Based on Your ridiculous way of comparision, Egypts potential is 522 times that of Israel.
    Egypt still is beaten.
I guess You compute combat effectiveness in the same manner,
Maybe it is not a coincidence that Sweden has conquered Moscow,
but Russia has not conquered Stockholm, LOL.

That was US fighting Egypt. In 60s US has tremendous technical edge both in equipment and training. Finland import dependent GDP is practically zero . Russia can easily establish fire control over it’s trade.

MOD will get 12 Ka-52s this year. It received 14 in 2016 according to plan, and an additional 2 ahead of schedule.

Shoigu says “new long range missile” will finally enter service this year. Likely, talking about the 40N6….

He is mostly likely talking about long range anti air missiles for naval vessels as most of tests are done in Baltic and North Sea. S300V4 already 400km.

In both of my posts, I expressed doubt that the report is accurate. That was why I included couching terms such as: “unconfirmed” and “alleged”. There is still the possibility that the French journalist who claims to have received the information from Israeli officers is telling the truth. There is also the issue of Syrian news reporting that it was an air strike, only to then report that it was a “missile attack”. The video sounds as if Jets were passing overhead.

Possibly, there will be more information released, or this will pass as rumor. If it were reported that U.S. F-35’s were used, I would be 100% in agreement it was baseless . The Israeli’s do things their own way.

My follow up post was reflective of your one sided skepticism. As I said, your reaction was entirely amusing and predictable.

you shoudnt rely on french for syrian reports. plus news that are released from official source there are tightly control by Russian. Natinyahoo knows that Russian can easily turn against him. he has to keeep visiting Moscow regularly and Russia show to Middleast that he is visiting.

? Really? yours amuses me, too :highly_amused:

    Long story short, Russia won.

They did give permission for many reasons but these are the main ones:

    1) Increase the wedge between US and Turkey.

    2) Got the biggest prize of whole Syrian war, Aleppo, easier.

    3) Made Turkey accept the rule of Assad.

What else do you want from Russian’s perspective?? Russia got everything they wanted. This is not a deal between equals.

    What did Turkey get?

Isolation of a tiny Kurdish canton in North West of Syria. What is the strategic or even tactical value of that? Kurds already almost reached the maximum they could have achieved anyway. Also even the isolation of that little canton is no more because Assad can bridge it with the rest of Kurdish regions and Syria anyway…

I am serious what did Turkey get with all this Syria charade? 2 million refugees? A Kurdish entity that is supported by both Russia and USA?

Turkey didnot achieve anything except few people line up pockets. That Aleppo surrender instead of slaughter was face saving measure as Russia was negotiating with Qatari investment fund and Glencore. Russia do time to time olive branch to Arab and Israelis but over all trajectory and decision making they have no influence on it.

So did Russians “gave permission” solely because of their love to Turkish side and their FSA allies? That FSA/TSK gaining territory somewhat benefited Russia or Assad in a ways I can’t see? Or they gave permission because they had no choice? Unlike JSR’s garbage this kind of thoughtless nationalistic posts amuse me..

Turkey was invited to show to Arab world that Turkey is fighting sunni Arabs not Iran or Israel. As a side effect it’s poor performance at Albab further discredit the system of fighting war . Now Russia publicly and forcefully blocking Turkey. This also to demonstrate to Arab that only Russia alone decide in Syria. There is no scope for middlemen.

    Clap, clap, clap… very classy.

ps – There´s no more Soviet Union or Russian Empire, get over it

You are getting ahead with your proclaimatioms. Currently share of modern weopons is about 50℅ in Russian armed forces and it with current procurement pace it will reach to 100℅ im next 4 years. Once we it reach that goal than we can talk about modern Russian empire of 21st century.

Russia does not take ideological stands on foreign relations and trade. I am not saying that Israel coerced Russia into not selling Iran the 400. Israel and Russia probably made a win-win deal. Ie Russia was incentivized to a deal with Israel as long as they don’t sell Iran the 400.

the point I am making is that Israel does not have the same worth to change Russia export policies. It is taking 5 years for China to get S400 who are well experienced in S300 systems.

Right. Iran and Russia have the same goals in Syria and the so they are cooperating intensely. But that does not mean that Russia and Iran are tied at the hip ideologically like the US is with its Gulf allies. That is not the case. Russia and Iran have an intensely pragmatic relationship. Russia and Israel also have an intensely pragmatic relationship.

It is not just same goal in Syria but impose higher oil/gas prices on rest of the world. for that its necessary that Iran keep fighting the Saudis everywhere so that Saudi budget deficits keep exploding. Israel cant fight ISSI/Nusra or Saudi or Turkey. and it is not just related to Israel but Jews living in western world needs that Saudi support.

Israel may have made a deal with Russia to sell the 300 to Iran rather than the vaunted 400. Israel and Russia are big trade partners.

Israel is not big trade partner and certainly replaceable. Middleastern countries buying $10b worth of UCAVs from China and Saudi king spending whole month in East Asia. Russian troops are now embedded with Iranian militias and they are wearing there patches. it very clear message. there is very little confidence in Israel anti-terror ability. look at Sinai plane crash. Israel suppose to know every thing around there.

Iran/Rus relations as it pertains to cooperation is not exactly swell right now. Russia was burned when Iran made those deals with Boeing. Obv Russia expected to sell some Sukhoi Superjets. Plus Iran had a hissy fit when Rus made it public that they were using their air strip.

