Irak needs high tech weopons that can negated much larger airforces of Turkey and Middleast. China simply cant provide them.

Hopefully you have more sense than Wilhelm. First off, Russia could theoretically build a carrier roughly the size of Kuznetsov in Russian ports (I exclude Zaliv for a few reasons- including black sea nuke rules). But, the dry dock issue is real. Look into it yourself. There is no place to build a ship the size of the Shtorm projects yet. Currently, the plan is to combine two existing dry docks together at Severnaya Verf. The dry docks are to be upgraded as will the cranes. Unless Russia uses the dated and very time consuming process of building a large carrier from the keel up, you need cranes with a large lifting capacity. I was not able to find a clear timetable of when this modernization was to be completed, the article dated from last year said 2018, but I don’t know if the work started yet.

Sevmash has been mentioned, but Admiral Nakhimov eats up a lot of space and Kuznetsov is due for it’s 2017 refit. I doubt that they would use Zvezda (whenever it is completed 2022-?) as you want to have the facilities near where the ship is based (long way to sail if you have an issue). Even Kuznetzov is a challenge to find a suitable berth for, as for maintenance, the PD-50 floating dry dock was used for last refit.

The other poster starting blabbering nonsense about various shipyards, he was wrong. I was correct about the dimensions of Baltiysky Zavod, not to mention it is a slipway with 80 ton cranes and (Russian officials have stated) 60,000 ton displacement limit {I said 40,000-45,0000 tons I will cop to being off on that}. None of this was to criticize Russia. I was pointing out the potential bottlenecks that need to be worked through before a carrier the size of the Shturm could be built that is all.

One of the big side advantage of all those Middleastern wars for Russia is that it has run down the stocks of Eastern block weopons and ammunition. Ruaf is blasting those ammunition dumps in Syria.
I doubt there is any skilled labor left or investment that will ever compete again with Russian exports to Middleast/Africa.

Well from a recent (last week) Iraqi Finance ministry report to the parliament it has become known that Iraq has cut back massively on Russian arms purchases since last year due to a lack of funds. Russia has not been able to offer financing for Iraq’s weapons requests and so a number of large ticket items are essentially “on hold” (or maybe cancelled in polite speak). These include 24 MiG35, MSTA-S heavy artillery, T90 Tanks, BMP3 IFVs and S300V SAMs. The attack helos and a few radar stations survived the cut back.

Similarly the finance ministry report revealed that the US has given $2.7Bn loan to fund weapons purchases from the US and, more interestingly China has provided a $2.5Bn loan for the purchase of Chinese weapons. China is Iraq’s main oil importer and runs Iraqi oil fields as well as other large infrastructure projects in Iraq (power stations, railways, car factories amongst others) and thus considers its ability to recover the loan to be strong.

This development may open the door for both chinese HQ-9 (in Lieu of russian S300V) as well as J10 (instead of Russian MiG35).

I don’t think it has anything to do with banking loans. Russia is equally or more invested in Iraki and Kurdistan oil like China. things like MIG-35/S300V are highly advanced electronics and as long as coalition is in Irak Russia will be hesitant to supply them. unlike in past Russia does not want to sully its reputation of export weopon systems. Irak will be dealing with Saudi and Turkish airforce and anything less than best of best will not work as Irak cant match them in quantity.

Syria has 3 times larger border with Turkey with 3 times larger hostile population and how many bomb blast happen in Syrians cities once cleaned by Assad? and compare them to Irak in past 5 years. than there is Iran they also have big border with Turkey/Irak and nothing happens to them. that’s why Russia exported S300PMU2 6 month ahead of schedule.
