arabs/Israel etc.

    Acutally Chinese system has very poor specifications. it is not long range system like S-300PMU2 or S-300V4.

    Price was also reduced.

    http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130926/DEFREG03/309260012/Chinese-Firm-Wins-Big-Turkish-Air-Defense-Deal
    The decision to acquire the system, dubbed T-Loramids, from the Chinese contender was made at a Thursday meeting of the Defense Industry Executive Committee, which oversees major procurement decisions and is chaired by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The contract was initially expected to be worth $4 billion, but one procurement official said the Chinese manufacturer had reduced its proposal to around $3 billion.

    but the biggest factor is decision by Erdogan. This guy has very poor insights

    This same person who didnot chose Ka-52 Erdogan chopper on time and later asking US for quick delivery of gunships.

    see his visit to Argentina for Olympic where he got half the votes what he was expecting or his decisions about Syria.

    I think by 2020 Iran would still be flying F-4s and F14 aging birds. It is not a matter of money they have money to throw around but the thing is they have no supplier, who is willing to sell to Iran? Not the US. Not Europe. Russia and China wouldn’t either due to the risk of International sanctions by Sam, the Civil Aviation industry cooperation with Western nations is worth billions more than selling Iran a few fighters for chump change.

    Civil Industry cooperation in Year 2020? China may need it but not Russia. Russia can block all Arabian airlines (EADS/Boeing customers) crossing CIS airspace thats why UAE is still investing in Russia & Lukoil digging gas in Saudi. Russia is key supplier in titanium supply chain.I agree is not money. but to create Iran and its allies as central & imposing powers in Middleast so Arabs keep fighting them instead of exporting idealogy outside. but incase sanctions on Iran lifted. Oil production can quickly increase that will lead to lower prices.

    This interesting claim. increasing range by several times without introducing AESA.

    No, China needs Iran’s oil and Gas.

    China has rejected the imposition of an arms embargo.

    There are plenty of countries around China with Oil & Gas. Iran is hardly in unique position. infact Iraq has become second largest OPEC exporter and soon to become largest. Kazakistan has opened world largest new Oil field.

    China not imposing arms embargo has little practical relevance. as Iran simply not interested in second rate stuff nor China can use its muscle against Arabs/Israel/Turks for Iran & it allies benefit.

    Iran has benefited enormoulsy from limited quantity order S-300PMU-1 cancelation by Russia. that S-300PMU-1 is already obsolete and out of production.
    what is going to happen is as Almaz-Antei new factories comes online and surplus production is created Russia is going to again offer new weopon systems. Putin has already raised Israel nukes issue at Valdai club.

    so expect new round of bargaining. Either West slows its support to Arabs/Turks/Israel or Russia is going to supply more advance weopons to Iran. and resulting tensions will ensure Russia profits.

    The above news not reliable as S400 export ban so highly unlikely to be tested for foreign buyers as there is no export version developed yet. than there is production capacity limitations untill new factories comes online.

    At least the US and co will be able to have a look to see what makes HQ-9s tick.

    It’s an interesting choice though.

    Are Turkish HQ-9s different to Chinese ones? Selling one of your main AD systems to a country in a strong alliance with your main enemy seems like a risky proposition unless it’s a downgraded system.

    And even if downgraded, you’re still giving a lot away in terms of intel.

    Again defying logic. who has more money China or Turkey?. who will be willing to sell vast amount of training and technology for right price consider the dysfunctional nature of society. It will take couple of years for Turkey to get technology and by that time China would have penetrated much more into Turkish industry and military and learn about NATO. for same reason Russia was in this tender but there prices too high. or they already figure out the people in Turkey so no point in selling the system after long process.

    This more desperation deal of failure in Syria.