Those Airbus/Boeing are loan deals than trade deals. Russia still putting a lot pressure on wealthy Arabs to squeeze money out of them. I wouldn’t put past that airbase is in use.
They are nofiying those in Middleast that buying Boeing/Airbus is like doing business with Russia. Rostec will have $1.5b profit. that’s a lot of profit for manufacturing firm that is supplier.

    http://www.thenational.ae/business/economy/sergey-chemezov-has-big-ambitions-for-russias-rostec#page2
He also emphasises the commercial ties with major US corporations such as Boeing, a big buyer of Russian titanium – used extensively in the Dreamliner aircraft.
“We produce one third of total production of titanium in the world,” he says.
“If they say tomorrow, sorry we are not buying anything from you, that would mean the closure of Boeing and Airbus. I am just mentioning the majors here but of course there are many more minor companies.”

Concessions. Funny. Paralay, JSR, there is no thing such as “russophobia” there is just russo idon’t the **** care about thirld world countries.

Yup its concessions but more likely submission.. When it comes to Serbia/Kosov/Baltic/Irak/Libya/Syria where Russian interests are under attack Germany keeps head down but when it comes to Ukraine Germany want to become leader of EU.
Its not Russia want to direct confrontation with Germany at this point but more likely impose such global order that will keep Germany down and Europe relatively disarmed/ fully depended.

Good to see the S-300s in action. But Russia need to stop acting completely dumb and think first and foremost of generating revenues and Iran will make a good customer as they are in need of an entire spectrum of weapons/systems.

Other than the few limited S-300, there is a whole lot of stuff that Iran might need and require, like

    Buk-M2E/M3
    Mi-35M/Mi-28
    MiG-29SMT package
New MiG-29/35 class (keep aside those Sukhoi’s)
    A-50
    Tu-204 based MPA/SIGINT/etc
    IL-78/76
    Bal coastal system
T-90 (1,000 nos contract was discussed earlier)

    636/677 submarines
    11661 Corvettes
11356 Frigates (close the stupid chapter of selling the unfinished ships to India, check the possibility with Iran.)
    22130 medium replenishment.

    Civilain
Tu-204SM (stupid Russian fanboys believe that Iran has been ungrateful for ordering Boeing and Airbus after lifting of the sanctions. But did Russia even promote/offer the Tu-204SM/family other than the so-called all-in-one solution of Sukhoi SSJ to the Iranians?)
IL-96-400M (make them pre-order the aircraft and use the funds in developing the aircraft.)

These are some of the items that come to mind now…these will run into multi-billion dollars and stretched over atleast a decade. What Russia needs is market for their military wares and the need is to work in that direction.

Russia still only 60% modernized its conventional systems. Export is more like favor to other countries at this point. Just putting 200 combat aircraft in Syria will greatly increase investment potential. first thing is to increase greatly the combat potential in Syria and fully join stirkes inside Irak.

There are various agreements in place related to Almaz Antei products.

The only way that Finland would join NATO is if it feels so threatned by its Eastern neighbour that the majority of its population would agree with it, if that happens, well Russia can only blame itself.

Nato like EU is organization of free loaders. so hence it will attract members.

Look at your posts… Loved the bit about “military resolution”…
And while you and the likes of the JSR “Russia Stronq crowd” might not like, Russia wont do nothing against a NATO country except yell a lot and troll the informatic systems of that same country.

Well tell that to Turks on November 24 2016.. Admittely that attack was done in Syria but this the shape of things to come as Russia procurement surges and diversification away from declining Europe.

And for Christ sake, stop with the “NATO agressive bulls####”, the western European countries are spending 1,8% of their GDP in defense, they are not preparing themselves to march over Moscow.

It does not matter whether you spend 1.8% or 100%. it is dysfunctional overpriced labor. it will not be even take into consideration.

It hurts that your old “allies” have decided to pass themselves “en masse” to NATO?

Those were Soviet allies not Russian allies. The definition of Russia ally is very different.

Well sorry about that, but the Poles, the Hungarians, the Checks, etc, didnt particulary liked “Soviet friendship”.

Russia does not care whether they like some or not. Russia scientific and military development is not depended on them. Its Germany that need them to work for there firms. but Germany will have to give very big concessions to Russia for utilizing them.

It’s little different from F-18 acquisition which was done in middle of huge depression, and they’ve had two major upgrades…
Budget’s are not comparable, Finland has real conscription and doesn’t waste that much money on colonial wars like Nato countries etc. do. Also FDF is good at penny-pinching and buys lots of used equipment at bargain prices. For example trainer acquisition – 28 Grobs for 6.6 million euros, the deal was so cheap that manufacturer threw a fit.

you are a lot poor than in 90s. you simply not realizing it. buying few expensive imported weopons sytems that run on imported oil, parts and bombs will further decrease the effectiveness of rest of the armed forces.

i think the electronics and internals of this systems are far newer than late 90s when first time S300PMU2 was advertised for export. they said they have shot down a drone and billistic missiles in the tests.
hitting small drone with large missile not easy.
S300PMU2 from Dubai show Feb 1999.

    https://www.flightglobal.com/FlightPDFArchive/1999/1999%20-%200589.PDF
At the show, Russia was promoting
    its latest air defence equipment,
    including the S-300PMU2 Favorit
    system aimed at improving target
    acquisition and engagement of ballistic
    missiles and expanding the kill
zone from 3 km (2 miles) to 200km

Viipuri was Finnic for at least 800 years and possibly much more.

who said that there were anything there. that area was basically a swamp. Finland defence budget is less than half of Norway and Norway is barely afford procurement at 2 F-35 per year. that’s why i never take anything seriously coming out.

you will lose very badly try to defend Finland with imported weopons that you cannot afford and certainly will not have money for upgrades.
